Was just a quick stop off at highest village in mainland Scotland. Has lovely cafe in mining museum and can do gold panning and tour. Car park next to it and an overspill just up hill if busy.
Lovely place with lovely views and interesting history.

What an amazing place to visit. First of all the staff were so welcoming. They were not stuffy but really nice people to be around. Stuart, our guide, a qualified geologist, was amazing. He brought the place to life. Without him, it was a hole in the ground. With him, it was an adventure into the past.

Beautiful village. I use to come here participating in the British Gold panning Championships. The village is a hidden gem. And the history is vast. So many stories to hear from the locals. Lead mining museum is also a great place to check out. When it is open of course. I believe the museum is only open for a certain period each year.

I can’t thank Nicky and John enough for their incredible hospitality at the Lead Mining Museum. Their kindness and generosity were second to none — from the moment I arrived, they made me feel welcome and genuinely cared for. As someone walking across the country, their warmth gave me a real lift just when I needed it most. It’s rare to meet people so generous with their time and spirit. A true highlight of the journey — thank you both!

Great place to visit. The museum display is well presented and very informative. The extra to book a tour lasting about 1½hr. is well worth it. Our guide was very well informed and communicated well with our group of 6.

A fantastic vist. The museum was good in itself but the guided trip to the mine was superb. The new guide was brilliant at his job: informative, knowledgeable and engaging. Recommended!

Yelp
Situated in Wanlockhead, the Scotland's highest village, this museum gives a taste of what life used to be like for many of the poor souls who used to mine lead deep deep under the ground. With opportunities to actually go into a now disused mine - at least a little way - and also to see the sorts of accomodation that families used to live in this is a fantastically interesting museum.
Come the Christmas season, they even stick Santa down the mine and children can visit him in his 'grotto' ... just mind you head!
Attached to the museum is the usual gift shop where all manner of locally crafted goods can be purchased along with samples of some of the areas mineral wealth can be seen. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Yelp
I have visited Wanlockhead and the mining museum twice now and both times came away with a greater understanding and appreciation for the people that mined in that place. The FIRST public library in Scotland! Mining cooperatives rather than typical poor working conditions.
The Museum is very interesting and the mine tour is highly informative. The guide when I took the tour was great. The valley is beautiful.
