Absolutely stunning museum. Large display of antiquities, mostly (but not only) vases, amphorae and other vessels. Highly decorated, beautifully sculpted. Hard to believe some are over 2000 years old. Well worth a visit.

This museum seems to be newly fitted out with no expense spared. It's very modern inside. With a spiral slope to access the upper floors. On the ground floor there is a spacious auditorium where we were lucky enough to sit at midday and listen to a wonderful pianist practicing Beethoven for a forthcoming concert. The museum is full of local finds from the sea, from excavations and from local building works. There are many Greek red-figure vases. The highlight for me was the wonderful bronze statue of a roman emperor found under the sea.

Really enjoyed a leisurely wander round this lovely & tasteful museum. It has the right amount of info & well-spaced & arranged exhibits so it’s not overwhelming at all. It offers fascinating glimpses into the past of this region. I highly recommend a visit here as a change from baroque churches!

Outstanding museum telling the story of 30+ centuries of occupation. Just how!

A hidden gem in Lecce. This museum is FREE! And they have clearly spent a lot of money on it. If you've seen too much baroque decoration, this is the perfect antidote. We spent maybe an hour, and it was time well spent. Lots learnt and loads of discussions sparked. I can't believe it's not more highly rated. Go, you won't be disappointed.

We were the only visitors here the whole time we were there. A little but surprising because it is an interesting museum. Cool modern layout integrated in an old building

Free antique archeological museum, showcasing the Salento region from 1000BCE to now. Highlights are ancient Greek influence, seafaring trade routes/influence. Many important pottery artifacts. depicting both Greek and Roman mythology.

This museum is perfect for you if you like ancient history and ancient archeology. Those topics are not really my thing but I did enjoy a lot these vases and antique objects from the populations that given birth to Salento. It has been interesting for me giving the fact that I normally go to contemporary and modern art museums or natural science, design and technology. So it has been a nice breath of fresh air.
