The museum had an array of interesting exhibitions. Slavery in Belize, The history of the former prison that the museum is in, Different types of traditions, An art exhibition by a local artist, Beautiful birds, and An insect exhibition underway. They were all very interesting, and there is something for everyone.
To me, however, the most interesting part was about slavery. It always blows my mind how awful our history is, and how we always find ways to justify why we do the things we do. How there's very often someone who for one reason or the other think they are more important and more valuable than someone else. Even though we are all human beings, equally important, since we are all needed no matter what part we play in society. It's the type of exhibition that isn't uplifting, instead it makes you think. And to me that's imperative if we are ever going to learn from our past.
I also had the privilege of bumping into one of the employees a few times and she gave me a more in-depth experience and understanding of what it was like, so if you're able to get a guided tour or have someone to ask all the questions you are left with I urge you to grasp the opportunity.
No photos were allowed, hence the pictures of the building.
I highly recommend a visit to the Museum of Belize if you're in the neighborhood.
