Pretty cute little walkthrough museum. At 39 years of age I couldn't help but to dive into the baked bean pit and highly enjoyed the molasses candy dispensed at the sauce section. It is definitely more child themed but still educational and the ring toss is much more difficult than you would imagine. There was absolutely no traffic while I did the tour even though it is located deep in the Hallmark Crown Mall. Definitely a place you want to experience with others though.

My husband and I had a great visit to the museum yesterday. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and very kind. Loved the BBQ facts, the museum's layout and flow, and the interactive displays - all very well thought out. Doesn't matter how much you know about BBQ, this museum is entertaining and interesting. A group of school-age kids and teachers also visited at the time, and they enjoyed it as well. It's definitely worth a visit!

My son and I while on our trip to KC stopped by the museum as part of a bbq food tasting tour. The museum is very well laid out and takes you through the whole history of the various bbq styles including KC’s. It provides just the right amount of info without being overwhelming and taking too long to pass through. The displays are easy to follow and some are interactive. There is even a display to test your sense of smell. The owner was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He even helped pick out a few bbq seasonings from his well stocked store to take home with us. The museum appeals to adults, teens and children with activities for all age groups. We would definitely recommend you make this museum a part of any trip to Kansas City !

The museum was really cool and everyone in my family of 5 (age range 8, 13, 14, 38, & 40) enjoyed visiting. There was a lot of interesting history and information about different bbq styles around the United States. The kids really enjoyed the ball pit and the tokens to get bonus stuff. I purchased tickets online in advance cause I didn’t know if it was going to be crazy busy, but we were the only ones in the museum at the time we went (2:30pm).

I like barbecue and thought the museum would be a great place to learn about one of my favorite dishes. Yes, I flew from Chicago to visit the Museum of BBQ. I spent an hour reading, playing games, and taking pictures. As I walked around the museum, I realized I had not tried barbecue from Kansas City or Texas. I dined at Rendezvous in Memphis and Rodney Scott’s in South Carolina. I was hungry by the end of the self-guided tour. Visit the gift shop. I purchased Rendezvous Famous Seasoning Rub. Are you looking for a unique souvenir? Ask about the scratch-n-stiff sticker.

Went here on a Sunday it was awesome! Had a blast i highly recommend checking it out. We bought a mystery bag it was awesome what was inside. Worth it! If your thinking about it just do it! It doesn't cost much for admission everyone was awesome we dealt with. It's fun for all ages. Very educational, lots of information but learning in a fun way. They have a bean pit!

We bought tickets in advance, VERY easy, but we could have bought them right at the counter with no wait. SO fun! Such a great experience. We are Texans who love our BBQ and were so excited to see this just opened in April. I tend to have a short attention span but all the interactive activities for my 40yr old self kept me interested and entertained the whole time. It was the perfect length, not too short or too long. Loved the Smell Test station, and the lava tiles! Everything was so creative and thoughtfully designed, visually esthetic. Fun for ALL ages! (Sister featured in photos)

Google
What a fun, informative place to visit! There are so many ways to interact with the exhibits, while learning along the way. My husband KNOWS barbecue and I’m a novice and we both enjoyed ourselves immensely. I’m not going to lie, I’m 66 years old and my favorite part was getting to try out the “baked beans” ball pit. The Museum of Barbecue was a real treat.

Yelp
The Museum of BBQ is a cute place to learn about BBQ. The space is small, but it packs a decent amount of information in. You will learn about the history of BBQ and the regional styles. It is family-friendly and has easy and fun interactive elements, including a baked beans ball pit. I spent less than an hour walking through the museum, playing in the ball pit (yes, adults are allowed in it), and shopping in the gift shop. The gift shop is stocked with Kansas City BBQ sauces and rubs. It is not the cheapest place to shop, but it is convenient for tourists visiting Crown Center. Admission is $11.10 per person, and Crown Center offers free two-hour parking validation. The Museum of BBQ is good place to go to if you have some spare time.

Yelp
The museum explores the birth and evolution of BBQ, the types of meat, wood, sauces, cookers, smokers and all the regional differences in a series of rooms with storyboards and photos with some hands-on type activities to keep the kids entertained. Although you could probably educate yourself to everything presented here via the internet; you probably wouldn't and $10 isn't a bad deal. I loved the Memphis wall mural and wish that the Kansas City section had an one also. The gift shop is very cool with scores of sauces, rubs, seasonings, cookbooks and paraphernalia from the five regions that are highlighted in the museum. I picked up some sauce from two BBQ joints that I ate at in Texas and Memphis, plus some small bottles of Gates and Meat Mitch to give as gifts to friends coming to town next week. I hope the evolution of this museum continues to grow and involving actual pitmasters work their trade on-site. I would have loved to have had some samples or bought a sandwich.

Yelp
The Museum of BBQ was so much fun. It's not a traditional "museum" but it does tell the story of barbecue and what makes the barbecue in Kansas City special. There are lots of opportunities to take pictures throughout the museum. How many places can you go to find a mustard championship belt or jump in a pit of baked beans. After you visit this museum you will understand everything you have ever wanted to know about barbecue and more.

Yelp
We had an amazing time at the Museum of BBQ! We arrived about 20 minutes before closing time and they were gracious enough to let us in. By the way they close at 6 PM during the week as most of Crown Center does. The staff here was amazingly kind and gracious, and gave us tokens to experience different things inside the exhibit. This is a very comprehensive museum, covering the beginnings of barbecue and how it developed across the country. You can learn about all of the different regions, different sauces, and all the different kinds of meat that are used and where the different cuts are on the animals. They have an amazing retail section with all the sauces and rubs you could dream of. Plan on 30 minutes to an hour to see everything and do everything especially if you have children. This is a wonderful addition to our city where barbecue is such a part of the fabric of life and it was a joy to be here opening week and add this location to Yelp.

Yelp
This place is cool if you're a lover of BBQ or a history buff. It was great getting to learn about the different types of BBQ styles based off location and the role KC plays in the bbq scene. The museum is interactive so definitely good for the kids and it has a bean pit which is cool and really different from other museums for sure. It's $10 to get in which isn't terrible but it can get a little costly if you have a larger family. The only thing I wished is that there was actually bbq there! I had so many people ask me if there was actually any BBQ available and because it's a museum, I completely understand why there isn't but maybe adding on a coupon to visit Burnt End BBQ downstairs will help tie everything you just learned in the museum together.

Yelp
My experience here was 10/10. The workers are beyond friendly and helpful and even gave us recommendations of BBQ places to eat in KC! My family and I were visiting from other states and we learned so much about what types of meat to use for BBQ, what spices are used, how each state incorporated their own styles, etc. they give you two tokens at the start for some small gifts during your visit. It was interactive and fun for all ages, not just kids and not just adults. It was such a fun experience and I could not recommend this place enough. It's tucked away in the corner of the mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but we were not disappointed and my family said it was a highlight of our trip. Thank you for an awesome and fun experience, for teaching us so much about BBQ, and giving us recommendations! Definitely recommend for all BBQ fans!

Yelp
This exhibit was so much fun! Highly recommend if you are in the Kansas City area or in Kansas City itself. The staff are very nice and strike up conversations. The exhibit is full of history, interactive activities, and a baked beans ball pit which was a highlight for sure. Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Had the BEST time at the museum!!! Corey and Jonathan are so nice and informative. The museum is clean, fun, educational and interactive. $10 admission was well worth it for an hour of BBQ educational entertainment. :)
