We decided to visit the Museum of Broken Relationships after seeing it listed as a "hidden gem" in countless travel blogs and guides. Unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to the expectations.
While the concept is certainly intriguing, the execution fell flat. The museum consists mostly of item displays with long, text-heavy explanations that quickly become overwhelming. The sheer number of exhibits made it hard to stay engaged, and there was little variation — essentially just reading story after story. The lack of interactivity made it hard to connect with the pieces on a deeper level.
There was one attempt at an immersive experience: an old vinyl tape you could listen to, but that was about it. The rest felt static and uninviting. To make matters worse, the museum was very crowded, which made reading and absorbing the stories even more difficult.
Another issue was the authenticity of the stories. Many of them lacked names or any identifiers, which made some feel fabricated or at least disconnected from real people. It left us questioning how genuine the submissions were.
In the end, what was marketed as an emotional and reflective journey turned out to be a bit of a letdown — more of a reading room than a museum. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re specifically interested in the concept and don’t mind a non-interactive, text-heavy experience.
