Onufri National Iconographic Museum

Unfortunately I was here with a power outage and did not get to experience the beauty of all the icons. I had to use my phone's flashlight to be able to see things... That being said, when in Berat go and see this when exploring the castle. Beautiful history. Not only of the Orthodox Catholic Church..

An interesting little museum inside the castle walls. The altar screen is fantastically ornate. The audio guide goes into some of the pieces in a little too much detail for all bar the most enthusiastic visitor.

A national museum located in the heart of the largest castle in the Balkans. The museum has international values, and world-class iconography, carefully managed by M. Pasku. Also the volumetric combination of the church with the museum gives a feeling of grandeur. Prominent architecture between Greek and Byzantine elements. We had the honor to contribute to site-work and academic research, works consisting of architectural survey and scans of the building with lidar & point-cloud technology.

Small but full of information and paintings. Great museum that represents the artworks done in the Byzantine era or before that. The museum itself is magnificent and rich in history and culture. You also have audio guided tickets for a very reasonable price. I would recommend visiting this museum if you are planning to visit Berat's Castle.

Very well preserved and put-together, I found this museum highly worthwhile and enjoyable with the audio guide. The music is well-chosen on it and adds a lot! One of the better museums I’ve seen in Albania.

Beutiful orthodox church, well preserved

Is worth to visit it if you are interested in art but bare in mind that service and presentation could be better. Museum is located in old church. You can see in one place several icons which were also previously presented in West European galleries. You can go behind iconostasis, which is rather unique opportunity. Opens only till 18:00 in summer and 3 minutes later everyone must be out. You have to plan 1,5h for visit otherwise you will just run through it... Judging from comments price increased lately from 200 ALL to 400 ALL. Audio-guide cost extra 100 ALL. It is worth to take it as explaines details which you won't find in poor description near paintings... However it's not perfect as well. In several places it should contain extra information under green button which was missing. When I asked about it in ticket office none was really bothered... Another thing is most of the wall paintings are barely visible due to poor/ lack of light. It's not allowed to do pictures inside but everyone does as you can see in many reviews.

Well, if you're into religious icons, images, paint-on-wood, and wood carvings, this is a good place for you. Small, two floors, but very small. It's not really worth 400LEk (4EU) price tag, though. Audio guide is 500LEK pp (they have QR codes at most exhibits. If you have data and earphones, you're good). Nice to look at, but again, unless you're into this stuff, it might be a pass. No AC inside, but WC outside is very good (but gratis, no need for ticket to use it). Indeed, they have benches outside you can sit in shade and rest, no ticket. Final annoyance: no photos (and they mean it, surveillance everywhere). I'm not sure where google review photos come from! Can't miss it, well signed, right at Castle entrance (past acordion guy).
