Mustapha' s Place

I had stayed at Mustapha's in 2002 and 2009 and enjoyed the experience and especially the location. This time (June 2024) I stopped by for just lunch during a ride along the east coast. I was happy to see that the place still had its laid-back ambiance and especially happy to see Mustapha who I had not seen since 2002.||I had a Tuna dish with rice and a bowl of vegetables in a delicious sauce. The taxi driver I had hired to drive me had chicken and chips which he said was great. After lunch we spent some time at the beach since Mustapha's is just a couple hundred feet from the talcum-powder sand and spectacular blue-green water of the Indian ocean.

Amazing and cute accomodation in reagge style with hamakas in colorful houses, very private where you can feel peace and love everywhere. The place is plastic free. Google map roads do not match reality, you have to keep searching the sandy road to Mustapha place. Anyway it is 100% recommended.

We came the second time and stayed for 4 nights. It was great again. The staff is friendly and the breakfast nice. The kids enjoyed the pool. The place is like small green paradise with all the plants and beautiful with all its small houses and huts. You can walk barefoot on the sandy paths all the time. A unique place with a special atmosphere, very kids and family friendly.

We stayed at Mustapha's Place for ten days and we didn't want to leave. It is just the most lovely, laid-back, comfortable place you can imagine. Our room was simple, but comfortable and spotlessly clean. The property is filled with trees, plants and flowers. The large pool is really nice and it is very well-maintained.|Bestof all is the tiny bar/restaurant that serves really good food. The menu isn't extensive, but the dishes are well-prepared and the food is very fresh. The staff are all very friendly, polite and helpful.|It is not directly on the beach, but it is only a two-minute walk. |the neighbouring hotel has begun to play music until quite late some nights, but it didn't bother us.|We would come back to stay with Mustapha and his crew anytime.

Beautiful gem with easy access to the beach. Fantastic staff and atmosphere you feel instantly at home. The food is great. The lady who gives massage is very good. There's hammocks and sofas dotted around in the lush setting. We truly enjoyed our stay. The only thing I could ask for is a few more shelves and hooks in the room which are simple but very clean and to be honest you only sleep there so you don't need much more. Thanks Alessandra, Mustapha, Stella and the rest of the staff for our stay.

Overall I had a nice stay. Really liked the pool and the proximity to the beach. We booked the rooms with shared bathrooms. The bathroom was really nice, although the room was quite small and dark. The bed was on a level a step down which made it feel a bit like a hovel. Definitely a squeeze for two people. Our friends were staying in the ensuite rooms which were MUCH nicer. I liked the hammocks around and that there were a lot of areas to hang which was good because our room was small and dark. Most of the staff were really friendly although there was one that had a bit of an attitude, and I got made to feel like I was 'asking for the moon' at some simple requests. (there were some eye rolls etc, which I found uncomfortable) I was there for new years eve, and although some of the guests were enjoying the live music, it wasn't for me, and they were set up just a few metres from my bedroom, which personally ruined my new years eve as it was so loud and I couldn't get away from it. Not the relaxing new year I had planned for myself!! It would have been nice to know this upon booking. Also, the water was so overpriced, they charge 1 usd per refill of 1litre!!!! Considering this water comes from a refillable water tank and isn't even cold I found it an astonishing price, especially considering everywhere else I've ever stayed in Zanzibar the water has been free. Also the food is not particularly great, and I feel was slightly overpriced too, for what it was. I really liked the pool, although there should be more loungers. The pool has an interesting combination of depths which I thought was nice. It's a shame the fountain isn't on.

Booked the place for ten days - stayed for 7. Nice place 100 meters from the beach which means it’s HOT. Really hot as it gets no breeze from the sea. The rooms are nice and clean but could need air condition. The place itself has a great pool and lovely staff. The big downside and the reason for only two stars on this rating is the waiting time. I know this is Africa but on average we waited 1.5 hours for food on every single meal we had. In my opinion that’s just not good enough and should be improved. Especially when you bring kids this doesn’t work at all. So even though the staff is nice, the place very relaxing and the rooms clean I would look for something else next time.

The pool is beautiful and surrounded by lots of green. There is a nice little playground with swings and the place brims with a certain feeling of adventure. The food in the restaurant was OK. The placemats definitely should just be tossed in the bin, I don't see how they can be cleaned
