The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations is one of, if not THE, major attraction in Ankara. It is not a huge collection, one to two hours will certainly cover it. But it contains beautiful and fascinating examples of the history of mankind in Turkey. It starts with the Paleolithic and goes through every stage of Western Civilization, showing how Anatolia was the crossroads of everything!
The prime parts of the exhibit are the Hittite (Ataturk's personal interest) and its successor, the Phrygians.). The stone reliefs in the central area are remarkable, showing the strong Babalonian influence. Classical and Roman eras get a briefer nod in the lower exhibit area.
My only quibble with this gem was the lack of a museum guide or map. Also the Audio Tour was not available. The booth was staffed by a young woman whose only English was 'Audio Tour Not Available.' I don't know if only the English was not available or the whole system was down. The signage is all in Turkish and English so you can get around, but it was a surprising irritation.
It was not enough to downgrade the experience! If you are in Ankara: GO!
PS: The restrooms, though outside the main building, were very modern and beautifully maintained.
