Amazing museum. Not very big but worth visiting. Specially the tour is highly recommend. They give it in both languages, English and Dutch. The museum staffs are very friendly. There are a lot of collection on musical items, so if you are interested it can take you half a day easily to have all reasonably covered. I specially liked the exposition part. Lot to see and learn.

A truly charming and unique museum! 🎶 The highlight was definitely the guided tour. Our guide was fantastic: knowledgeable, funny, and clearly passionate about the instruments. Hearing the clocks, organs, and music boxes come to life was magical! The museum is beautifully set in an old church, and there are plenty of interactive exhibits for both kids and adults. Everything is well organized, and the staff are super friendly. It’s right in the city center, easy to reach, and there’s a cozy café for a break after exploring. Highly recommend spending at least a couple of hours here. It’s joyful experience full of music and history!

Fantastic museum! Do take the tour as you get to see many more of the music boxes in action this way. After or before the tour you can wander around on your own. Most tours are in Dutch and English as are most signs. They also have a nice cafe next to the gift shop.

Wonderful collection of autoplaying music equipments including huge ones like organs, small ones like music boxes, classical ones like piano and even an equipment with three violins. There are also rooms showing the mechanical mechanism on how the autoplaying works. Very interesting museum, I will visit again and take my family too.

Beautiful museum that has several objects on display that concern "street music". Various sizes for different types, with even automatic devices that make the visit fun!

Amazing museum filled with playing instruments sized from very small and beautiful to absolutely enormous ballroom machines. We had a guided tour which I recommend to get to know history behind the machines and how they were used. There’s a little suprise for Johnny Cash fans. You can spend there half an hour or two hours if you want to explore other exibitions.

This was such a cool museum, especially for music lovers who enjoy the more unique aspects of musical instruments / machines! It definitely stands out since it is such a specific, quirky type of subject, and this was a perfect way to end my stay in the Netherlands after frequenting more traditional museums. It definitely shows that craving to have music in every shape, way, and form. The guided tour was fabulous. I thank my tour guide at noon on August 10, 2025, who translated to English only for me at first!). He also had a great dry sense of humor. After the tour, I walked around more and read many of the placards. It's amazing to see what people could do technologically speaking...all for the benefit of bringing great spirit and music into this world. It's beautiful to think that even though the creators of these mechanisms are long gone, they seem to come back to life every time a tune from their design is played.

When I planned visit to Utrecht, this museum was one that I wanted to visit. Museum is in old church. For now is there museum. Exhibition shows music machines. I suggest take the guided tour, get more information and you actually head the sound what these machines make. There is also small shop and cafe.

Yelp
Never quite seen so many music makers There is a good kids attraction where they can do a scavenger hunt There is a guided tour that looks interesting Took about one hour for us to go through and feel like we were able to see everything

Yelp
I seriously can't fathom why this museum is so poorly rated. This was probably my favorite museum on our trip. If you are going, make sure to take the TOUR. We made the 10:30am one. It's free and the young man, in addition to explaining what the automatons and musical instruments were and the history behind them, actually wound up all the ancient relics so you could see them in action. Some of this stuff is really old, which is mind boggling. Exceptional museum and so much fun (and I don't have children and am not a child!). A must-visit in Utrecht. Also, a separate note about Holland for those planning their trip. Utrecht and The Hague were our favorite cities. We found Amsterdam to be touristy and overrated. Delft is a nice day trip (20 minutes from The Hague) but don't go to the Delftware factory, it is a tourist trap. Skip Leiden: university town but not that interesting and not much in it.

Yelp
I love this museum. It's definitely a niche- mechanical musical instruments may not be for everyone, but if you have any interest, this is one heck of a museum. We took the tour- Bronwyn was amazing! She gave us an English language tour, and thoroughly explained the mechanisms and history, and also played several of the wonderful collection items for us! What a treat. I very much enjoyed this, as an adult- but kids enjoy it as well. We saw many children having a wonderful time here. I suggest you go early. We were there at opening (and took the 10:30 tour), and there was no one but us on the tour. Later the tours were much more crowded. They have a lovely gift shop, lots of stuff for kids! We also very much enjoyed the cafe (hot drinks, cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes). This museum is free with the museum card. Adult tickets are regularly 12 Euro, children are 6.50, and 3 and under are free. The museum is near lots of places to eat (terrific french fry place right outside!)

Yelp
One of the most fun museum experiences ever. I had never had any idea that mechanical instruments of the size and beauty of those on the collection existed. I am often one for looking around museums on my own rather than doing a tour, but this is one place where the tour is A MUST because you will get to see the instruments on operation.
