The Museum of Illusions features a novel variety of interactive rooms, displays and puzzles that explore the world of optical illusions. Overall, it was a fun and unique experience, and the museum attempts to strike a balance between being an "instagram" photo opportunity and providing some educational content. The museum is relatively small and the number of activities are fairly limited.
My family and I visited on a Sunday afternoon at 12pm, with timed-entry tickets. The entrance to the museum is small, next to a Subway sandwich shop, and when you enter you immediately find yourself in their gift store. The coat check was free, and you hang your coat in a small walk-in closet (best not to leave any personal belongings in there). At this time, although tickets were said to be sold out, the museum wasn't overly busy. We had plenty of time to look at each exhibit without excessive crowds, but it did get busier as it approached 1pm.
I generally knew what to expect at the Museum based on what had been shared on social media, particularly the more visually interesting exhibits: an upside down room, a small infinity mirrors room, a spiralling room...However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a magician roving through the museum and performing magic shows for small groups/audiences. He took the time to go through a fairly extensive series of tricks, with foam balls and playing cards, and did not seem rushed at all. It was very captivating, and you're not simply watching or observing, as you get to participate in the magic tricks too. Having a close-up magic experience was a real treat but I'm not exactly sure if magicians are a regular feature of the Museum.
I enjoyed my visit to the Museum of Illusions - despite some of the exhibits feeling a little gimmicky - and the performance by the close-up magician was really special. However, I'm not sure if I would be compelled to return as I've already seen and experienced all of the exhibits and I am not sure whether they will bring in any new special exhibits in the future.
