Museum of the Second World War

This museum was the highlight of my visit to Gdansk! It was such a powerful lesson in history and a beautiful memorial to all those who lived and died through World War 2. I paid for the guided audio tour and I highly recommend it if you really want to make the most of your visit. I was very moved and left the museum with so much admiration for what Poland weht through in the war. One of the best museum experiences of my life.

Another incredible museum in Poland. The exhibits are fantastic and immersive particularly the Warsaw street. I would recommend the audio guide though there is enough information boards without it. The layout of the foyer is not very clear about where to buy tickets, where to get the audio guide, where to get into the exhibits - it is all separate queues and if busy can take time. We went on the free weekday and it was very busy and we had to queue to get in for a long time. However I think this is better because it means the exhibits are not as crowded.

This museum is truly impressive. Each room is carefully designed and beautifully put together, creating a powerful and immersive atmosphere. When we arrived, the line was quite long, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it moved very quickly. The story told through the informational plaques is very well structured and engaging. Whether you are a history enthusiast or learning about these topics for the first time, you are guaranteed to leave with valuable insights. It’s also very kid-friendly, as the interactive tablets feature colorful and informative videos that make the experience both educational and engaging. Every aspect of the totalitarian regimes is thoroughly covered and clearly explained. I truly believe this museum is an important place to visit. Additionally, on the first floor there is a free archaeological exhibition 🤩

The Museum of the Second World War is an absolute must-visit. It’s a beautifully curated space that balances profound, moving exhibits with fascinating historical facts. The depth of information is incredible, offering a poignant and educational experience that stays with you long after you leave. Highly recommended!

The building itself is very beautiful. Fishy you need to the basement to buy tickets. Very well layed out and well organised, easy to navigate between rooms. The content is rich and makes people emotional. I definitely learnt a lot about WW2 here.

Visiting this museum was an incredibly powerful experience for me. At times, it was so emotional that I felt close to tears. The exhibitions are exceptionally well curated — thoughtful, immersive, and deeply authentic. They help you understand the historical events not only through facts, but also through personal stories and powerful context. The museum is modern, well organized, and truly moving. If you want to genuinely feel and understand history, not just read about it, I highly recommend visiting.

This is worth a visit from two perspectives. Firstly it shows a story of second world war in straight and honest way. It showed what lead to war - I think it would open eyes too some people. And secondly - architecturally it's a lovely building, the way it's designed internally really shows someone poured their heart and soul in it. Highly recommended for adults and kids above 15. Those below this age might avoid some rooms.

TLDR: Best museum ever. Takes at least 5 hours to visit, can easily be a whole day trip. Has 17 perfectly designed rooms. Brutal, gigantic, meticulously set up. Stories are shocking, and imagery ranges and covers all there is: pre-war tensions, early, mid, and late war battles, how life revolved in Poland mostly during WWII, but it covers the whole of Europe as well. So many details were added, and efforts were phenomenal to add layers to this museum, hardly ever seen. There are real-sized props that blow your mind, like a full-size street of Poland before the war, with shop windows filled with time-relevant merchandise and flyers. There is a children's room with a classroom from that age, a school diary, and mark notes from one of the children. But each room has so much to offer, filled with lots of interactive monitors with stories, video testimonials, etc. At one point, there is an Enigma device to encode and decode any word you wish, very well made. Several images and stories are shocking, sad, and utterly depressing. It does take a good stomach to go through all of this, especially through the terror section with most of the crimes described in detail, followed by uncensored grave diggings, etc. We came here two times in two days. The first day, we spent 2.5 hours and covered only half of the museum. The next day, we spent another three hours here. It could've been more, but there's only so much you can actually read about this topic. It ends with a perfect modern-day video showcasing ongoing worldwide conflicts, reminding us that war books are still being written. P.S. audio guide is for sure worth it.

Spent 6 hours here - I found this place incredibly moving. I highly recommend getting the audio in English. Even though there is English on the photos and exhibit, the audio knew exactly where you were in the building, I would tell you which way to turn and gave much more context to the exhibits. It really drove home the fact that Poland was Ground Zero for World War II, and lost more civilians then any other country. The United States was mentioned just in passing, as ending the war in the Pacific by dropping nuclear bombs. It was a great learning experience to really appreciate the devastation to Poland and the rest of Europe. This museum was a highlight of our visit to Poland.

Amazing security, very friendly and assisting. The museums architecture also makes the museum feel more alive, the exhibitions are very informative as well.

Fantastic museum with plenty of information to keep visitors engaged for several hours.
