10 Best Jazz Clubs in New Orleans

"One of the most popular spaces for public gatherings along Bourbon Street that doesn't involve the usual tourist schlock and frozen hurricanes. Free jazz sets are performed every day from 10 a.m. till close, and families congregate here to enjoy them. The main draw outside of gratis jazz grooves are selfie-ready statues of local icons such as Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, and Irma Thomas, as is the opportunity for people watching." - Andrew Parks, Paul Oswell

We had a really great time eating beignets in the courtyard and listen to the saxophone player who’s been playing there forever. There’s a big water fountain in the center of the courtyard and the birds were flapping around in the top bowl taking a birdbath. It was so cute. the people are really nice and the food was really good

Musical Legends Park is such a nice break from the usual chaos of Bourbon Street. It’s an open-air courtyard with live jazz, plenty of seating, and a really relaxed vibe. You can grab a coffee or a drink from Café Beignet and just enjoy the music without needing a reservation or a cover charge. The live band was fantastic—super talented and clearly having fun. It’s not too loud or too packed, so you can actually sit and have a conversation while listening. There are statues of New Orleans music legends around the space, which gives it a nice local touch.

Google
This wonderful jazz park features a coffee shop and a cocktail bar. The band begins playing at 10:00 AM and continues into the late evening. Please note that the hours listed on Google Maps are not entirely accurate.

Good music, good drinks and beignets. Great place to stop and get some food and drink.

Nestled on Bourbon St...this little park with live jazz singing while you're eating a caramel pecan beignet is a treat! You'll forget you're on Bourbon with the rest of the crowd!

It's a beautiful place to visit however it was very loud and crowded. Even with that being said we were able to get our food fast and the staff was very friendly. Other than people being on top of each other( we went back after a few hours and it was a little better) and smell of urine surrounding you it was great.

The jazz singer sings everything from Frank Sinatra to Louis Armstrong. He has such a deep baritone, just love his relaxed style of singing. And he is accompanied by the most talented keyboard player. Just love going there every time we are in NOLA.

We went to visit the morning of Halloween before all the hustle and bustle so it was quiet and empty but I learned quite a bit and had fun checking out the musicians statues/reading the plack's. Bridges are gorgeous! Definitely a must for first timers to NOLA!

Yelp
A great place to sit outside with a good amount of shade available while you listen to great music. Cafe Beignet is located here along with a slushy bar that serves frozen Hurricane, mango, and other drinks. The atmosphere is lovely with a small fountain and the legends statues. Bring cash to tip the musicians.

Yelp
I was last here over 10 years ago and mistakenly wrote a review about it under the Cafe Beignet outpost which is located here. I'll visit over to that entry and make a correction. For our recent trip, Gayle, David, and I wandered into the Musical Legends Park one evening and enjoyed listening to music together. It wasn't too crowded and it was nice to hang back with a decent sight line and good acoustics. Gayle and I then returned the next morning for a Cafe Beignet breakfast, and enjoying our meal within the Park. We might of been a little early, as music ensemble was staging for their performance as we left.

Yelp
Stopped by to hear the live music on a weekend afternoon. The statues throughout the park are big and are perfect for photos. There is place to get coffee, drinks, and beignets! Plenty of tables to sit at throughout the park too. There was a live jazz band performing, and they even brought up one of the audience members to play! There were also heaters around the main sitting area, which was nice and warm! I Recommend stopping by for live music and coffee and food if you're in the area!!

Yelp
Listened to live music and enjoyed beignets and drinks, good atmosphere. Overall good experience!

Yelp
Musical Legends Park is located smack dab in the middle of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. There are multiple statues in the front of the park and a Cafe Beignet behind where live music is played every day. The statues, plaques, and displays are all a tribute to all the musicians who've played in New Orleans. There's a Cafe Beignet inside and also a couple places to buy food and drinks. It's actually a really nice sanctuary and the complete opposite of what is going on the street right outside. The band that we listened to was great and I'm assuming all bands who play here are also great. Sitting outdoors and listening to relaxing music is such a needed break from all the craziness.

Yelp
Best beignets in all of New Orleans! Beautiful outdoor seating with a live band too. Just a nice oasis in the middle of bourbon street.

Yelp
Everything about this place would make me come back again. Front the fast service, to the live entertainment, the food, and the great view. You place your order, take the number they hand you and a server will bring it out to you.

Yelp
Bourbon Street on a Tuesday night isn't nearly as hectic as Bourbon Street on a weekend night, but it was still fairly packed and rowdy when we headed out. We'd passed this little getaway a few times over the course of our stay and finally decided to duck in for a few. We made a beeline for the bar, where we waited for the bartender to finish explaining to the guy ahead of us that he needed some form of ID to sell him alcohol. It was a long conversation. We ordered a couple of drinks then made our way over to a table close-ish to the stage, so we could recline, imbibe and enjoy the live music. I don't know the name of the duo that was onstage that night - it was a trombone playing female singer and a male keyboard player - but they were talented. I loved the huskiness of her singing voice and the selection of songs they played for everyone. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer. We did hang out for a bit, but in the end we dropped a tip in the duo's bucket and headed back out into the night. We really could have stayed longer - we had nothing planned for the night - but the siren song of all the New Orleans things was calling to us, and we had to answer. If you're looking for a relatively calm place to catch your breath, head into the park. There are food options available at one of the kiosk/stores at the back (to the right of the bar), but we were still so full from lunch we couldn't even consider food at that time.

Yelp
This was a fabulous way to end my New Orleans visit. I discovered this little park while walking down Bourbon Street, and I'm so glad I did. Statues of the great Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, and Fats Domino greet you as you enter the patio. There's a Cafe Beignet in the back. Small jazz ensembles play next to the bar. it's a perfect respite from the craziness on Bourbon Street. Loved it and so glad I found it!

Yelp
The hideous woman, with regretful, tasteless, choice in tattoos, of a bartender, refused to replace the DISGUSTING HURRICANE DAIQUIRI - after two sips. The menu board said it was a mixed tropical fruits, it was CHEAP CHERRY FLAVORING AND DISGUSTINGLY SWEET. When I asked if I could please replace it, she could not say quicker with a "No! You can pay for a new drink!" Welcome to Bourbon Street. No bartender in NYC would EVER LEAVE A CUSTOMER UNSATISFIED. She was so rude, a couple next to me from Kentucky were gobsmacked by her rudeness. I also gave her a $2 tip. And told another lovely group of women to avoid the cherry hurricane drink. I left the drink at the bar, and went on my merry way to discover a more friendly Bourbon Street experience. Bad customer service. The jazz band was amazing though!

Yelp
Love this place. It was a beautiful day and too pretty to be inside so this was a treat to sit in the courtyard listen to great live jazz music and have a delicious local cocktail. After watching everyone around us enjoying the beignets we had to get some. They were even better than they looked. We asked them to go light on the powered sugar so they probably would have been even better had we went with their original amount. Prices on food and drinks are very affordable. They do not offer table service but the lines at both the bar and cafe beignet go fast and they bring the food out hot to your table.

Yelp
Ate breakfast here several mornings. There is a Cafe Beignet and a bar inside the Park and it is so NOLA to eat while being serenaded by very good musicians enjoying what they do.

Yelp
An awesome gem tucked away on Bourbon Street with live music, a bar and Cafe Beignet.

Yelp
I love this place. It's a great place to grab a drink and enjoy some jazz music. They have some food there too . Although we did not order anything, the beer and music was awesome !

Yelp
First time walking down Bourbon Street this year, and I had people with us that had never been to New Orleans and we took a peek ajust to see what this was about because it looked awesome as we heard the music coming from the park. Before we could even say anything to the man standing at the gate, he didn't even look at us and said ' it's closed !' with an attitude. Excuse me sir but how do you address people. How hard is it to say ' my apologies but this venue is a private party and we can't take anyone at this time'. If you're standing at the gate, and addressing the public, have some manners and some etiquette, which you clearly need to work on.

Yelp
I visited the Musical Legends Park on a whim while in town to get a passport. I just so happen to be riding past and notice they were open and welcoming people in (only with covid vaccination cards) and decided to give them a try. I got the shrimp Po'boy which was super hard, cold, and unappetizing. I thought maybe that's the way it's done in New Orleans so I didn't really make a fuss about it, I just kept a mental note for future. However, I also got beignets and those were absolutely delicious!!! They were made to perfection and I felt like a complete fat a** stuffing my 3 beignets down because I had never had them before but I honestly didn't care being that they were that good Lol. The music and the vibe was very chill and relaxing. I loved everything about my experience (minus the entree) as well as the kind service I received so I will be back to give them another chance to redeem themselves.
google avatar

Tiffani M.

Yelp
Yay for live music with plentiful seating, and boo for the food. I ordered the shrimp platter (see pics). The fried shrimp was dime-sized and overcooked. I got about six slices of fried okra (included in the platter). The french fries were the best part of my order. My suggestion is to just walk through the courtyard and view the statues of legendary New Orleans musicians.
google avatar

Yelp
A walkway just off of the ferry in Algiers. I don't know if we mussed part or didn't go far enough, but it seemed poorly delineated, and more of a bit of a path along the walkway with a plaque. When asked, even the ferry worker stationed feet from it did not know of it or where it was.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Beautiful park to sit and listen to live music. There is a place to buy drinks and also a place to buy some beignets if you get hungry. We spent a relaxing evening here, away from the bustle of the city. Highly recommend a visit here.
google avatar

Janet C.

Yelp
Great little outdoor music venue to listen to some jazz for free. There is Cafe Beignet to get breakfast, NOLA favs entrees, adult and non-alcohol beverages including coffee and of course, beignets. Coffee and beignets were good. Frozen margaritas were tasty as well. Music was fantastic!
google avatar

Nona C.

Yelp
More like an outdoor Cafe feeling, but loved the live music and overall vibes if this area. The beignetes rom Cafe Beignete were AMAZING! Very fluffy with just the right amount of powder sugar. Also got the Carmel Au Lait. It was a little sweet - 5 pumps of caramel... I'll ask for 2-3 pumps in the future.
google avatar

Fangyi G.

Yelp
Beautiful outdoor space, awesome band, food and drink looked good but we were denied entry by the security guard in the front because we were carrying some pralines that we had just bought souvenirs and despite us telling him that we don't plan on opening any of the packaging inside the seating area. Unexpected as this is in the middle of a tourist spot, oh well...we'll try again next time.

Soy L.

Yelp
This is an oasis of calm jazz and propriety amidst a sea of debauchery right outside the gate. Trumpeter Steamboat Willie was a class act.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Nice outdoor area over live music and beignets. Prime spot to leisurely be. I'm charmed in this center city!
google avatar

Maquel C.

Yelp
Great live music. A bar, and a cafe! What more could you ask for! Family friendly and clean.

Yelp
Stopped by my first evening in NOLA for some live music and a drink. Did not disappoint! Cute venue, great music, good atmosphere.
google avatar

Kendoll C.

Yelp
Such a gorgeous place to relax. A great New Orleans experience, we sat amonst statues of legends, listening to great jazz. The little patio had tons of seating: in front of the band, near the cafe, near the bar, or up on the balcony. Cafe Beignet is located here-so snacks are available. We only came here to hang out before our coty tour-so I can't comment on drinks or food, but the experience was delightful. Some music in the sun we spent a good hour soaking it all in. A must stop!
google avatar

Holly A.

Yelp
The best place to catch some great live jazz music. Drinks were affordable. We had shots of fireball and a couple berry daiquiri's. At the back of the park they sell beignets. Which as my first time having them were...okay. The music was phenomenal and filled my heart and ears with joy.
google avatar

Marty M.

Yelp
Awesome place to listen to jazz while having a cold drink. They also have a small selection of food as well. Great atmosphere!
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
Are you looking for a "Safe Space" on Bourbon Street? Somewhere non-threatening where you can have a drink, access to a clean bathroom and listen to some New Orleans jazz? Well, this is where you can either find a table or just hang out at the bar and chat with the bartender and relax from the crowds and being approached on Bourbon Street. We came here as it looked so inviting, wasn't blasting hard rock nor a promotion for "3 for 1" drinks. Actually really enjoyed the music and drank one of those slushy drinks that after the fact I really regretted as too much sugar and cheap alcohol. I'd rather have some good stuff as not to regret it in the morning. This is a great rest stop when you need a "Safe Space".

Yelp
I hate to call this a park. It's a couple of statues and a couple of restaurants and a courtyard. Calling it a park is a major stretch off the imagination. There is a Cafe Beignet. One of the problems I've discovered in New Orleans is there is not vegan beignets ANYWHERE. I even asked here. Nada.

Gretchen G.

Yelp
I went on August 12 2023 and the bar tender was the most beautiful person I have ever seen. He looked like: - bleached hair - blue eyes (i think) - mustache - blacked out sleeve - tiny tats on his fingers - on the tall side - emo/grunge/edgy aesthetic - magnet for girls with daddy issues please email me find his name or @ -gretchengraves69@gmail.com

Yelp
Awesome little plaza on Bourbon Street where they play Jazz music! The best part is they don't charge a cover. Stumbled upon this place with my sister and we were looking to listen to some Jazz while in NOLA. Musical Legends Park has a small stage and a bunch of tables for the audience. They also have food and drink vendors so you can enjoy a bite while watching the shows. The musicians were really talented and we enjoyed just getting some fresh air while listening to great music! Stop by on your Bourbon Street journey!

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Free area in open air to hear some jazz. Hop in to rest while enjoying the French quarter
google avatar

Neije M.

Yelp
Historic as it is delish! The rustic atmosphere with the iron outdoor tables, iron grill, statues and live music was great. After walking up and down Bourbon downing grenades and other alcoholic beverages we stopped by here to line our tummies around 10:15pm. I loved everything about the ambiance. I ordered Gumbo and was very satisfied with the soul in the food, tried battered seafood and chips which had a good crunch not soaking in oil . However I wanted to order beignets and my friend a Muffuletta which are New Orleans specials but they ran out of both . Still would recommend for the must have ambient experience with good food.
google avatar

Jonjoe D.

Yelp
Eh food. Eh staff. But fun band. Easy spot to get off the bourbon street nightmare. They rice and beans were tasty
google avatar

Micah N.

Yelp
This spot would be so cool and cute if you could predict when a band was going to be by. In the week since we've been here I've only seen one band and I immediately stopped to listen. They were done twenty minutes later. My advice? Go to Frenchmen Street if you're wanting to hear live music.
google avatar

Laneisha T.

Yelp
Came here during a vacation in NOLA the music is amazing! Live music soooo good! So nice to just sit and enjoy the music. We were hungry so we ended up having some drinks and I can't remember which, but for food we got red beans and rice a sandwich and of course beignets! The red beans and rice was just okay and the sandwich was too not bad but not the best thing I ate. I did have to add salt too the red beans and rice as I felt it was a little bland but the beignets were delicious covered in powdered sugar! The live music definitely made the experience though! I'd recommend the food only if you're hungry and gonna hang for a while, but if not aside from the beignets I'd say grab food elsewhere...that's the only reason I gave 4 not 5 stars but overall the vibe is amazing good people good music and a damn good time!
google avatar

Mel R.

Yelp
This place is ideal for mature crowds looking to get away from the madness of Bourbon st. Enjoy a cocktail or beignet, while listening to a live band playing truly awesome Jazz. The scenery is very chill, its relaxing and also perfect for taking pictures by the statues of some of the Jazz Legends. Its one of my favorite spots on Bourbon, you can go up until midnight and enjoy a good time. Cafe Beignet is towards the back, good coffee and of course Beignets. I believe the close around 10pm. Theres nothing more to it. Jazz, Jazz, and more Jazz... So what's your complaint?
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
Belly on up early and grab a table with a view of the jazz band playing and order yourself some beignets and few Bloody Mary's to get the party started. It's great people watching and a super relaxed place to groove out to some really good music. You have to go up to the bar to order your drinks and the food counter to order food which servers bring to your table. We had an absolute blast here. The bartenders are hilarious.
google avatar

Allie S.

Yelp
The drinks and music were great. There was a live band that was fun to watch. They played some slower music than a lot of then other places, but we welcomed the opportunity to sit for a moment and slow down as well. The band was good, three younger guys and an older guy singing. The singer sat the entire time they performed and had some friend at a front table he kept talking to and sat with during a break. Can't remember what I had to drink specifically, but it was whiskey, orange and delicious. The bartender was pretty nice and helpful with deciding what to order. The seating outside is lovely. It's a courtyard setting with a fountain you can sit by as well. There are some interesting statues of famous musicians around the courtyard as well. There is plenty of seating and outdoor heaters that were awesome. They kept the chill off without burning us up.
google avatar

Brooke H.

Yelp
Free Jazz * in a fun outdoor courtyard area with a bar and restaurant located within. Right in the heart of the quarter. Our drink server was Marilyn and she was super friendly and nice to talk with. * though as a fellow artist, I must say please tip the musicians as hardly anyone but us were doing so on the day we went.
google avatar

Yelp
Music Legends Park is our favorite stop on Bourbon street every time we go to New Orleans. The band is wonderful and plays all types of music you would expect to hear in the quarter. We also love their food and drinks at the little restaurant tucked away in the back of the venue. You can grab breakfast lunch or dinner! They have all of the traditional food items you expect in New Orleans the prices are very reasonable considering they are in the heart of Bourbon Street. We grab snacks or a meal and then just sit and enjoy the music and people watch the Bourbon Street Craziness!
google avatar

Bee D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere from which to enjoy the free jazz performances. I wish I could have stayed longer but we were only able to stop by for a few minutes. I just think they deserve a good review since it was awesome.

Yelp
We came into town for a weekend for a long wedding. My wife is still nursing our 3 month old, so he came with us. Musical Legends Park is the one spot we found with excellent music that was also all ages. We spent the morning here with our little boy--volume was just right, music was great (started at 9am!), ambience was really nice. Highly recommended if you're looking for a kid-friendly jazz spot in the morning!

John A.

Yelp
What a fun experience! Got to eat my first beignets, my first po boy, and host my first geocaching event In Louisiana! Service was fast and the food was delicious. Glad we chose this venue!

Alexandra M.

Yelp
Enjoyed some beans & rice and jazz music in this cute park inlet off bourbon street. Pretty busy place but you can usually find a table

Yelp
When in New Orleans it's just a given that you visit Bourbon St. It's a mixed bag, mostly bizarre carnival (even on quiet days) that you just have to experience. Then move on to the rest of the French Quarter. Musical Legends Park is a really pleasant and unexpected treasure to stumble upon amidst the stereotype of Bourbon St. A charming little square draws you off the street and acts as an oasis. A jazz / blues trio was playing in the square that was well populated with folks enjoying the music, drinks, food and atmosphere. There is plenty of seating, some covered around the bar area where we posted up. A Cafe Beignet resides at the back end of the space to provide some nourishment - muffuletta in our case (quite tasty). The drink selection is good, the cocktails tasty while you enjoy the intimacy of the live music. The metal chairs are not the most comfy but by no means a deal breaker and ultimately just add to the character of the park. Make an effort to spend some time here while you're in town. We visited on a somewhat rainy day ( in which case the aforementioned covered bar area was ideal, and close to the band) but I expect that an evening visit would be truly an awesome experience. If I'm ever fortunate enough to return to NOLA this will be in my regular rotation of hang out spots.

Yelp
Really liked this place. Great place to seat and relax listening to live jazz. Even though it's on Bourbon St you feel you are away of the craziness. Have a drink or eat a beignet. Amazing place.
