Had a wonderful stay at the B&B as we went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at VMFA! Comfortable in the Cottage Inn, enjoying an adult beverage swinging on the front porch & two delic homemade breakfasts!

We were dissappointed with the B&B, we stayed in the carriage house, very small, with hardly any storage space, eg no drawers. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good however. The yard outside the carriage house does not look like the photo on their website. very unkept and tatty. The bathoom again was tiny and the basin loose on the wall, it moved when touched. The position is good. an easy stroll to Carytown with lots of restaurant choice and directly opposite the Museum. The overall feel was one of a need for investment, we would not stay again.

The Museum District bed-and-breakfast was the perfect location just across the street from VMFA and within walking distance to all of Carytown.|We were two friends traveling together and delighted in having two separate rooms And plenty of space to hang out together in as well|Breakfast was fabulous and made to order and the staff was very helpful and hospitable. |To have parking behind the house was a special bonus. |Highly recommend

Amazing bed & breakfast! We stayed in the Carriage House, which was very clean and very cute. Melinda served delicious hot breakfast, juices, coffee/tea, and had fruit & yogurt for people on the go. We had a great experience and Melinda was so nice! Highly recommend ☺️

We had a fabulous stay in the John Lane room on January 22. Melinda was an excellent host! She was luckily able to accommodate our request for both an early check-in and late check-out. The breakfast she made was excellent also! The John Lane room was excellent and worked very well for us. The location in proximity to the museums as well as shopping and dinning in Carytown make this an excellent location for a stay in Richmond.

This historic home is in a long row of historic homes near the Museum of Fine Arts. A great neighborhood for strolling, and walking distance to many restaurants. We stayed in the Carriage House in the back of the yard. It was nicely appointed and very private. Wonderful tub for soaking. Small fridge and coffee making opportunities right there. The very personable innkeeper made some great suggestions for our time in the area; she also prepared us a wonderful cooked-to-order breakfast.

So nice to find a great Richmond home away from home for our girlfriend 2 night stay. Melinda was warm and welcoming. The library had a nice variety of books to read and the front porch was a breezy comfy place to enjoy some wine and snacks. I really loved walking to the museum of art for Wednesday night live music and eating at Amuse restaurant upstairs. And yes, I would return to this great B&B in the future. Melinda offers a great breakfast spread.

From the moment we walked in the front door we knew the weekend ahead of us was going to be the BEST! This spacious, beautiful home was the perfect place for our family weekend get away. The check in was easy with the key in a lock box on the porch. (Parking was at the back of the home and easy to find.) The living room was comfortable and cozy with a puzzle that "invited" us to finish it that evening! The dining area gave us just enough of a hint to know that our breakfast each morning would be amazing (and it was!). There was fruit on the table to snack on and water available (with ice in the room). The enchanting stairway leads to the four rooms, including two full baths and one half bath (we rented every room in the house). The excitement we all had as we were looking at each others' rooms added to the check in! Each room was very clean, inviting and comfortable. The bedroom in Judge Rhea's Suite was perfect with the windows all around! We woke up each morning to the smell of breakfast! Eggs however we wanted them, local bacon, banana pancakes, waffles. pastries and several other breakfast choices, along with a variety of teas, coffee and juices. The time our family spent together at breakfast was one of the best parts of the weekend! Melinda is an amazing host and we all enjoyed "hanging out" with her. The home is very conveniently located across from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and walking distance from many stores, restaurants and other inviting locations. We can honestly say that this was one the best place we have ever stayed and we are already recommending it to everyone who will listen! Thank you for your hospitality and for everything you did for our family while we were visting!

Yelp
Late night check in due to late flight...hostess responded via telephone and text...left written instructions for me to checkin but also met me at the door and escorted me to my space. Large suite...robes..comfy bed...bottled water Chilly room warmed by a little table top heater. Enjoyed coffee, cranberry juice, eggs, croissant, bacon and yogurt parfait for breakfast. Only wish...because I love luxury bath products...wish they would partner with a local luxury brand for toiletries etc for this BNB... I will return

Yelp
I have stayed at the Museum District Bed and Breakfast twice, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it! I used to live in the Fan/Museum District, and I love this place because it is in such a good location, right next to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (which I highly recommend as well!), as well as walking distance to shops and restaurants in Carytown, the Fan, etc. We stayed in the carriage house the first time and the house itself the second time. Both were very cozy, with lots of amenities, such as bathrobes, bottled water, and coffee pot/tea in the room. The breakfast in the morning is phenomenal. It is made to order, with eggs, bacon, various rolls, oatmeal, coffee, etc. and served in the house's dining room. The staff is absolutely lovely and so welcoming. Another added bonus is that they provide tickets for admission to the special exhibit at the VMFA, as well as passes to get a free drink in their cafeteria. Love, love, LOVE this place. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed in the Judge's Suite for two nights after our wedding and it was magical! I'd never stayed in a B&B, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I definitely want to go back! There's an extensive book collection, private parking, and the VMFA right across the street. The room was spacious with historical Richmond charm. It had a private sitting room, small office (with mini fridge and coffee maker), bedroom with a view, and the greatest bathroom I've ever seen! As another reviewer has mentioned, the main door to the suite doesn't lock (which we thought was odd at first), but after we met Anna and the other guests (who were all extremely nice), we weren't concerned about it. The breakfast alone would be a reason to return! We received a three-course breakfast: yogurt with fresh berries and granola, followed by scrambled eggs cooked to order with delicious bacon from a local butcher, finished with BOTH a warm, flaky croissant (complete with French jam) and a warm cinnamon roll. There was never-ending coffee and OJ too! Wowza. Let me also just say: I could have lived in that bathroom. The two-person steam shower, two-person soaking tub, and double vanity provided the perfect spa-like escape my husband I were looking for on our minimoon. This was far better than staying in some chain hotel.

Yelp
My husband and I recently stayed in the Judge's Suite, and we had such a nice time! The house is extremely convenient from I-95, has private parking, and so many great places are walkable from the house. The house is beautiful, and sits on an equally lovely street--across the way is the Museum of Fine Art. A very short walk will get you to a really cute area full of fun restaurants and shops. Breakfast was really good! We had fresh fruit and pastries, and a great cheesy egg scramble with bacon. Anna also has a happy hour with wine and cheese that we really enjoyed. However, the very best part of the stay was the unreal bathroom that's part of the suite. Double shower with heat steam, a huge bathtub, a bidet...WOW. Loved everything, but that bathroom is something else!

Yelp
I cannot recommend Museum District B&B highly enough! Melinda made us feel like home from the second that we arrived. My partner had requested lillies and champagne for my birthday and they were waiting in the suite when we arrived! The Judge Rhea suite was beautiful, with gorgeous windows and a bathroom that was to die for. Everything was clean, comfortable and homey. The best part was the food - the breakfast was truly wonderful (I've never tasted granola that good, and the biscuits were fantastic) and we loved the wine and cheese happy hour. We sat on the front porch swing looking at the beautiful rose bushes and drank our wine and never wanted to leave. We were already talking about coming back! She also gave us a peek inside the Carriage House, which was also a charming suite. Thank you very much for your fantastic hospitality, Melinda! This B&B is a real gem.

Yelp
Adorable, cozy, a total treat. I would stay here again in a hearbeat. It is located on a tree lined street in a historic area directly across the street from the Fine Arts Museum. I think we were in the John Lane Suite, which is more like a wing of the house than a 'suite' per say. An office with a twin bed, main bedroom with a half bath, separate bedroom with a full size bed and a full bathroom and large outdoor deck. The host was very hospitable, after showing us our rooms she offered us wine and cheese, and upon our return the wine was left out with wine glasses. She lent us an umbrella on a cloudy night and made sure we had everything we needed. Our bedroom didn't have a lock but there is only one other guest space so it didn't seem like this was the kind of place where you needed to worry about safety or privacy. The full bath with the shower was out in the hall, but they give you bathrobes. The office has a senseo coffee maker, but breakfast is served from 8am-11:30 and will leave you completely satisfied-fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, 2 types of fresh croissants, yogurt with fresh berries, local eggs and smoked bacon. That's what I call breakfast! Our room had very comfy bed with soft sheets with plenty of drawer space and a large full length mirror. All of the products were from body shop & whole foods and the bathroom came fully stocked with everything you could need, shaving cream, body wash, cu tips, feminine hygiene products, even Dixie Cups. I don't even buy those for my home anymore! You instantly get that pampered vacation feeling when you are here, incredibly relaxing and accommodating. There was nothing not to like!

Yelp
Love love loved. Anna was so nice and inviting. Her wine and cheese selection was well paired. I would def. go back and stay in the B and B again the next we roll they RVA. Also, she packed up the left over croissants and cinnamon buns that we didn't eat at breakfast for us to have on the road, and boy were they delicious. Thank you!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this bed and breakfast just last night and it was wonderful! We stayed in the lovely and cozy carriage house for one night. This place is so nice. Anna is wonderful. She was so sweet and she really put a lot of work into the small details. Our breakfast was superb! There was a lot of food! We ate at 8:30 this morning, and it's 4 in the afternoon right now (had no lunch) and I'm still full from breakfast! The location of this B&B is great too because it is super close to all the shops and restaurants on Cary St and right across from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. If you're thinking about staying here, you definitely should!

Yelp
The Bed and Breakfast is very quaint and comfy. We stayed in the suite and it really felt like home. The sleeping porch in our bedroom was incredibly comfortable. This was a huge plus: sheets that smell like tide!! We haven't even finished our stay here and were blown away! We only wish we could stay longer. Helpful tip: there's private parking in the back! Yay!

Yelp
As a frequent traveler for both business and pleasure, I'm fairly particular on what I need in lodging. Comfortable, clean rooms, wifi, easy access to meeting facilities, concierge service if necessary, and the ability to work unbothered and order a glass of wine at 11:00 pm. While these features are common (and increasingly pricier) in large hotel chains, it was a remarkable find to discover them all in an immaculate and historic property in downtown Richmond. Museum District Bed and Breakfast is the luxury boutique hotel with personalized service that's actually affordable. First, the property. An impeccably restored and decorated historic home. The rooms are elegant and large, beds and pillows very comfortable, plush robes, and clean, clean, clean! I've stayed in 3 of the rooms at the property and my favorites are the Judge Rhea Suite and the Carriage House. The Judge Rhea Suite was like a luxury suite at any national hotel, but with the added amenities of better decor, a steam spa, and a large comfortable den with a work area. Oh, and blinds that lower from the top in the bedroom to adjust sunlight perfectly. The steam spa was relaxing and pampering on a cold winter evening. On my last stay, I booked the Carriage House to work uninterrupted. Another perfect space. Comfortable bed, glorious claw-footed bathub/shower, loveseat, fridge, a nice-sized work/desk area and still a strong signal from the FREE wifi. There was also a small patio table and chairs just out the front door. I felt like I was in my own personalized retreat. The house has an inviting living room and a fully stocked library. If you're in need of any reading material or local travel literature, it's there. Want the New York Times with your breakfast? It's on the credenza. Next, food! Dining was a treat. Breakfast is fresh coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, and fresh croissants from a local bakery. There was also a wide assortment of fresh fruit, the normal continental fare (yogurt, cereal, etc), but the real star was hot meal. Fresh bacon (again local) and the dreamiest eggs imaginable (does Anna use Crème fraiche to make them so awesome? I must ask next stay). Of course, there is always fresh fruit, cheese, and wine/beverages any time of day. With just the basics I've described, I would have happily booked a stay here, but there is one other feature that goes so far above and beyond your expectations, it has to have its own paragraph. SERVICE. Anna Currence was born to work in hospitality. She is like a machine. Personal, warm, prompt, knowledgeable (toss out a few adjectives to describe a restaurant or shopping and she can send you on your way!), unobtrusive, professional, attentive, and gracious. I can't even begin to describe the ease of which she attends to guests with such effortless grace. Need transportation or information on where to go? Arranged promptly--which is something I really value for those 8:00 am meetings down near the courthouse. Anna has you fed, happy, and pampered, and on your way. You don't want to walk out the door! Her attention to detail and intuitive service is what you will miss the most. Well, that and her cooking. And the steam spa. You get the idea. :) On my most recent stay, my connecting flight out of NYC was delayed by a storm. Multiple times. I was frustrated, tired, and cold. I called Anna to let her know of my travel frustrations and that there was no way I could arrive at a reasonable hour (like before midnight) and my rental car would not be available at the Richmond airport. Her response? "Don't worry, I'll take care of it. You just stay warm and safe." When I finally got to Richmond, she had arranged my transportation to the property, she greeted me with a smile and helped me settle into my room. Knowing I'd been on the road so long, she had a food plate in my room, a bathrobe in my size, and hot tea. The real kicker: this was only my second stay! I could sing the praises of Museum District B&B all day, but will stop now. In short, an amazing property, a wonderful and attentive owner, and my ONLY choice from now to stay. I look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
I booked the John Lane Suite at Museum District B&B for my husband and I's wedding anniversary. I am so glad that I did! The B&B is gorgeous and wonderfully located by the Fine Arts Museum. Anna is so nice and accommodating. I love the maps she gives out when you check-in. It makes city traveling so much easier! The room we stayed in was immaculate! I loved the robes that were laid out for us to use! I can't talk about this B&B without mentioning the breakfast! Oh my was it amazing! Anna had croissants of varying types, fresh fruit and yogurt, and homemade bacon and eggs. It was wonderful and we left so stuffed! I would definitely recommend staying a night or two at this B&B. You will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Museum District Bed & Breakfast! Anna was a gracious hostess and made our stay extremely comfortable and pleasant. The B&B is located in a beautifully restored Victorian home, directly across the street from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Virginia Museum of Culture & History. We stayed in the Carriage House located on a lovely patio and garden right behind the main house. The room itself was thoughtfully arranged with lots of little details and amenities designed to provide a comfortable stay. We were able to arrange our check in time ahead of time with Anna and arrived just in time for the evening wine and cheese hour, which was a great way to kick off our stay. The hot breakfast in the morning was equally enjoyable, complete with delicious fresh pastries from a local bakery and fresh squeezed orange juice. We would love to stay here again the next time we visit Richmond!

Yelp
Unfortunately Anne is leaving the business. However, you have another week to stay at her B & B before she does.

Yelp
We just came back from another fantastic visit with Anna at the Museum District B&B(our fifth!). The Judge Rhea Suite and the John Lane Suite are both excellent. I have just booked reservations for another trip in April, when we will check out the Carriage House, too. Everything the other reviewers are saying is true. The amazing owner, the gorgeous decor, the delicious breakfast...all correct! And this is consistently the case. I cannot come up with enough praise for this B&B. You will never regret booking a reservation here.

Laura R.

Yelp
Anna was such a gracious hostess, and her home was so comfortable and welcoming. I particularly enjoyed the decadent breakfast and the afternoon wine and cheese. This is what staying at a Bed & Breakfast is all about.

Yelp
The worst bnb experience. First I reserve a room and ask a question. When I follow up 2 weeks later, the owner tells me she's cancelled my reservation and let me know via her online form. The online form must be non-functional because I never received a email about this. I follow her instructions and reserve a more expensive room. She tells TWO DAYS before our arrival that she prefers we go else where because our time of arrival is late at night. She said that she is 65 and has to go to bed and cannot wait up. It is fine to be a mom and pop shop. I support bnb's bc I want to support small business, but to pull the rug out TWO days before arrival without having specified anything on the website, and depending on an online service that she doesn't know how to use, is really unacceptable. I ended up having to cancel and do a last minute scramble for an alternate place that was more expensive and did not include breakfast. It was the worse experience I have ever had with a lodging reservation.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Our experience with Museum District B&B was disappointing. Initially I booked a room for late June, but had to change the reservation for early July. Initially there were no issues. Then, Anna called me the Saturday of my initial reservation saying she was ready for me to check in... When I informed her we had changed our reservation, she asked me to send her the email that confirmed the reservation change and stated that we would not be staying at the B&B on the date we intended to stay because it was now booked by another couple. After hanging up with Anna, I received a second call from her asking if I was the person who previously called her asking if she had a room available the evening. I informed her it was not me but asked if she had another room available in July, she offered the most expensive room the last week of July at the full $205/night rate (we were booked for the carriage house at $163/night). Based on this experience I can not recommend this B&B to others.

Yelp
More times than not, I've been disappointed with b&b but the Museum District Bed & Breakfast has changed my mind!! I found the Waldorf Astoria of bed and breakfasts. I found first class luxurious facilities. Please read the 10/24/10 review. Everything the reviewer said is correct. The room was beyond my expectations, the sheets were luxurious, and my breakfast was catered to my early wake-up time. Thank you Anne for that sweet Southern touch!! *I returned to the Museum District B&B in Feb 2013. I couldn't of been happier and I will continue the 5star rating because the room, the food and the hospitality were all there.

Ellen H.

Yelp
The decor is tasteful and homey, but the owner goes to great trouble with the small details that make this is a five star experience -- excellent mattresses, bedding and towels, well stocked rooms with coffee, tv and top bath amenities. There is a fresh breakfast and an evening wine and cheese for guests with very discerning choices. There are lovely outdoor areas and it is in a beautiful neighborhood of Richmond. Richmond has wonderful restaurants nearby, so a stay here is a treat.
