"Learn about Mexico's Long History of Graphic Arts The building in which you'll find the Museo Nacional de la Estampa (National Graphic Arts Museum) dates back to the 16th century, and—make note—is just a few short steps to a couple of other museums, including the Franz Mayer. This museum, Estampa, showcases the work of graphic artists, an art form that has a long and distinguished history in Mexican visual arts. Exhibits draw from both the museum's own collection of 12,000+ works (among which are not only distinguished Mexican artists, but also such international luminaries as Barbara Kruger and Richard Serra), as well as loaned pieces, and span hundreds of years of history, featuring both centuries-old pieces and cutting-edge, contemporary work."
Superb exhibit by Sergio Sánchez SantaMaria, beautifully mounted. There was also one gallery of work by Mexiac, nicely complementing the exhibit by the same artist down the street at MUNAL. The opportunity to run one's own linoleum print makes the visit an especially meaningful experience. Mexican printing traditions deserve their own museum and this one does those traditions proud. Wonderful!

Small but great museum of printed objects. Caught the tail end of Sergio Sanchez Santamaria's exhibit. Small workshop at the front where you can try your hand at printing.

Visiting this museum was one of the highlights of my trip. The gallery exhibition was great, and even better. There is a workshop area that I highly recommend visiting. In the workshop you can carve your own print or you can press your own from a choice of linoleum cut. As well they have additional prints that you can take with you for free!

An absolutely wonderful museum. Packed with some absolutely exceptional work by three artists I didn't know before I set foot inside. Now I have to track down Mora and Kaminer art books.
Well worth your time.

Great museum with various printmaking techniques featured, and you can participate in making your own linocut as part of their workshops! Go!

Mostly intimate works in a small space. Some nice young ladies explained the various printing techniques and helped me design a bookmark.

Too bad it was closed!

Yelp
Some pretty incredible pieces here! The exhibits were more punk and skater cultures focused while we visited, but the mix of lino cut prints and lino blocks on exhibit was great to see. Unfortunately, the workshop where you can print your own prints closes earlier than the museum, so we weren't able to do that.

Loved the artwork upstairs by Diego and other original artists, many in pencil. Worth a visit!
