The Museum of the Vine and Wine of Cafayate is an impressive tribute to the art of wine-making, with a special focus on wine in the Salta region. More than simply a collection of equipment and information about wine, the exhibit is saturated with the passion and dedication of the winegrowers and drinkers. It paints a story of life and beauty through the growth of the vines, the harvesting of grapes and their transformation into wine. Your entry to the museum also includes a taste of a local wine at the end, which is a lovely touch having spent the time to learn how the wines are made! The only criticism that might be made of the museum is that it's quite text-heavy, even though the content is artfully written and presented. For me, this wasn't an issue and I loved how it was done. A visit to this museum is exceptionally worthwhile for anyone visiting Cafayate and enjoying everything else it has to offer!

We have visited many wine museums around the world, and this one stands out. Very detailed description of everything surrounding the vines and the wines, especially liked the discussion around atmospheric conditions in the region, and the impact on water quality the soil. Highly recommended.

The 8000 peso entry fee is worth the cost but I’m into my wines (new world mostly) so I was curious and interested to learn about the Argentinian wine history. I’d learned from my LP guidebook that Cafayate is Argentinas premier wine growing area so I ended up reading practically every paragraph or story posted in English around the passages of the well documented museum. Congratulations to the people who made the museum possible.

I hadn't intended to go here before I arrived as to be honest I hadn't seen mention of it. Its a must see during your visit, a really nice exhibition. Plus you get a tasting included in the (very modest) ticket price. Mine was done by a very friendly lady who tried very hard despite my poor Spanish.

The museum is full of poetic descriptions of wines, but no facts of different wine varieties.

Great start for your time in Cafayate. You'll find a detailed script along the self-guided visit, with an English version on the side. The cost for nationals is around a dollar, while a dollar & a half for foreign visitors. There's a wine bar in the premises, of course. From here, you'll make the most of your wine tasting in the area and I believe you'll also judge your purchases as a connoisseur.
