A fresh spin on cuisine and art in Jakarta - SilverKris

"Despite having around 4,000 m2 of event and exhibition space, this modern and contemporary art institution is one of Jakarta’s leading art venues and was the country’s first museum of its kind, providing public access to a growing collection of Indonesian and international art. Its permanent holdings include works by Indonesian artists such as Raden Saleh, Srihadi Soedarsono and S Sudjojono, while its program stages conceptual exhibitions — for example, “The Past Has Not Passed” by Arahmaiani, Lee Mingwei’s “Seven Stories” and On Kawara’s “One Million Years,” which were scheduled to open on 17 November." - Jed Doble

Really glad we visited this museum. It has a huge collection of European art as well as regional art. Interesting to see the collection. We were lucky enough to visit the Yayoi infinity room that has no queue at the time we visited. Luckily the museum was free with Art Jakarta pass because the museum entry doesn't take credit card payment.

Sharing this slightly late, but I visited Museum Macan just after the New Year holiday with a friend.. thought we'd kick off the year with a little artsy escape. We got our tickets using the student discount (luv that!) and went on a weekday, which helped with the crowds.. though it was still pretty busy thanks to the holiday vibe. The main exhibition at the time was by Korakrit Arunanondchai, whose take on the theme was honestly fascinating. Not exactly my cup of tea, I'm more of a look-at-the-pretty-paintings kind of museum-goer, but I'd say his exhibition was a solid success. Sadly, I can't even remember the name of the other artist because we weren't allowed to take photos. There were no clear signs to remind us, just a slightly abrupt "no photos!" from the security. The theme itself? Gross and weird in a way that flew over my very non-art-expert head. One thing I did like was the designated kids' area. I heard they switch up the theme regularly so families have something new each visit. That's a nice touch if you're coming with kids. The downside? Some of the staff, especially security, came off a bit rude when telling us what not to do, and the attendants didn't really help us understand the artworks either. A bit more context or guidance would've made the experience so much better. Verdict? Might give Macan another shot if they bring in a theme that matches my taste better.. it's a lovely space and I get the hype, but here's hoping the next visit feels more welcoming! 🎨

Spent a couple of hours at Museum MACAN and really enjoyed the experience. The space is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. A good mix of Indonesian and international contemporary art, with some standout installations like Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room. Staff were helpful, and the atmosphere felt calm and reflective. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into art or just looking for something different to do in Jakarta.

great and big art museum in jakarta, well maintenance and humble staff. most artist are japanese that have unique art style. food and drink are not allowed inside. DSLR camera also not allowed (they have mail room outside and it's free also safety). instagramable, cool place that fun for all ages. carpark is plenty on the basement. at gorengan bureau, kids can blast their creativity to design the gorean look a like packaging on their own. there are stamp, colored pen and marker available free for use there. admission is 90.000 rupiahs for adult, not accepted cash and the ticket is cashless, they sent to your email. recomended place to go for long weekend, arrive here in the morning for the best instagramable shoot 🥹

I visited several museums in Jakarta, and among them, there were some worthwhile pieces. The quality of the permanent exhibitions was better than the special exhibitions.

I bought my ticket through Traveloka Rp 70.000 for weekday and the whole entry process was seamless! The staff were friendly and everything was well organized. I really love the ambience here—calm, inspiring, and perfect for enjoying the art. Definitely worth a visit! 🤍

Visited Museum MACAN for the first time and had a great experience! It’s conveniently located near a TransJakarta station, and you can easily walk to the building. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance via Traveloka—super smooth process and you can skip the queue. The museum itself is beautifully curated. One of the highlights was Kei Imazu’s “The Sea is Barely Wrinkled”—it felt like being gently held by the ocean. Quiet, deep, and soft. I could’ve stared at it forever. Of course, Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room is a must-see. The mirrored space, filled with light and reflection, creates a dreamy, almost otherworldly feeling. It’s both playful and meditative—absolutely lives up to the hype. They also had fun interactive exhibits like the Gorengan Bureau, where you can make your own identity card. Lots of great collections throughout—contemporary, bold, and thought-provoking. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into art, design, or just want to experience something visually inspiring. Will be back for future exhibitions!

First time visiting Museum Macan. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Absolutely love the layout of the galleries and how spacious and open the space is. Although not that many collections, the museum has some really nice collections that I truly appreciated. I visited when Kei Imazu's exhibition was there, and it was quite incredible! Yayoi Kusama's "Infinity Mirror Room" is also there and every person is only allowed to be in the installation for 20 seconds. Would love to go back when there's a new exhibition.
