Must-visit museums and theatres in Dusseldorf, Germany - SilverKris

"An eclectic museum that juxtaposes classic and contemporary works across its galleries, with a standout permanent glass collection that traces some 3,500 years of glassmaking through around 3,000 displayed objects." - SilverKris

A huge museum with many fascinating artworks. Everything was great, though I felt a bit sorry for the cloakroom staff — there was only one person working during the museum’s special evening event, and the line was so long. He really deserves a raise!

Just walking up to this museum is something to see the beautiful fountain with all the families around it enjoy the beautiful day. It was. The museum itself is quite interesting. Three levels. They had a special exhibit called mama, which I must say was very unique and interesting. Some of the other artwork were very unique that I hadn’t seen before. Oh, it’s a way to spend a nice Sunday afternoon. They have a coffee shop and a gift shop.

I am lucky enough to have a 1 year old daughter that already loves strolling through art museums. We felt so welcomed and comfortable at the Kunstpalast. She’s a quiet, “chill” baby to be sure, but some things did help: 1. A diaper changing room. 2. Lockers big enough to fit our foldable stroller, diaper bag, and coats. In the past we left our larger stroller with employees behind the counter. 3. Little benches and tables on the 1st floor where we could eat our packed lunch (did not bring food into exhibits, of course). 4. An elevator to each level of the museum. The entrance is a bit tricky with a stroller/wheelchair — elevator is to the left of entrance stairs. 5. Superbly friendly, and welcoming employees, from the ticket sales to the ushers in the exhibits. Thank you so much! 6. Special evenings specifically for parents to enjoy a tour of certain exhibits with their baby.

Update on July 6, 2025. The permanent collection is housed in inspiring architecture. The collection itself is no match to many of the bigger institutions I’ve visited, but the design details make for a good experience. ———— The text below was written on May 16, 2025 The current special exhibitions, a solo by Elias Sime and a motherhood-themed curated one, are both stunning. The location is stunning. So close to the bustling Rhein riverside promenade yet secluded off to its own peaceful corner. From the shopping district of König Allee, this art space can be reached by walking/biking solely in a park. I’ll be back to check out the permanent collection.

A very interesting and large museum, with many works of art from modern to classical. A museum you should not miss when coming to Duesseldorf

Quite a big museum with a variety of styles in paintings. Also some other objects like sculptures and vases. Also a good restaurant inside, quite busy, but very good king pawn spaghetti.

Yelp
I enjoyed the one exhibit but our visit was a bit short. Maybe they're doing a lot of construction and changing out a number of exhibits, because there was really only the one thing to look out. "Captivate!" is curated by German supermodel Claudia Schiffer who is a native of the North Thine-Westphalia district making the Düsseldorf Kunstpalast a good choice. The exhibit takes us through the golden age of fashion and supermodels. Photographs, more photographs, some memorabilia and lots of captions in both German and English. I enjoyed it but would like to have seen more art. If there's more going on here, we couldn't find it. [Review 16376 overall - 181 in Germany - 1883 of 2021.]

Yelp
Beautiful Museum! The parking is a little tricky but there is plenty of it once you get footed! The museum is relatively large on the inside! The staff are friendly, attentive and super informative! Although I've been to Dusseldorf a few times now, this was my first time visiting the museum to see "PS Ich Liebe Dich" And I was wonderfully impressed with how organized and informative the exhibit was! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Average collection of art arranged in a very disorienting way, not grouped by theme, time, style, anything. Plus quite pricey to get in (for a Londoner who is used to these museums being free). However seems to have some prestige and the temporary exhibitions looked great. It is located near the glass museum which is convenient

Yelp
In late November,I visited this fine art museum and relished its outstanding exhibit of paintings by Francisco de Zurbaran featuring his awesome depictions of monks, saints, and scenes from the life of Christ. This exhibit ends on January 31st,2016.I also enjoyed its panoply of Flemish and Dutch paintings, including splendid paintings by Peter Paul Rubens and Workshop, Caesar Boetius Van Everdingen,Frans Snyders,Jan Goyen,Jacob Van Ruisdael,Eglon Vander Neer, and Anthonie Van Borssom.,among others(permanent collection).Even though, this art museum had problems with its roof,i enjoyed its fine collection of German paintings, including delightful paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder("Ill-Matched Couple"),JohanKonig,Casper David Friederich,Andreas Aschenbach,Fritz Schider("Chinese Tower,English Garden Munich"),Max Slevogt("Back of Nude Lady"),Ernst Ludwig Kirschner,Auguste Macke Alexei Jawlensky,,and Wassily Kandinsky, among others(permanent collection). This art museum also has an excellent comprehensive collection of Glass Art .
