Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus

Giethoorn is a peaceful Dutch village often called the “Venice of the Netherlands.” With no main roads in its old center, life here moves gently along narrow canals connected by charming wooden bridges. Thatched-roof cottages, lush gardens, and quiet boat rides create a fairytale atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you slow down naturally—gliding through calm waters, listening to birds, and simply enjoying the stillness.

It is a small but really cute museum. It gives the feeling of walking in a house in 1800s. We loved to look around in the house and read about some of the unfamiliar items aim of use. You can also put some clothes on from these times and take some photos. Museum card is valid here.

Amazing place to see the rich heritage and a bit of history of Geithorn. We passed by and visited the museum. The lovely people who manage the place are very warm and very very sweet. They let us try Heritage Food that is very tasty. Realy warm place to visit. Thank you very much.

If so, it's an excellent opportunity to learn about the past of this fairy-tale village and the life of the people who used to live there. Although it is not a very big museum, the history is explained in detail. Authentic items and clothing are on display. You can also try historical clothes and clogs and take pictures.

Loved the place! They have audio aids with explanations in a lot of languages. The place is really nice, you will find a lot of information about the village, it was actually pretty interesting. They have old clothes, furniture, and everything is arranged as if we were living in the old Giethoorn. I went on a Saturday and they were selling knieperties, so delicious!

Clean and tidy restrooms with hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and a diaper changing station. The museum's environment and staff are warm and friendly.

Small but very cute museum in the center of the town. It is possible to see how people lived in the past in Giethoorn, the house, the daily life, all the agricultural uses and how the society of this small village worked. 6,5 euro to get in. The staff is very gentle and kind. Recommended

What a beautiful place. The Venice of the Netherlands we were told and it is just a wonderful place to be in. Lots of people but that's to be expected. Everyone should come and visit. The museum was really interesting and explained a lot about the history of the place. Five and a half euros to get in but I think it was worth it.
