Muth's Candies

I understand it's technically still summer, but with that said, we are well below average this week (not even 80 degrees this week) and the website clearly states that it is sent with an ice pack. My location is also within the two day window for the ice pack to be effective. The pictures are from directly after the delivery to my address. The ice pack didn't work.

KIND BUSINESS ALERT These folks really know their products. There is so much to choose from. The chocolate is delicious. It's pricey, but well-worth the cost. They also have sugar-free options. They have something for everyone!

This is one of my favorite shops in Louisville. I wish we had more independent, family run places like this. The modjeskas are made fresh daily and are THE BEST! We come here for almost every holiday or anytime we want to give someone a sweet gift

This place is a sweet little time capsule that proves handmade candy is still pure magic. Everything here is crafted the old-fashioned way, and you can taste the care in every bite. Their bourbon balls are divine — rich, perfectly balanced, and surprisingly affordable. The staff were super friendly! Stepping inside feels like wandering into a 1950s candy dream, complete with the same classic recipes they’ve used for generations.

Visited here with a group and while the inside is on the smaller side, there is a wide variety of treats on the shelves inside. We visited in October so there were many fall and Halloween themed candies. Everyone in our group bought something including those that preferred sugar free treats.

I only had 24 hours in Louisville and I'm so glad Muth's was one of our stops. I grabbed a ton of Easter candy and everything was delicious. My favorite was the modjeskas. I bought a bag, plus a couple of the Easter egg versions. Oh my God are they delicious. An unnamed distillery also sells them. They claimed theirs were the best, but they are dead wrong. Muth's is the place for modjeskas. I just had my last one tonight and I'm sitting here considering placing an order. Hopefully they ship!

The modjeskas are to die for !! What is that you may ask, its just marshmallow covered in caramel. Sounded simple, but when you have it in your mouth, its entirely different experience from having marshmallow. Its texture is like firm custard yet airy. Ask for a sample if the kitchen is wrapping a fresh batch. Modjeskas is their star item !! The candy store is like a time portal, once you stepped through the door, you felt like you being transported back in time of a certain decade.

I think this is the best candy shop in Louisville, and in Kentucky. The taste of the chocolate is just so good. Turtles are my favorite, but the double dip malted milk balls are really good too. The little footballs, or Easter eggs, are perfection. I've bought horseshoes, bunnies, ducks and cats all in chocolate. All were gifts. Every single person said it was the best chocolate they ever had. You're staff had always been incredibly nice to me and so helpful.

The Sweetest Spot in NuLu! [Louisville KY] On our last day in Louisville we stopped by this candy store before heading to the airport. There was some kind of gutter work going on in this part of the street so parking was limited. Unfortunately, when we came by for ice cream next door on our first day in Louisville the candy shop was already closed for the day. The shop is a small, family-owned business operating since 1921. Inside are displays of handmade candies, delectable treats like Old Fashion Kentucky Bourbons and Muth's Modjeskas as well as unique novelty treats like horseshoe shaped chocolates. I was the first customer and I already knew what I wanted. The chocolates were already pre-packaged, I chose a bag each of the milk peanut clusters and milk chocolate raisin clusters... they were fresh and so delicious! For holidays I venture to Muth's for the best candy and reasonable prices. This visit was for Christmas stocking stuffers. My wife, daughters, and son-in-law look forward to getting treats from here. In fact we sent candy to our out of town friends who love bourbon balls and Madjeskas. As the business has been here since 1921 that's a testament to their popularity and success.

A local staple in Louisville! Opened year round you'll find your traditional favorites and seasonal treats. Some things simply taste better because they are made by Muth's. What you'll find (besides 100+ years of history): peanut brittle, dipped Oreos, modjeskas, chocolate, jelly beans, malt balls, espresso beans, gummies, and so much more. Sugar free options also available. Service is fast with associates always behind the counter to help grab candy or ring up your purchase. Small store so be patient with fellow shoppers. If you're looking for bulk candy or gift packages, they can help! Street parking. The closest spots are metered.

It was good and they were sweet! They have options if you're not trying to get a ton which was nice since we had to bring it home on the flight! There was so many candy options, we wanted to try more!!!

We landed in Louisville early, drove downtown, and waiting for things to open found Muth's Candies. What an amazing gem! Stepping through the doors reminded me of candy shops that were old when I was young. The ambiance was practically screaming, "THIS CANDY WILL BE GOOD BUY SOME"! It's been here since 1921, and they are still hand making all of their candies. Massive selection from creamy sour popsicle shaped lollipops to caramel covered marshmallow, to classic chocolate selections. Perfect place to get souvenirs for kids, or to satisfy that sweet tooth for the kid in you!

Love this little candy store. What might look small is mighty on flavor. I have ordered from their website, from inside the store and every time they were able to deliver on my ask. Modjeska candy is so good. I love the chocolate covered ones as well. Try the chocolate orange peels! Delicious. Try everything...their candy is just delicious!

How did I go so long in my life without ever having a modjeskas?!?! Think caramel light poured over the smooshiest mallow you could think of that has a bounce but no stick. How else would I explain it? I took mine home only to finish them up too quickly and now I know that I must find a way to get more!

I poped in here during a nulu festival and walked out with some sweet treats! Staff was kind and answered any questions I had, and recommended the carmel covered marshmallows which are their specialty (they have a specific name. I just cant remember it). I'd come back for more candy.

I saw Muth's on a TikTok. Perked my interest for the 100+ year business. I decided we need to check out this place. My wife entered the store and I noticed 4 ladies close behind. I hold the door for the ladies. The less than enthusiastic man waited on the other ladies first even though my wife is standing at a case wanting to choose her candy. A less than enthusiastic lady stands behind the man until all the others were waited on and left. Finally, we get waited on by the girl. We finally purchase our candy. It's good chocolate. I really liked the milk chocolate bourbon turtles. The dark chocolate is really dark chocolate. I liked it, the wife passed. The ambience was cold, uninviting. If I'm in the neighborhood I'd probably stop in but, I won't make a special trip to Muth's like I did today.

On a recent trip to Louisville, I stopped by to get some of these iconic candies. The modjeska was simply amazing. I had some others which I did a taste comparison with and hands down the ones from Muth's were a cut above! So good and surprisingly not cloyingly sweet. The Bourbon Balls were also outstanding. Everyone I gifted these to loved them. I picked up some brittle as well (liked the peanuts better than the peanuts and popcorn version) but were a bit too sweet for me. I got done Halloween candy for my friend's son, and a few more items for gifts. The store is unassuming and has been around for over 100 years. Charming selections and definitely worth a visit if you're in town!

I am in love with Muths bourbon barrels and their bourbon turtles. But don't sleep on the modjeskas! The service from this store is always top notch. Very cute and warm ambiance in the store.

Stopped in Muth's while in Louisville for the weekend. Very old school inside and reminded me of the old candy shop in our hometown. They offered samples of the Modjeskas and we were in heaven. Nice treat to bring home for thanksgiving. We would come back just for this candy!

Yes, stop here and stock up. We have had chocolate bourbon balls all across the state when visiting distilleries. Without a doubt, Muth's bourbon balls, made with Very Old Barton, are by far THE BEST. The candy shop is right out of last century, nothing fancy and there are some artifacts along with the candy. We visit Louisville from Virginia every so often, and Muth's is always a stop. Visit near Easter and there may be a line, so many Easter candies to choose from. Their chocolate is a perfect gift or souvenir from Kentucky. Both milk and dark chocolate options, as well as not chocolate selections. Most of the time it is east to get a parking spot right out front in the NULU part of Louisville. It's an authentic experience.

What a cute little place! We came here during the NULU Bock Fest and loved it. As soon as you walk in there are so many yummy options to choose from! I bought a coconut chocolate egg, sour gummies and chocolate malt balls all for only $9 which I thought was great! Service was great and everyone was willing to answer any questions that we had. I will definitely be back!

I made a point of swinging by Muth's to try their modjeskas and bourbon balls. They have TONS of stuff so if you like anything sweet you will certainly find something you like here. The modjeskas and bourbon balls were both better than sex. This place is awesome and a must stop in Louisville. I might order some shit to be delivered to me if that is an option...

So, I do not like marshmallows or marshmallow candies, but I wanted to try the Modjeskas. It was amazing! They were delicious. The original is even better than the chocolate covered. You have to try them! The bourbon balls are very good, too. The entire store has excellent candy and chocolate but definitely go and get Modjeskas.

The staff was very nice and friendly. The chocolate is so delicious! Try the turtles which were recommended and also the milk toffee bark. I wanted to get to popcorn brittle but it was a little to much candy for just me. Next time! Definitely worth a stop if you like your sweets!!

Muth's candies is a long time old fashioned candy store that services the popular Nulu neighborhood in Lousiville Kentucky. As the name suggests it is a candy shop that has a wide selection of goodies and treats. Mainly chocolate it appears. Me and the family stopped in here for the first time a week or so ago and all picked out and individual snack or treat. We walked away with some peanut cluster assorted chocolate box, snow caps, peanut brittle, a seasonal holiday chocolate tree and some other small candies. Everything we ate here was very good. Impersonal got the peanut cluster chocolates and they were top notch. Very high end tasting candy. The pricing here is honestly and surprisingly fair. Being in a popular neighborhood and being an authentic non chain candy store I was anticipating high prices. But to me they felt cheaper then some of the big chain candy stores I've been and they had more authentic and local candies. So win win. Overall cute shop with drool inducing goodies and great prices. Worth checking out for those with a sweet tooth or looking for nice tasty gifts for someone.

Muth's has been handmaking chocolates and other sweet treats in the nulu area of louisville for over 100 years. i got to see behind the scenes of them making their most famous treat - the modjeska. known as a "carmel marshmallow wonder", Muth's Candy has perfected the recipe. it's truly one you have to eat it to believe it. you can also see how many other delicious treats they create on a daily basis. be sure to give them a visit next time you're in the neighborhood

What a disappointment. I am 87 years old and have always loved Muth's I now live in Pa. but lived in Louisville over 70 years and visited your store. I have ordered a few times on line and when my daughter or I come to Louisville we always stop and bring goodies home. However this last order (last week) was not what I was use to getting. I ordered two of the half pound chocolates and was not happy with the contents. Too many hard pieces, no jelly piece (my favorite). Not enough variety of creme pieces. Have you made a drastic change in your selection? I was also friends with some of your older staff. (way old lol)

A Louisville mainstay for a reason. All of the candy you could ever want. Pecan clusters, chocolate assortments, taffy, and all of the hard candy you could ask for, under one roof. I especially love their Derby chocolates and chocolate covered cherries. It's always a treat to go to Muth's!

Louisville's oldest and finest. A great little candy shop located in nulu. The shop isn't that big but they have a really nice selection of candies and chocolates. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Stop in and grab some great confections, it's worth stopping in. Today I purchased: Orange slices Modjeskas Nonpareils Bourbon barrels

I have not been treated so rudely in a very long time: I was appalled. A woman here was so extremely rude, impatient, and -- I suspect -- racist. I could not believe it, especially when I saw this sign on the wall. I started out with enthusiastically telling her how interested I was in the name (it's my mom's name, and I have never seen anything with it!!!) and she was dismissive and rude. She continued to be very impatient and hostile as I selected what to purchase. Every interaction I had with her was met with very unhelpful exasperation and unkindness. When I checked out, she first didn't want me to use the self pay system, asking to see my card and my ID. She then let me use it after (it was my husband's card and he was waiting in the car with our 3 year old). I truly wonder if she treated me like this because I'm not white.

My father and I were picking up some other items downtown when we walked past the delightfully decorated window dressing at Muth's. We entered to the happy memory scents of chocolate and caramel. While Muth's was going through some construction, there was also a nice amount of room in the store. My dad and I had a few good minutes of fun looking over the candy options and taking the advice of the clerks behind the counter. We walked away with some sweet treats particular to our own tastes (chocolate covered gummy bears, yum!!!!) and a few snacks for our other loved ones.

Muth's candy has been in business for a long time. I have always loved anything they made especially knowing it was made right there .

Best candy I've found in the city. Super friendly staff of wonderful ladies offering samples we loved the candies. As you enter is a step back in time. So we not only tasted we purchased many different treats like Peanut brittle, chocolate coffee beans ( my Favorite ), chocolate covered peanuts and chocolate covered marshmallows. This is by far a step back in time which reminds me of my Grand mother's home make sweets. A must stop for treats of many types and desires, they will make gift baskets or box your choices and they can ship any place you like. The flavors are pure, the ingredients are simple ( which to me screams home made goodness) list on each package are items we all have in our own kitchens. Ready to return.

They have something for every chocolate lover. They have vegan chocolates and sugar free ones. Come here for Modjeskas! They are a Louiseville classic. The ones made here does not contain bourbon, you have to go to Art Edibles for those. I would recommend the dark chocolate ones because they balance the sweetness of the marshmallows and caramel.

Delicious treats. Bought the M candies I can't pronounce- not knowing what they were. Delicious is what they are! Yummy mix of caramel and marshmallow. The popcorn peanut brittle is so good too! Friendly service! We enjoyed looking at the pictures and history of this lovely little shop!

I want ALL the things here!! Muth's Candy is a darling, old fashioned sweet shop located in Nulu. I do not have much of a sweet tooth, but as soon as I come in here my mouth starts suddenly watering. They have all kinds of locally made treats, including some unique stuff that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere. They also have some gift baskets if you are needing something for a special someone! It's a perfect treat to have right after a meal at Royal's or Grind!

Some of my greatest childhood memories involve Muth's candy. We attended so many Catholic church picnics and Muth's 2 layer boxed candy was always a highlight in the booths. The challenge was getting it home before it melted! My grandmother's favorite was the box of springtime pastel colored dipped pretzels. My grandparents loved Muth's, my parents do as well, and it's one of my favorites too. Stepping into this nostalgic candy shop is like going back in time. I highly recommend it. Be sure to try the caramel and marshmallow mojeskas, a local favorite.

One of the great treasures in Louisville, KY. They have been making homemade candies since 1921. They are known for Modjeskas, (marshmallow covered in caramel), bourbon balls, and turtles (milk and dark). They have 7 different kinds of caramel, 3 different kinds of bark (toffee, pecan, and cashew) and 14 flavor of creamed candies. They started making peanut butter fudge as well as chocolate fudge. They also have seasonal candies, best of all they have SUGAR FREE CANDIES. Ms. Frances is the lovely lady in the picture, she will answer any questions that you have as well as give you TERRIFIC suggestions. You can't go wrong with their popcorn as well as their chocolate covered gummies

My absolute favorite candy store in Louisville! A MUST when visiting The Derby City. The best bourbon balls (bourbon barrels), modjeskas, chocolate covered pretzels, and chocolate drops. (I could go on...) This candy is the perfect treat- I try to pick up these local favorites when I have guests coming to town. I love it so much, I had Muth's bourbon balls as my wedding favors. Muth's is a true Louisville treasure!

Muth's just turned 94 last week, and I can see why: It's your classic candy store with both your usual chocolate-covered favorites and incredible confections unique to Kentucky such as bourbon balls, modjeskas, and chocolate horseshoes. I recommend picking up a box of the modjeskas. The fluffy homemade marshmallow base, a special recipe, is drenched in a butter and cream caramel. Popping one into your mouth will give you the best sugary bite in the store. What's even better: those come chocolate-covered too. Everyone wins at Muth's!

Having driven by this little vintage store front on Market Street hundreds of times, it never occurred to me to see what they have to offer, since I don't have much of a sweet tooth. But when my mom requested buttercream candies for Mother's Day, I decided to visit their website. The website lists their bountiful candy selection, but you'll need to call to order. Seventeen dollars and one day later, I had a pound of butter creams handed to me through the passenger window of my SUV. My mom is a cancer patient. She weighs 90 lbs. and eats like a bird. She ate the whole pound of butter creams (minus the one I tried) in two days. The one I ate was definitely delicious:-)

Growing up, my mother talked about coming here with her grandmother when she'd visit Louisville, and I wouldn't miss a trip to take my kids if we were anywhere even close! On Saturday, we were in Lexington (from Atlanta), and our GPS had us arriving 3 minutes past closing time. We called to see if we could order something over the phone, and they very kindly agreed. Well, the highway was under construction, and while we took a painfully slow but beautiful (de)tour of the city, and they waited for us! I can't thank the wonderful Muth's ladies enough for their kindness! The modjeskas were amazing as always, but the service is what makes this place memorable! We'll be back.

Got a sweet tooth or do you need a special gift (I mean, who DOESN'T enjoy candy?) then I highly recommend Muth's Candy located in the NuLu district. Entering the store one takes a step back in time, and indeed, the store has been in operation since 1920! The beautiful glass and wooden displays, the pictures that illustrate the history of the business, and of course, a plethora of candy and popcorn goodness! I was amazed at the selection! The sweet lady at the counter immediately offered me free samples and assisted me with selecting the perfect chocolatey gift for a special person. The bourbon balls, coffee bean chocolate and their cashew brittle were to die for!!! This is a must see when you are entertaining out-of-town visitors! The prices were reasonable and of course, it is always in best interest to support local business!! Remember Muth's for your seasonal candy and gift needs!

The chocolate pedestal Easter eggs they made for my grandkids was a hit! The kids LOVED them so much! The talented and kind staff at Muth's did an awesome job personalizing and decorating the eggs! It made a very special memory for my family and we'll always remember it! Thank you Muth's! You are the best!!!

Muth's Candy is like going back in time. When I walk in I get the sense that Muth's has been making candy the same way for a long time. The modjeskas and bourbon balls and caramels and taffy and chocolates and other confections are the same as what I would have found if I had walked through Muth's door when I was five years old ... or even when my parents were five years old. And considering Muth's has been making confections since 1921, you can bet they have perfected it! I love seeing the modjeskas -- my favorite of Muth's -- each delicately wrapped in paper. This Louisville specialty features a marshmallow with a creamy caramel center. Fun fact: It was created in Louisville by Anton Busath, who named it for Helena Modjeska, a famous Polish actress who appeared in Louisville several time in the 1880's. If you get nothing else at Muth's, grab a modjeska ... or 20. This shop is small but filled with more treats than you first realize when walking in. And the store itself seems to be stuck in time as well. But this is the only thing I don't like about Muth's. The racks, shelves and cases are likely the same as they've had for decades, with sun-faded signs. Considering the cases are set up in front of the shelves, it can be hard to see what's on the shelves. And they never have music playing. Maybe I'm just so used to hearing music in other stores, but I find this jarring. I've noticed on more than one occasion that you can clearly hear the old, harsh tube lights in the ceiling buzzing more than anything else. I know that's a weird thing to remember, but the silence makes browsing awkward, especially when I'm the only one in the store, with the clerk. I become very cognizant of time, and it hurries me along perhaps faster than I would otherwise. I just want to make over this spot. Some changes could be made to make it easier and more comfortable to browse and to showcase items better while still keeping the old-timey feel. Either way, the candies are delicious, and I suppose that's the most important part after all.

I love Muth's! The shop is like stepping back in time to an old school candy shop. I love going in and looking at all of the delicious confections behind the counters. My favorite item is the Modjeska, which is a marshmallow dipped in caramel. Before moving to Louisville I had never heard of these little delights, but now they are one of my favorite candies ever! And it's even more awesome than they were actually created here in Louisville in the 1880's! I highly recommend checking out Muth's for candies, gifts, and party items. And, you should definitely check out the Modjeskas!

A go to place for Catholics at Easter. Simply not Easter without the fine confections at Muths Candies. Learned my love for chocolate covered jellies here. Don't knock it until you try it. Brings back such fond memories of my long gone parents. Wonderful local institution. Wonderful part of my childhood, and now adulthood.

I have lived in Louisville my entire life but stumbled upon Muth's for the first time today. I'm so glad that I did! Today was a quick visit but I'll be back. The clerk was friendly and told me about the history of Muth's. She also offered samples! A chocolate lovers dream!

If you love candy Muth's is a must visit destination in my NuLu neighborhood. If it can be covered in chocolate Muth's has it. The shop smells wonderful when you enter. They do boxes and bags of candy both pre-made and custom orders. Every holiday Muth's has specialty candies for every sweet tooth. Muth's has been in business since 1912! That is truly amazing to me and is a testament to their quality and scrumptious treats! They also have an online site where you can order and have goodies shipped around the globe.

The peanut brittle is ohh soo delicious! Can't leave here without some or without some chocolate, or chocolate covered vanilla caramels. My kids LOVE the Modjeskas - to the point where every year they get sent a bag from my sister. A Louisville landmark its always a great place to stop for some good sweets.
