MVP Bar & Grill

Pretty run down. Needs to be re-touched/re-vamped big time. It has a lot of potential. With a decent sized bar, water-pong, juke box, and a few pool tables. There's not a lot in the area that offers this. But, its pretty grungy. The bartender was also odd. There were 4 people at the bar, and when my partner and I walked in and sat at the bar, we were ignored. I had to wave him down 2x for him to get us a drink. I asked for mine, and before I could ask for my partners, he vanished to make me my drink and then gave it to me and quickly walked away, leaving my partner and I hanging. I was kind of shocked. I got his attention again to order the 2nd drink. When we later went back for a refill, we gave him the empty glasses and asked for the same drinks. He took the glasses and never brought out the next round lol.

Food and drinks were great. It was a nice menu to pick items from. We enjoyed our time. Half of the restaurant had lights off, but there were pool tables and ping pong 🏓 table there. We will go back again.

Went here a week ago. Bartender was extremely rude. Waited a while before he would acknowledge me and my partner. We ordered drinks and food. The food looked poorly cooked when it came out, we stated we didn’t want it and the bartender lost his mind. Saying all types of rude things. We grabbed our stuff and just left. 0 out of 10, would never recommend. People in there that were regulars stated that is the bartenders typical behavior.

Came in with some friends played pool said they don’t have food then went outside to play corn hole where the older owner came out and he said we all looked too “young” and not 21 and had to leave… we’re all 21. He never asked for our IDs nor did we even order drinks we just came to play games and chill. No wonder your bar has three people in it, you “don’t” have food and then assume people’s ages cause they look young. Not our fault your old self ain’t use to young people coming in to spend real money. L business L owner.

The manager Jackson is freaking terrible. I walked in there and waited for 20 minutes and this man never said anything to me and I watch multiple people coming to this bar sit at the bar and not get greeted and walk out. Please do not waste your time and money. This place is terrible

Went in after a concert hoping for a late night bite to eat. Sat in a booth for 10 minutes and no one looked at or spoke to us once. We left to find somewhere that's actually interested in serving customers.

Terrible! Customer service 0 After 20min of waiting for bartender to approach me, which he never did! I just decide to go across the street to another bar and meet my friends there instead.

Updated review: I will never be going back to this place unless they get a serious revamping. And I'm mainly talking about some new staff. There's a young female bartender that seems to have it out for me..? Paid $10 for a jack n coke on a Tuesday. I mentioned that it is a little high to the bartender since I've been here several times before and don't recall paying that much. and she assured me that it's the normal price. Understood. I then ordered some boneless wings. Some of the NASTIEST wings I've ever seen. They looked like breaded pieces of chicken fat, fried and saucedup. Maybe 2-4 actual nuggets in the bunch. I mentioned it to the bartender and she immediately gave me attitude and said its cuz their boneless. I know they Arnt suppossed to have bones, but these don't even have meat..? She continued to have an attitude with me and saying that's how their suppossed to be.. I've gotten boneless wings here several times and never seen them look this bad. After a 45 sec conflict she said I'll give you your money back. And when I questioned why she was taking it so personal, that it's not her fault and it's the kitchens. She said it's because I was immature and aggressive.? I questioned why she said that and she said "get the f*ck out of my face", while I was atleast 8 feet away.. Not in her face.. So I said okay and left. I would've been fine with some new wings, but that wasn't even offered. Overall I wouldn't recommend you visit this place, unless you like terrible customer service. Good location and building, but sub-par staff. Previous review: Great place to hang out and shoot some pool. They even have a ping pong table and a arcade basketball hoop! Along with darts and the sandbag toss game. You will never be bored here! Very comfortable environment. Doesn't get crowded and rowdy like other bars around here. So you can have a more low-key night with your friends. There's plenty of seating along with booths so you can bring your own cards and play if you wanted too! They have these baked potatoes with cheese and seasonings on the menu and it is ahhh-mazing. Wings are delicious as well. Jackson, the owner, is very involved with his business and you can always catch him there. I definitely recommend you check out this local business if you are passing by.

I've been reading some of these Yelp Comments about this Place, And I am Personly Offended. I come here Every tuesday And HANG OUT WITH MY DAD, People Calling the chef Slow and Bad, I'm Upset, It's not his fault he's slow :(

This is a "dive bar" with excellent food. The staff and patrons were VERY friendly and welcoming. Sat at the bar, and ordered the recommended fried rice (chicken). Without any doubt, the best Chicken Fried Rice I have ever had. Asian food is supposedly their best. I am traveling in the area and will go back later in the week.

My brother came to visit me and I decided to take him to MPV. My Coworkers said they had really good food and great hospitality but when we went there, no one wanted to serve us and no one wanted to speak to us. We waited a good 15 minutes without service and we just left. I don't know whether it was because we were black, but the service was not there. It was a waste of my time I end up going to bar Louie around the corner and having a great night. Also, I was embarrassed

STOP. No, I mean it for real. STOP RIGHT NOW. Maybe you've heard rumors. Maybe, just maybe, you came to this place a long time ago. Maybe your wild parents hung out there and told you never ever go there because they raised hll there when they were younger and want to keep their secrets. BUT STOP. It is not what you think it is. Yes, it is still the neighborhood dive bar at the end of a dark street, but it is the suburbs silly. You are super safe and this place does not deserve the reputation it earned when your parents were in there raising hll long ago. Not only have they cleaned up the rep with good times, good people and good free poker every week. (Shameless Plug), this place has friggin crack coccaine level addictively great food. More specifically, the fried rice is so addictive it's dangerous. You simply must order this in person or to go. Either way, get a guard dog or a personal body gaurd to keep you from breaking the bank and your fat belly by endlessly repeating your purchase like the fried rice junky you will become. Know this all you do gooders that are way too uptight to heed my advice; the fried rice is so good it made me start several sentences with But. Lol. Just go and enjoy the menu, BUTTTT LEAVE WITH A TO GO ORDER OF THAT FRIED RICE! You will thank me later and I will forgive you for sneaking in and out with it, dark shades and all.

If you are looking for a dive bar, this is the hidden gem of Gainesville, Virginia. There is more to do here than any other bar. They have ping pong, pool tables, beer pong, darts, corn hole and some classic board games. Happy Hour is from 1pm to 7:30pm. Don't go at 12pm. It's not open. Show up at 1pm. The food is incredible and delicious. The shrimp fried rice and bourbon chicken are my top two favorite dishes. The regular customers are very welcoming and might stare at you when you pull in the parking lot but they don't bite. The outside patio is my favorite part of this place.

One of a kind ... a hidden gem!!! Seriously, you have to go!! If you like down to earth, no frills atmosphere. And real people .. this is your pace ...!!!

If you are looking for what is in my opinion the best food in Gainesville we've tried so far, this is it. The bartenders we have met so far like Lauren are great! The owner is a little grumpy though and we've heard he stresses when it's busy, but they deserve to be busy. If the divey atmosphere doesn't bother you, but you enjoy excellent food, then, please, check them out. This is our favorite place to have a bit of a date night throughout the week. This prices are incredibly reasonable and fairly cheap for the area and considering how good the food and atmosphere is for our silly selves, we are starting to visit quite often. I prefer food to service because I'm paying to satisfy my appetite not my ego.

Our goal on the way back from the winery to find a dive bar between Hume,Va and Arlington-this fit the bill perfectly. Our expectations weren't set high as we read about poor service and questionable sanitary conditions on our approach, but we were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival. Service was prompt, prices were reasonable, and the jukebox was bumping. Bar games galore set the stage for an atmosphere that was a great fit for us. The apps that we ordered were very good. The clientele is what you would expect at a venue like this-an uneasy mixture of bikers, old people, single mothers, former athletes who never quite made it, and the socially awkward who like the bar scene but drink O'Douls. We were happy that we stopped in and would definitely come back. I would have given this place 5 stars, but did question the intentions of the middle aged Asian barback

Dudes late night menu is fire. I had the chilli which is way better then anything I've had out period. Also they chicken quesadillas is awesome. At 9pm it's seems like everyone in the area shuts down but come to MVP if you need a late drink and food fix.

Excellent bar. Cheap, heavy pours. Jackson the bartender is fucking hilarious. Quick service, pours drinks heavy and cheap, and absolutely tells off rude patrons. As a regular, watching him wave off a-holes brings joy. If you see a negative review in here, chances are its a karen

Can I give 0 stars???? Worst experience ever and JACKSON the Asian bartender with glasses is the rudest bartender I've ever met. I'm in the service industry and his demeanor was awful. Being short, having an attitude, putting his hand in my face,rolling eyes, slamming items down on the counter, not allowing for a comfortable atmosphere. Also he didn't wear a mask or even had a mask present. Also the prices for the drinks where iffy how is a Long Island 7.50 but a well tequila and pineapple 7.60. I will never go back and DO NOT RECOMMEND for anyone else.

My friends and I walked in to celebrate one of our friends who finished chemo... we ordered a round of drinks and shots. I went to play $5 in the Juke Box and a man walked out and said "are you playing this fairy music?". I was playing Garth and Reba. Then he followed me to the bar and asked me to play a game of pool. Then his friend turned around d and asked "why are you here?" "Is it political?" At that point, things started to feel very tense and unwelcoming. Not only because we were Democrats but because we were gay. I'll never spend a dime in Northern Virginia...

Best quesadillas in town. Despite the multiple Mexican restaurants in town, Jackson makes a quesadilla to put them to shame. MVP is the spot for locals who appreciate a no-frills atmosphere and the best drink prices in Gainesville. Let the boomers and yuppies waste their money at Bar Louie when MVP has the staff and atmosphere cater to the folks who truly like to have a good time.

I called this place and asked if they were still serving food, the man on the phone answered and said yes and then hung up in my face. i called again and he sent me to voicemail. i tried calling again and the guy working there cursed me out. He sounded like an asian guy as described in the other reviews.

The worse service I've ever received at a bar/restaurant. Who owns this place? I'll buy it from you and will make it much better.

For the customer service received, this place doesn't even deserve 1 star, but I had to pick something to post the review... drove all the way from Fredericksburg to visit this bar for the first time tonight and it was a horrible experience! Never again!! The bartender, who I assume was the owner or a high ranking manager had an attitude from the jump, but once it started getting busy he was really in rare form!... slamming drinks down on the bar, etc. What really had me done and ready to leave was he saw us watching one of the 10+ televisions he had in there with a rugby game on it and turned the channel without any regard to us watching the rugby game or not! Bad part about it is after I got a lil upset another afro-American regular patron said the bartender was upset because it was getting busy! SMDH You don't want the business! Really! NEVER EVER AGAIN! Another patron said that he is too cheap to hire help and gets upset when it gets busy! Need to shut his azz down for bad customer service alone!!!

So have been going here for a few years now and today we show up and Jackson is a complete jackass. I actually brought friends and my wife to eat there tonight. For someone who is a regular he acted like he was pissed and told us nothing was available to cook because he was too busy and did t have time- told us to go somewhere else if we wanted to eat- nice way to run a business. The only reason we go there was for the food since the place is a *#%#- hole anyway. There was maybe 6-7 cars in the parking lot. He knew me and if that's the way he treats his normal customers then screw him that's the last time I go there. Thanks Jackson for showing us your real side and taking care of your veterans! Best grilled chicken salad in town. Also love their shrimp fried rice and bourbon chicken. My boyfriend loves their chicken quesadillas, they are different but very good.

Came in here to get some food, drinks and to watch the game. Took about ten minutes for anyone to come up and greet us. When the bartender came up he had an attitude right away. He said what do you want? We said we would like to order some food first. He said kitchens closed. We asked him this early? He said kitchens closed, you going to drink or not? We said again we were trying to get something to eat. We asked about the abc law that states you have to serve food while you are serving alcohol. The bartender said, I don't care, call and report us, are you drinking or not? We said no and left. The bartender was an Asian man with glasses probably in his 50s. I'm not sure what his issue was and why he an attitude the entire time.

That's weird. My first review was somehow deleted. Anyway, this place is dirty, service is terrible (sat at a table by the window), and the people were not friendly. Not one staff member came to the table while I sat waiting for over 10 minutes. There were 3 patrons in the bar. 2 sitting at the bar and me at a table. The table was crusty from dehydrated, spilled beer, the floors were sticky while walking, it smelled like old beer and shame - terrible. Don't waste your time, money, or health here!

Really good egg rolls when I'm drunk, better than most of the Chinese places around here.. But most the time I'm here I feel like I'm going to get shot or stabbed... Has to be at least 10 ppl I know going there for me to show up .. Sorry mvp this place use to be awesome

They charged my card twice after they charged me to much the first time. Told them to fix it then they still charged me twice. Also that have crappy drink menu

Awesome burger and fantastic happy hour specials! BF cleared his plate and helped with what I couldn't finish. Huge portions. Will definitely come back.

terrible. they charged my card 3 times after telling them not to because i was paying in cash. So I let them hold my card. After 3 people ran it and I told the 3 not to, they looked like they returned the funds, but when I wokeup to check my acct the next morning It was over drafted with 3 different amounts, none of which matched the $23 and change that was my tab at the end of the night. I called in next day and spoke with JACKSON who in turn asked me for way too much personal information just to return money that was wrongfully charged. Im not a local so of course I cant just come back to give you my card back when its your fault. He told me YESTERDAY (JACKSON) that he returned the final payment of 26.22, yet today, 24 hours later, its still pending as a transaction into their system. So JACKSON, If you really care about your job and establishment I suggest returning peoples money and running your business right before legal consultation is seeked. Dont ever go here. Bottom of the barrel to the T...not to mention they messed up my drinks, tried to sell me a bud light saying its a regular budweiser as well as trying to take my drinks every ten mins even if its still HALF FULL. Ive seen 3 year olds run lemonade stands better
