Museum of Belize

Note: Google Map location is off, museum is located next to Belize Central Bank 400' further north along street. Great small museum within walking distance from cruise dock. Slavery display was enlightening supplement to my USA perspective - 400 years, whole country one big set of plantations harvesting wood, escaped slave towns, social hierarchy. Also Mayan display with artifact, local art display and insect collection. And nice clean restrooms! Small ($7) admission fee.

This is a wonderful museum full of variety of historical items, a gallery of paintings, and a collection birds and bugs. There is something for everyone.. and the children's room on the top floor is perfect for a 2 year old while parents take turns reading. There is WiFi at this museum and they also accept payment by Visa or MasterCard.

Kleines Museum im Gebäude eines ehemaligen Gefängisses mit Maya-Artefakten (wenig und nicht umwerfend) und Bildern und Informationstafeln zur Sklaverei (sehr bewegend und obwohl bekannt doch immer wieder schockierend, wie Menschen so wie heute die Hühner transportiert und gehandelt wurden..). Ein unbedingtes Muss ist das Museum sicher nicht, aber vielleicht das einzige wirkliche Highlight in Belize City.

Museum of Belize mieści się w budynku dawnego, XIX- wiecznego więzienia. W jego zbiorach znajdują się m.in. artefakty z czasów cywilizacji Majów, w tym ceramika, biżuteria i rzeźby, a także eksponaty związane z kolonialną przeszłością Belize. Muzeum posiada również kolekcję znaczków pocztowych i prac lokalnych artystów.
