Amsterdam vs Rotterdam: Best places to eat, visit and chill - SilverKris

"A former public-housing complex converted into a gallery and museum devoted to the Amsterdam School and 'Brick Expressionism,' using film, mirrors and soundscapes to interpret the movement and showcasing ornate cherry-red brickwork and decorative masonry." - SilverKris

Thanks for the previous advice on the English speaking tour at 3pm. It did make all the difference. There will be a women in architecture opening in October 25 which will double the museum on offer. What is there already is well worth going to see. Just wish they included Charles Rennie Mackintosh as other influences. Gaudi and Wright are mentioned so why not CR?

In a city that has so many world class museums, this more off the beaten track is a gem!!! It was very well run, informative and the tour was excellent. I didn’t really know what to expect before going to it, but was really impressed by it and recommend. Check the website as they give English tours at fixed times

Very cool, off the beaten track museum - but it's only worth going if you can get on a tour (included with entry, €16.50 adult / €8 student) because you can only go into the buildings with a guide. The English tour was only at 3pm so we planned our trip around that. The tour was informative, and visits the post office and the interior of one of the apartments, restored with 1920s furniture. The museum upstairs is interesting, with a historical timeline for the Amsterdam style, and examples of furniture and design. However, the audio section (and the video downstairs) are only in Dutch, without English transcripts. The museum is not worth the entry price for the exhibit alone; the tour is really the thing to go for. The temporary exhibit was closed when we went, but looked promising - it will be on women!

A fantastic small museum that explains the political economy of urban housing in Amsterdam in the early 20th century. How an idealistic bunch of architects and city planners created aesthetically beautiful low-income housing and public infrastructure. The “Amsterdamsche School” explained. This style characterizes many areas of Amsterdam today: from housing to bridges to post offices and, yes, urinals. It is an easy walk from Amsterdam CS.

Get the walking tour around the building! There is only one english speaking tour a day (3pm) The walking tour around the building is one of the best things you can do in Amsterdam The museum itself is small and fairly well curated. Quite interesting but probably only 4 stars. Easily 5 stars if you're doing the tour

Google
Fascinating museum in a beautiful set of buildings. An excellent tour runs in English at 3pm, or they'll give you a ln English-language 'reader' if you want to accompany one of the Dutch tours. Well worth it

Google
I’m an architecture enthusiast, and this museum stands out as one of the best in the Netherlands. The intricate details both inside and outside the museum are truly captivating. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the neighborhood; you’ll discover numerous examples of this architectural style.

Google
A relatively small exhibition but which provides lots of interesting information about the Amsterdamse School and the period in which it appeared. Importantly, the exhibition is not only about architecture, but also about history, politics and art, and provides a lot of elements to understand social movements that shaped Amsterdam and the Netherlands in the first half of the 20th century. I can only recommend if you're into these things!

Yelp
The museum is about five minutes from the northern section of Westerpark. This is an architectural type of museum. The whole complex and neighborhood was very interesting historic Dutch architecture.
