The Basel Art Museum | Contemporary was opened in Basel in 1980 under the name Museum für Gegenwartskunst as the first public exhibition building in Europe dedicated exclusively to contemporary art production and practice. Here you find very futuristic works. Sometime hard to understand why this is art. But… maybe we will understand in the future.

Good collections, but the most interesting part is the building. A former paper mill built across a small stream. Great views from the terrace on top. Very friendly staff.

The staff were friendly and the building is very impressive and aesthetically pleasing. However, the exhibition was a little confusing as there was little to no explanation of any of the art pieces.

Great collections. However, 2 of the 4 floors were closed at the time of our visit. No photos allowed inside.

Great museum when I went to see a show by Theaster Gates, as well as a Hito Steyerl exhibition.
Also houses a permanent Beuys collection

Incredibly strange museum, not the best exhibits, very eerie atmosphere, made for an interesting experience but a little bit too weird in my opinion
