"Set in a tropical garden in the suburb of Fannie Bay, this superb museum and gallery is the best place to learn all about the art, history and culture of the Top End (the nickname for this northernmost section of the Northern Territory). The excellent collection of indigenous art includes both traditional and contemporary works. One gallery is devoted to the tragic events of Cyclone Tracy, the natural disaster of 1974; another covers the boats of the Pacific Islands. The museum's most popular exhibit may well be Sweetheart: the stuffed carcass of a five-meter (16-foot) male saltwater crocodile that once terrorized the billabongs (waterways) outside Darwin."

This is a very informative and well-curated museum of local history / setting and display of regional art. The quality of all is excellent. We spent an hour to walk through all galleries, but if you are a citizen of AUS, NZ or Indonesia, or a student of the growth and dispersion of human civilizations, you might enjoy three hours here.

Incredibly interesting. Some amazing art and educational displays. Lots to learn about the history of Darwin. Parking was free as was the museum, with a voluntary donation option. I would highly recommend.

An incredible museum. A vast array of displays covering Darwin and it's history. The Aboriginal art exhibition is amazing as is the Cyclone Tracy exhibit. A beautiful area showing all the wildlife of this beautiful area and it even has Sweetheart, the most famous croc in the NT.

What a great, free gallery. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit which took about two hours. The animals, fossils and taxidermy sections were fascinating, the Unruly Days exhibition was powerful and enlightening. The boat display, even though in the non air conditioned section, was well worth the wander through. We did not visit the Cafe so can't comment. We did visit the museum shop and it has an excellent selection of books, with many titles you won't see in standard bookshops.

Great place to spend a couple of hours. Very Interesting exhibitions. Lots of history and culture here. Friendly staff. Only downside is that the bicycle parking was not shaded. Not wanting to return to a melted saddle i had to park it accross the road at the ski club.

Definately recommend visiting the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT. There is a lot to see here from the entomology displays, cyclone Tracey exhibit and the amazing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. I would definately set aside more time than you expect to look at everything on display. We were lucky enough to visit during the Telstra NATSIA display. The artwork was so varied and captivating it was difficult to select a favourite to vote for.
