A Dinosaur Lover's Dream: The Museum of the Rockies The Museum of the Rockies is a perfect activity for anyone visiting Bozeman, especially if you’re short on time. This beautiful museum is a must-see for dinosaur lovers, featuring a vast collection of impressive, well-maintained dinosaur skeletons and engaging exhibits. Beyond the incredible dinosaur displays, the museum also offers a variety of other attractions. You can relax and enjoy a show at the comfortable, small planetarium for a nominal price. Don't forget to visit the period house located outside—it's a real walk back in time! The museum also features a nice-sized gift shop and a small cafe. With its amazing, rotating exhibits (like the past Marvel Comics display), there is always something new to see. It’s a highly recommended and educational experience for all ages, offering a great way to learn and explore through real skeletons, sculptures, photos, and movies.

Absolutely loved our visit to the Museum of the Rockies! The exhibits are fascinating and beautifully curated — especially the incredible dinosaur collection. There’s so much to see and learn for both kids and adults, and everything is presented in a way that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the museum itself is clean, well-organized, and easy to explore. Definitely a must-visit stop in Montana

Google
Perfect activity when you don’t have a lot of time in Bozeman! This is a beautiful museum that features a lot of dinosaurs, dinosaur interactions and information. If you like BIG dinosaur skeletons, this is your place. There is also a very comfortable small planetarium that is a perfect place to relax after touring the museum with a variety of good shows and a very nominal price. Please DON’T forget the period house that is located outside! It is a real walk back in time! There is a very nice sized gift shop and a small cafe there as well.

Museum of the Rockies is such a cool place to explore! If you’re into dinosaur bones, this is the place to be. Their exhibits are some of the most impressive and well-maintained I’ve ever seen. I also love that they feature rotating exhibits — about a year ago, I caught the Marvel Comics one, and it was amazing! Definitely a must-visit if you’re looking for things to do in Bozeman.

Google
Great museum of natural history as well as a kids area for Yellowstone. Wonderful addition having the Jane Goodall exhibit and a poignant time visiting with her recent passing but the area is so well done. Great visit for natural history!

Google
There is much to explore at this museum. During our first visit, we focused on Sue, the enormous T-Rex fossil. On this visit, Jane Goodall's chimpanzee studies in Gombe were the focus. I had intended to walk the grounds of the historic farm buildings during peak autumn beauty, but was disappointed to discover that this area closes at the end of summer.

We visited Museum of the Rockies this time during a remodel, so we have less photos to share. We also need to crop ourselves out of the dinosaur pictures, so parts will be missing. That said - Museum of the Rockies is a MUST if you are heading to or from any nearby National Parks or other historic sites. The museum has several rooms to visit and learn about different dinosaurs, times periods, etc. There’s a room with a bench and a movie screen where kids can press play and learn. The t-rex has an upstairs viewing area. The top floor has a children’s museum with interactive displays, bathrooms, and low key learning stations. There’s a planetarium with daily shows on the main floor just inside the doors. They usually offer two different kinds of shows per day. Don’t be late. The doors are locked to provide everyone inside a fantastic show. The gift shop will require its own chunk of time so you can peruse. They have the expected t-shirts and sweatshirts, but also have a great selection of stones to choose from - as well as magnets, toys, mugs, books, etc. If you can afford to become a member of the museum, they offer after hours events and fundraisers. The last time we were there, the museum was hosting an after hours event for members. Becoming a member is well worth the investment. The museum is a great place to take young children. The Museum of the Rockies was the beginning of a lifelong love of dinosaurs and paleontology for one family member who first visited it as a toddler. The museum has an elevator to make it easy to get to the kid’s floor with little ones in tow. The parking lot is big - and the views of the mountains are breathtaking. There’s a walking path outside and a safe area you can walk your dogs.

Google
After years of wanting to see this, we finally did. The museum is great for families to visit with various interactive exhibits for kids. I would say 90% of the museum pertains to dinosaur and other fossils but also has information and artifacts from the area in general. There is a homesteaders house you get to go through as part of the admission.

Yelp
We had such a great time at the Museum of the Rockies! It's an amazing place for kids, especially if they love dinosaurs. The dinosaur exhibits are huge, detailed, and seriously impressive. We also really enjoyed the sections about Montana's history and all the older artifacts--they were fun to explore and made the museum feel like a walk through time. We happened to visit during the Jane Goodall experience, and it was such an unexpected bonus. We learned so much about her life and the chimps she worked with. The interactive parts were especially fun, and we even learned how to "speak" in chimp, which my kids thought was hilarious. Great spot for a few hours with the kids.

Yelp
**November 2025: Sunday Morning Visit** I had heard great things about the Musuem of the Rockies and since it was open on Sunday morning my mom and I decided to check it out. This museum has a really impressive collection of dinosaur fossils especially triceratops and t-rexs! I learned so much and while some of the recreations of the dinosaurs were pretty scary because of the size of the creatures it's still fascinating. During my visit they also had a Dr. Jane Goodall exhibit sharing her upbringing and dedication to learning about chimps. It was quite informative and they had a couple of interactive activities to learn about the different chimp sounds. Thre was another area that shared artifacts regarding Montana's history and a third floor for kids to play. Overall, I think if you're looking for an indoor activity the Musuem of the Rockies would be a good choice.

Yelp
My husband is a dinosaur fanatic. It's funny because I'll ask a question about a dinosaur and he'll go into it like an 8 year old who needs to tell you this information or it'll burn through his body. He needs to release it! When he found out that the Museum of the Rockies was where they do a lot of T. Rex research (he's been on a T. Rex kick ever since they found that there actually might be a different species of tyrannosaurus and that "juvenile" fossils might actually be this different species) he was extremely excited to visit. Also, this museum has a display of egg nests that is pretty unique and he really wanted to see that. This isn't the biggest museum in the world and it does focus on learning a lot more than glitz and glamour but I think I like it because of that. There was a large focus on dinosaurs and some on other things and if you have a dino nerd in your life, this is the place to be. We enjoyed some of the old timey Montana things and the Jane Goodall exhibit that they have going on right now. Great place to spend some time if you're into this sort of thing.

Yelp
Really awesome exhibits on dinosaurs. Probably a bit too high a level to appreciate everything shown for kids under 8/9/10 as there is a lot of text explaining what you are seeing, however there is enough the young ones can comprehend, especially the upstairs exhibit explaining what they can see in Yellowstone. Definitely a great place to visit BEFORE heading into the park. If you are doing it at the end of a Yellowstone trip it is not a problem though as it is a great place to burn time if you are waiting fora late flight out of the Bozeman airport! The docents (volunteers) are very knowledgeable too and extremely friendly.

Yelp
Montana is famous for its dinosaur fossils, and many dinosaur bones on display elsewhere were excavated in Montana. This museum with its extensive collection of genuine dinosaur bones as well as some reconstructed bones, was a pleasure to check out while visiting Bozeman, and definitely worth checking out if you have any interest in prehistory. There's even a section where you can observe paleontologists cleaning up excavated fossils in real time in their laboratory on display through glass. The paleontologists are good about coming out to answer questions for observers. Dinosaurs aren't your thing, that's okay - the museum offers some cool colonial and post-colonial artifacts and displays, including art, weaponry from the American Revolution era, buggies, and the Tinsley House, or Living History Farm - a restored homestead where you might get to interact with actors playing the part of 19th century Montana homesteaders, and explore the home and farm inside and out. I found this particularly enjoyable! We did not check out the auditorium shows, including the planetarium show (which is a ticket add-on), but shows are also available throughout your visit. Throughout the year they have a couple of changing exhibits. Currently they have an exhibit titled: "Dragons, unicorns, and Mermaids: Mythic Creatures," that explores the historic development of various mythic lore. If visiting Bozeman for the first time, this is an activity you don't want to miss!

Yelp
Fun for everyone! Amazing dinosaur collection! Organized a never too crowded. Worth the trip for sure!

Yelp
Cool sights! The family enjoyed our time there we stayed probably about an hour and was able to see everything there was to see at the time.
google avatar

Yelp
Come for the dinosaurs, stay for the other interesting exhibits. The sheer number of fossils and the interesting education about prehistoric times are reason enough to visit this museum. Trust me: You don't need to be a dino-obsessed kid to enjoy the Hall of Giants, Hall of Horns & Teeth, or Tyrant Kings. After your deep dive into all things paleontology, check out the cultural exhibitions about Yellowstone, natives to the land, and mining. While the temporary exhibit on mermaids and the like wasn't especially compelling to me, I was pleasantly surprised by the seasonal Living History Farm. It's fun to travel back in time and imagine a simpler, yet much harder daily life. This is a perfect way to spend a rainy or cold afternoon while visiting Bozeman.

Yelp
This is a pretty neat place. I've been here three times in the last two years, and overall it's been great. Obviously the Montana found Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton is epic and is the main draw here. In addition they have TONS of other skulls and skeletons of other dinosaurs too, and they are all pretty dang interesting. Prices seem a little high, but the family membership is a good option, especially with the special pass that allows you to visit other museums for free, as long as they are over 90 miles from your home and home museum. Just last year they added separate fees of $3 for the planetarium, which is a little disappointing, but I guess it's the way it is nowadays with bidenomics. But for me the planetarium is the main draw. The shows are really cool, and fun to watch. I definitely recommend doing the shows there, even if it costs extra. They do have a really cool huge kids play area that is for exploring/building/learning, and it changes a lot. The one now is on germs and viruses, which aligns perfectly with what my 6 year old is studying in her homeschool. Pretty neat. The bonus is that they did let my family AND my extended family in when I bought a family membership, which normally they don't. Good stuff. This place is a definite must see if you haven't been here.

Yelp
Great spot to visit! Well organized with lots of great displays. Very clean and well kept.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place....if you're a dinosaur geek, this is a great place for you and your kids to visit. It only takes about 45-60 minutes to walk through, but it's worth every minute. I especially loved Big Mike sitting out front.

Yelp
A very highly rated tourist attraction in Bozeman. It's definitely mainly for kids, but I found it so interesting. They have so many dinosaur fossils, it's actually hard to believe they have so many. You can learn so much about the fossils, it's a really interesting. I spent about 2 hours here. Tickets are $18 for adults and that includes the 25 minute movie they have about the stars as well.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
We saw a sign for this museum on the way into town, and decided to give it a try. What a great museum! So many fossils, including skulls of a few species ranging from baby to juvenile to adult. Well laid out, and lots of very interesting details, especially about the formation and composition of the local terrain. This was interesting to us, as we are not from the area and look upon the mountains with a mixture of puzzlement and wonder. A small place with a lot to see and learn about. We were very happy with our visit, stayed longer than anticipated, and so glad we stopped in.
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
We enjoyed our visit to this museum, especially the living history of the house, garden, blacksmith behind the museum. It's a nice place to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Not a huge museum, but very well curated with a ton of great exhibits. A lot to read and see first hand all ages, some exhibits allow for interactive play or exploration. From dinosaurs to life decades ago developing the area there, this museum was surprisingly delightful! Next to the museum is an old log home that they've skillfully recreated from settlers days. Very interesting! Gorgeous gardens around the home in the summer.
google avatar

Yelp
So. Many. Bones. Super cool! And planetarium is included- very enjoyable. Can't ski cuz of a torn ACL? This a wonderful distraction.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Very cool and informative museum. There are many exhibits to explore and honestly, I could have spent at least 4-5 hours reading through all the exhibits. We got through about 90% of the dinosaur exhibit and we spent about 90 minutes there. We had to cut our visit short because of our flight time. When we begrudgingly had to leave, we walked through a Native Museum exhibit and it looked very interesting as well. I would recommend blocking out a good portion of the day to explore all exhibits in this museum!
google avatar

Yelp
My mind is blown. This place is incredible. Everything was great. I had so much fun and learn so much. I highly recommended this place.
google avatar

Yelp
It was much more than dinosaurs! They were cool but they have antique cars, items used in decades past and replicas of how they lived in different times. Nice gift shop and friendly employees.

Yelp
So I had a free day in Bozeman, and it was an ugly rainy, windy day, and a perfect day to spend in the museum! Honestly, I would have made time to come here any way! I love museums, especially ones with dinosaurs! There is ample parking and the prices for admission was totally reasonable! For a non-member adult, the entry is $16.50. Let me tell you, this museum is a great way to spend the day!!! It's small enough so you're not overwhelmed, but big enough so you can spend about half a day here. The exhibits are pretty great! If you're into dinosaurs, this is the place for you! Tons of history and information in the Montana, Wyoming area regarding fossils and pre-historic creatures! There were also sections regarding the Native American history and pioneering Americans. I was kind of glad I was alone, I can take my time and revisit the exhibits as I pleased. The planetarium is also not to be missed! It's a great diversion from the exhibits and tons of great information on it. I sat through the Montana Skies presentation, I should have also sat through The Big Astronomy presentation, but I didn't realize there were 2 options. I would highly recommend visiting the Museum of the Rockies!

Yelp
This was an amazing experience visiting the Museum of the Rockies. The best exhibit and collection of fossils I have ever seen. I highly recommend for all ages. The Tinsley House is walk into the past. Where you see how homesteading was for a large family. It is open to walk around and view freely.

Yelp
On a recent trip to visit family in Montana, I thought it would be fun to check out the Dinosaur museum. Boy were we surprised! There was also a DaVinci exhibit and a Planetarium, all for the adult price of $23! We decided to begin with the DeVinci exhibit. We learned all kinds of information about DeVinci and his inventions- many things I had never heard! Very enlightening. The exhibit also included hands on items. Next we went to the Planetarium to see Big Sky Under the Stars. Very nice! With a live narrator, it was really cool to see & hear about the constellations! Last, but definitely not least, we went to the dinosaur exhibit. Wow oh wow! I was amazed at the real bones and fossils! Items are labeled with a number and a "r" for replica or "b" for bones. We were shocked at all the bones! There were also many pictures of archeologists by the bones, when they were originally found. Absolutely amazing! We also learned that Dino bones have been found in all but five of the Montana states. Intriguing for sure! We lost track of time and had to speed through the last of the exhibit as we had other plans We spent five hours in all, but could have easily stayed there for seven! I definitely recommend going to the Museum of the Rockies. Just make sure you plan enough time to see everything!

Ashley F.

Yelp
We took our kids (7 and 3) here on spring break 2024. They loved it! We especially loved how the museum approached children with play - the area with the hands-on items was truly a treat for them, especially since we were traveling and away from our toys and things. We will be back for sure.

John R.

Yelp
Fun place interesting exhibits worth the time to get there. Particularly for children!!

Abraham G.

Yelp
This museum is housed in a beautiful modern structure and offers plenty of free parking. The admission fees are quite fair, and there are numerous discounts. Unfortunately, however, the museum is largely unfocused. It has all of the characteristics of a museum designed and curated by multiple constituencies, including the proximate university (with which it is somewhat affiliated) as well as myriad diverse interests. The most comprehensive holdings have to do with paleontology, specifically eras (and artifacts) related to dinosaurs. Too grownup for children and too superficial for adults, it provides minimum useful and interesting information. Before going, I strongly suggest that you determine the purpose of your visit (and the age groups of those who will be attending). Whatever these are, I'm afraid that the museum may miss the mark.

Marge21 R.

Yelp
If you're thinking about things to do while in Bozeman, I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum. Plenty of parking too.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
When I was on TripAdvisor doing research on this place the expected time spent was 3-4 hours which I thought was insane for a museum, but it just told me just how much there was here to see. If you plan on coming here I'd recommend blocking an entire half day to really enjoy everything that MOR has to offer. The admission prices are as followed: - Adult (ages 18-64): $16.50 - Senior (ages 65+): $15.50 - Youth (ages 5-17): $10.50 - Child (ages 4 & under): Free - Members (Free) - MSU Students, Faculty, Staff, & Alumni (with valid ID): $12 Note that you can get $1.50 off if you are a AAA member! I started off at the very beginning of time at the museum to see how things progressed over time. There were so many artifacts and pieces of information regarding how things were billions and millions of years ago. I also got to see tons of dinosaur fossils and replicas of bones and dinosaurs themselves. I learned that the most dinosaur fossils were found in Montana and they have found skeletons all over the state. The museum goes through the process of finding potential dinosaur fossil spots in the state, digging them up, wrapping and transporting them, and then carefully removing the rock surrounding the fossils which was just so fascinating. After all the dinosaur stuff there was a bit about Native American life in the Rockies which had a lot of information about how they lived and their culture. After this they had a section about life in Yellowstone National Park since it became the world's first in 1872 and its growth in the number of visitors. Then at the end there was an exhibit about vikings! They also have the Taylor planetarium where you go into a room and sit in a seat that looks up toward the dome ceiling. They have shows every hour and I loved the first one so much (VOYAGER: The Never-Ending Journey) that I went back again a couple hours later to catch another one (Northern European Skies). If you have time for a show I highly recommend it! In total I spent a little more than 3 hours but if I took even more time to read everything I could totally see it being 4 or even 5 hours. This is one of the best museums I've ever visited and I highly recommend coming here!

Yelp
I have wanted to go to the Museum of the Rockies since reading books by the then curator of the museum, Jack Horner. His ground-breaking research revealed insights into the growth and social behavior of dinosaurs was fascinating and had me hooked. The museum is wonderful. It is recognized as a world-class cultural and natural history museum and research facility. The results of that research is shown in the exhibitions. You want to go to the museum's website to plan your visit. They have everything you need to know and current exhibits that change so check dates. There are cultural and natural history exhibits, planetarium shows, educational programs and camps, insightful lectures, benefit events, and the museum store should not be missed!. There was some kerfuffle between the museum and Horner-for which I was fully on Team Horner. But it seems to have been solved and, even though Horner is retired from his position of curator of the museum, they have put someone he mentored to the position. Let's hope the museum continues to honor Hornet's work into the future. Suggestions: Go to the Museum of the Rockies website to plan your trip. Decide if there is a special exhibit you want to see and check the dates. Stay overnight. There is a nice RV park nearby and hotels/motels in town. It's hard to see everything in one day. But if you must take one day-choose the exhibits you want to see the most.

Yelp
The dinosaur collection is what the Museum of the Rockies is best known for. There is a t-rex model right at the entrance, which represents the t-rex that was found in Montana that should be in this museum but ended up in Washington DC. I immediately headed for the Siebel Dinosaur Complex as soon as I bought my ticket. It did not disappoint. It has an extensive collection of dinosaur bones and fossils. The triceratops collection is unparalleled. The t-rex is impressive, as well as the collection of t-rex skulls. The only thing missing is one of the really huge plan eating dinosaurs like a Titanosaur. But that's a minor quibble. The displays also have so much information about dinosaurs. I learned more details about how dinosaurs are related to birds than at any other museum I have been to. But the fun does not stop with the dinosaurs. There is also an exhibit on the history of life in the Rockies, starting with the Native Americans. I also saw an entertaining show at the planetarium. And my trip to the museum ended with a cool Viking exhibit. The Museum of the Rockies is definitely a 5 star museum, well worth making a trip to visit.

Yelp
We had such a good family day at MOR. Vikings, Dinosaurs and more. It is a beautiful museum. We started off going through the dinosaur sections. We have a early elementary daughter, who loved it. After walking through once, we walked back through and looked at the exhibits that most interested her. That took us about two hours. We also spent about 20 minutes in the Yellowstone section. It is a nicely laid out historical representation of the area. The Viking section was interesting to me since it is part of my heritage. To talk to my daughter about it was fun - it was her first time seeing anything like what they had on display. We finished up with watching the Voyager mission video that was 20~ minutes. They showed it, as well as several other videos in the planetarium. We all enjoyed it. A line forms early, so you will need to plan ahead if you want to see the videos as there is limited seating. We will be back.
google avatar

Viviana M.

Yelp
Lots of interesting things to see. The highlight of course was the dinosaur exhibit! The volunteer that was in one of labs was kind enough to come out and talk to us about the dinosaur piece he was working on. He seemed very passionate about his work. I don't recall his name Federico maybe but I remember he said he was from Argentina. He should be an employee not a volunteer! We are visiting from San Diego and really enjoyed the museum.

Yelp
An awesome destination, the modern physical environment is inviting and well set up, has a Planetarium and kids interaction area, but the crown jewel is the fossil collections!!!' Massive skulls to microscopic creatures it is truly heroic in size, content and educational content!!! Make time if you can, I'd suggest a whole day

Yelp
I love a good museum, & am so embarrassed that my first visit was yesterday (for the first annual free "Montana Day" for Montana residents, partially funded by U.S. Bank, Bozeman)--after living in Montana for nearly 10 years, & 4 in Bozeman! If you are curious about dinosaurs in particular, this museum is the definition of "world class"! The "horns & teeth" gallery is filled with gorgeous & frightful specimens, which is the essence of "the sublime": Terrifying & so beautiful, you cannot stop staring at them! Poignant, too...as you will see when you visit. I can't exactly explain this, but this amazing collection of dinosaur skeletons & fossilized remains are...comforting. After wandering through the entire museum complex, watching a video featuring Alex Ross (Marvel Universe graphic/comic book artist, etc.), & taking in a spectacular experience in the planetarium about black holes, I know the dinosaurs have once again stolen my heart, as they did when I was a child: I'm buying a membership just to be able to visit them, to sit & ponder their prior rule on this Earth. Montana is "the last best place", it is "big Sky country", & it is an incredible treasure trove full of dinosaur specimens: Who knows what they might excavate next!

Yelp
This is a nice museum and larger than you might expect. The dinosaur exhibits are quite extensive, and there is a nice variety of Yellowstone, mythical creatures, and native american exhibits along with a planetarium.

Yelp
The living farm was the best part. We did have hung out there all day. Even though it's small, it's so cool.

Yelp
Loads of history and great information. We really enjoyed our time here. Would definitely go back again

Yelp
We are a military family mid move. We always make road trips of our moves, especially cross country. This was a must stop for us, as we have a dino living future paleontologist on our hands. This museum was perfect for us! We are a homeschool family, just finished a paleontology science unit, and have learned a lot about Native American tribes in our history. This museum was so perfect for both of those! The fossils and dinosaurs blew me away. I have seen plenty of natural history museums with replicas and things, but to see actual fossils and of dinosaurs local to the area, it was surreal! The Native American exhibit was great! We walked through and got to compare things from then and now. I was baby wearing our 5 month old and it was cool to see the cradle boards they used to use. My daughter loved looking at all the bead work and pretty dresses. It was all put together so well! Then to top it all off, upstairs was a great playroom for the kids to explore Yellowstone. Our 2, 5, and 8 year olds had a blast. Great way for them to get hands on and get energy out while learning about the area! Was happy with everything! We went on a Saturday, it wasn't too busy, price is just right, exhibits were fantastic! This was great for our entire family!

Yelp
Great museum for anyone interested in the history of the Rockies, Yellowstone, and all who once called the lands home. The highlight is the vast collection of dinosaur fossils excavated from Montana. You'll learn after viewing the exhibits why Montana is the perfect landscape for excavating dinosaur remains. Don't let the great Dino exhibits distract you from other great facts and exhibits. The wing dedicated to the tribal people and natives of the Rockies was actually my favorite. The items in which they used to survive the harsh climates and environment were on display in addition to facts and tidbits about their cultures. Definitely visit if you are in Bozeman. I'd say to dedicate 3-4 hours if you plan on seeing everything. The price makes it an affordable and family friendly outing.
google avatar

Shawn P.

Yelp
Visitors with a interest in dinosaurs will enjoy this museum, with its focus on all things prehistoric. Exhibits have a distinctly Montana focus, and help to highlight how the land and its inhabitants developed. There are small but interesting exhibits on local Native American peoples and the settlement of the area. While I was there, there was a separate exhibit on Da Vinci as well.

Jaclyn H.

Yelp
A solid experience overall, met expectations with a few minor areas for improvement. Some exhibits aren't open during the week.
google avatar

Steve O.

Yelp
Part of Montana State University, this is a beautiful place. The most extensive triceratops collection in the world. Lots of exhibits and fossils from the area. Planetarium and living history farm are included with admission, they are both excellent. Food truck in front is also run by the University.
google avatar

Yelp
It was alright. I was very excited when I looked it up but it just wasn't the best thing to do in town for me. I'm not sure why it wasn't as great as I read it would be. Yes, there is a lot of cool and interesting information and artifacts I just want intrigued by it. TBH I was falling asleep on that planetarium show and usually I'm fascinated by the science and information. One of the areas of the museum was closed and there were children unattended, so while I was reading or looking the children just walked by or stood in front that just made the experience less pleasant. My favorite part was the Yellowstone information and artifacts of the Native Cultures.

Yelp
I drove to Bozeman just to see the star in concert: Tyrannosaurus rex. He's the reason that everyone comes to this museum and, for me, the performance was worth the ticket price. Standing 12' high and 38' long, he's 60% original bones and only 40% reconstructed elements. Considering his age, he's holding up better than seniors half his age and he knows how to command the stage. He's got a back up act all around him in this large black room, the most well known being the line up of triceratops skulls lining a nearby wall. Two full triceratops skeletons, a large subadult and juvenile, are jealously waiting for attention in the direct shadow of Mr. Rex. There's a lot more going on in this boneyard so this museum is a must-see if you're in this part of Montana.

Yelp
Super cool to see. Stopped by while visiting my niece in college for parents' weekend. They do fun activities for kids. Would highly recommend

Yelp
You can easily spend several hours here! The museum is really impressive and well kept. I was amazed by all the life-like dinosaur fossils (a mix of replica and real bones) found all across the state of Montana. I really enjoyed the savage ancient seas exhibition, which has the largest turtle ever lived, Archelon. Overall, a must visit for all ages!

Yelp
Had heard great things, knew it was a Smithsonian affiliate and even so, it exceeded our wildest expectations! It's really several museums in one place. We are not particularly dinosaur nuts, but understood that the vast majority of items in the exhibits were found locally. The pieces are beautifully displayed and if you aren't awed almost immediately, you should leave and spend your time somewhere else. The narrative is easy to read and informative. We learned so much and we weren't even reading everything! Not long ago I took a class on dinosaurs and the instructor spoke of the advances in technology that allow study of dinosaur bones and DNA discovering that these were in some cases colorful and even feathered creatures, not the just dark gray and green as depicted in movies. I was delighted to see this in one of the displays! The museum also has a planetarium and we saw a thrilling show of the Northern Lights. This is not just a typical flat display just shown on a dome. The men who created this had to wait for advances in digital cameras and equipment to capture the sky in a way that it could even be projected onto a dome to to replicate what you'd see if you were outside watching! After that it took them months, often in temps near minus 40 degrees. Just spectacular! Other exhibits are anything but shabby. We saw a cool on on Vikings, as well as one on Native Americans and more. The admission is no more anywhere else but they also give discounts for veterans, AAA, seniors and youth. Parking was free and adjacent the building. We were too late in the season to see the outdoor "farm". This is an amazing facility! In you are in the area DO NOT MISS IT!

Yelp
this is a really nice museum even though it's kind of all over the place. It's primarily a natural history museum but it also has some cultural stuff particularly that of the native Indian tribes that once populated the area. To further add to its hodgepodge status it also has a small planetarium showing various presentations throughout the day. without a doubt the dinosaur exhibit alone was well worth the price of admission. I don't know if I've ever seen a more comprehensive collection of dinosaur fossils. And the fact that they were all found in Montana is pretty remarkable. On top of that they also have later era fossils such as a mammoth. It's also just large enough for a small child to be able to handle. Without a doubt an absolute must see regardless of age.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon, and I've been visiting this museum for years. The staples of the history of the old west and the dinosaur complex are phenomenal. It doesn't matter how many times I've visited I still linger for hours. The rotating exhibits and the seasonal exhibits are also amazing, from the homestead house to the visiting attractions. Well worth the stop no matter if you're local or a tourist. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Super wow. Really a nicely thought out museum with superb dinosaurs and some excellent history. I can't imagine a bored child here. I would have s&$*% as a kid to have been able to see this many T-Rex's. Even if this is a few miles out of your way and even if you don't love dinos that much, you deserve to treat yourself to this well done museum.
