Vasco Fernandes (1475 — 1542) was a Portuguese painter, one of the most famous Portuguese painters of the Renaissance. He is widely known by the nickname Grão Vasco. The museum contains his main works. The museum has 2 floors, in addition to the works of Grao Vasco, you can see a lot of interesting things. I recommend.

Rather limited collection, but the building and the spaces inside are very nice.

The 16th-century altarpieces' gold leaf was applied using egg-white techniques. Guards note visitors always pause longest before the "St. Peter" panel's anatomically correct feet. The courtyard well drops 33 meters to an underground stream.

Paula Rego exhibit was mind and heart expanding! The techniques of print making were masterful. They helped to express a most important view of suppression of Women in society.

Beautiful collection of Portuguese renascentist art. There are also temporary exhibits (in our case, Salvador Dali). Each museum (permanent and temporary) costs 4 eur per adult, but there are discounts for families.

Quiet place with magnificent religious paintings by Vasco. Especially the one with St. Peter. The only thing I missed –postcards in museum shop.

A beautiful museum with a lot of interesting ancient and more modern works. The works by grao Vasco are very unusual since he paints in 'flemish' style including the buildings and features of people. His depictions of facial expressions are very notable because the people who are upset actually look upset (rather than, say, merely miffed about Jesus dying). The staff really want to make sure you visit in one particular flow which I don't understand but it didn't hinder the experience. Take some extra time to see the temporary exposition of 'views' where many are of old Portugal.
