"Contemporary, Underground Art in a Historic Building The massive building occupied by this museum has a fascinating history. Built in the early 20th century in Germany for an international art and textile fair, the structure represents the "Jugendstil" style, which dates back to the 1850s. It was bought by a Mexican firm in 1902 and shipped to Mexico City , first by boat, and then by train. Since its arrival more than a century ago, it has served numerous functions, including the temporary location of the Museum of Natural History during the country's centennial celebration. Today, the building, which was remodeled between 2006 and 2007, is home to Museo Universitario del Chopo, whose interests and collection depart radically from the traditional. Contemporary, underground works in visual art, literature, and music are all exhibited here, and workshops and special events are held on a regular basis. The museum also has a full calendar of film selections each month."
The museum is perhaps only interesting because of its original iron and glass building is in the Jugendstil-style, which was built for a temporary textile exhibition in Dusseldorf in 1902. The building was then sold, dismantled, transported to Mexico City and reassembled. It hosts temporary exhibitions. The entrance is free.

A incredible museum with a interesting architecture. 30 pesos a regular ticket, 15 for students and Wednesday is free. For the movies is another ticket, 40 general and 20 students with a valid ID. Always a interesting subject and a relevant discution. The coffee shop is delicious and with a good price (coffee for 25, salads between 65 to 80, chocolate croissant 25) . You have one counter inside and another outside (specially pleasant for summer days). With access to wheel chair. If in Mexico, go there!

I went there for a concert. It's a nice little venue. But i wasn't expecting the seats at a rock concert. I understand it's not what the theater is used for usually. It's was nice, great sound and acoustic. I hope to come back for other events.

The design and architecture are the main appeal. The front is currently under renovation so.. staff is friendly.

The multi-level building looks and feels very modern from the inside, however there was only one exhibit open on the day we visited. The photographic exhibition that we did see was interesting. I suspect that it's a great place to spend the day when all the exhibits are open.

Yelp
I found this Museum on the Mexico City obscura website. Why is it not mainstream? This place is awesome. Huge open space with some of the most interesting Modern Art / architecture exhibits you'll find anywhere. When I visited there was an exhibit featuring photographs of every monument in Mexico City.
The building is beautiful inside and out. Go out of your way, although it won't be far out of your way, to see this Museum. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Really beautiful space. The classic building with dark wood paneling combined with how cavernous the space is made it feel a bit warmer of a backdrop for modern exhibits (admittedly not always my thing). Saw los Sonideros and Soup, Cosmos and Tears. Got a little bit lost trying to figure out if there were other exhibits we missed. $30 MXN entry for non students.

Yelp
I love this museum so much. The structure is complex and it is easy to miss on certain parts of the building. I still think there were two exhibitions that I couldn't find for the life of me. But the interior is vast, which allows for bigger installations and, obviously, instragrammable pictures.
