Visiting Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda was an absolute dream come true! The trek to the gorillas’ natural home took me about three hours with a few stops — climbing through thick bushes and steep trails wasn’t easy. But the moment I stood face to face with these majestic creatures, every bit of exhaustion instantly disappeared. 🦍💚 I couldn’t have done it without the amazing team: professional guides, armed rangers, and kind porters who carried our backpacks. Their support turned this tough climb into a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, surrounded by the most breathtaking views of wild nature. 🌿⛰️✨

A one of a kind, once in a lifetime experience, tracking mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The guides are excellent, well-informed and speak excellent English. The hike we did was a bit easy, but it depends on the family you are allocated to.

Mountain gorilla trekking was a phenomenal experience! We absolutely recommend it to anyone considering this for their next Africa trip! Trekking through the jungle with local guides, rangers and porters to find your designated gorilla family. We were able to get a lot closer to the mountain gorillas than we thought!

We did the Golden Monkey Trek. It was wonderful! Our guides were knowledgeable and attentive to the group. It was less than an hour walk and we saw a huge group of monkeys! They were all around us and so playful! Was a great experience and we will definitely bring friends in the future, but be sure to wear boots, as it was muddy in the forest.

you’ve to arrive here before 7 am. there is a booking counter where you pay for the required trips. there are a few options to choose from. please note: the google map takes you through a non-functional road. better to follow the landmarks than relying on the maps. then there’s a briefing for those on specific tours. a tour guide and two gunmen accompany you to ward off animals in case you encounter them. the views from the top are breathtaking and worth the hike. do wear long sleeves shirts and trousers as nettles love to say hello giving sensation, but it is medicinal too, i guess. we went on a nature walk and it was satisfying as it took us 1.5 hrs to go up to a small lake and return. we paid $55 per person.

I loved the experiences in the park. The guides / trackers were effective and informative. The gorillas and golden monkeys were fantastic to see up close in their natural habitat - truly captivating! Here's where they lose stars. We paid THOUSANDS of dollars for this once in a lifetime experience. How is none of that money making it's way to the frontline employees..? And if it is, why is all the tip-begging allowed? Everyone has their hand out. I have no problem understanding that was a visitor I can be expected to help the community, of course. But given the exorbitant pricing of all things tourist in Rwanda, this is extremely off-putting, and we won't be back. Quite sad.
