The 20 Best Things to Do in Bogotá, Colombia (Updated 2025)

"I visited the National Museum of Colombia and found it to be a must for history buffs — it's the oldest and biggest museum in the country (built in 1823), houses over 20,000 pieces and artifacts dating back as far as 10,000 BCE, and the building's former use as a prison gives it an imposing atmosphere." - Matthew Kepnes

Interesting museum with artwork of Colombia and primitive history and tools used by the natives in the past. Last Sunday of every month is free to entry and Wednesday from 3-5pm. Otherwise it’s $10 USD. Takes about 1-2h to see everything inside the museum. 3 floors of artifacts and paintings. Pictures are allowed. Most descriptions are in Spanish with some English words here and there. Staff is friendly and helpful.

A true national museum in every sense. Its exhibitions span vast scales of time and geography. The texts on the walls are beautifully written: thoughtful, elegant, and never pretentious. They match the exhibits perfectly and are worth reading slowly. Each of the three floors has a clear theme, guiding you through different perspectives on life, society, and art. You could easily spend a whole day here and still find more to appreciate.

This museum is very informative and lovely to visit in Bogota to learn about the history of Columbia. The artwork is quite stunning and the design of the entire museum is very educating. Most of the exhibits are both in Spanish and English which is very helpful and the audio guide is worth it.

I was a bit disappointed, charged me the the super expensive tourist price of 30000 cop but hardly anything is translated in English, so what's the point in going to not find anything out about bogota??? Maybe the employees should visit museo del oro, to learn how a world class museum should be presented?

I'm actually giving 3.5 stars, the museum is nice enough, but if you're a Colombian! For foreigners you have to pay $10 which is a bit too much for this museum, if it were $5-6 i'd be pretty staisfied, but considering the local price vs the tourist price, no, if i knew, i wouldn'd enter.

Entrance fee was USD$10 for tourists, cash only, and has to be paid in COP. Nice museum with a lot of artifacts in three stories of a historical building. It was once a prison. Probably need an hour to go through it all

A wonderful museum displaying indigenous, traditional, and modern day art and history for Columbia. Some really fascinating historic pieces. Plan it for a few hrs, cash only for entry and enjoy!
