My Art Space

I joined the art excursion with Chan Kerk to Gelang Patah- Pontien on 8 Feb. Within a day, few of us went to 3 interesting, least touristy places to learn sketching. Sketching old building, charcoal factory and boats at the harbour was definitely refreshing and unique for a novice like me. I happily picked up a lot of tips from Chan Kerk during the sketching process. He patiently pointed strengths as well as areas of improvement for me to reflect and make changes. It was definitely worth a visit if you are interested to try outdoor sketching away from the busy city, experience free-spirited spaces which nourish your soul. Lastly, the satay was 😋!

I returned from an excursion led by Chankerk to Kelantan 1-5 Feb 2026. It was my first art excursion. I didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. It was a good selection of cultural and nature sites in a land rich in culture and heritage. The days started early with a different and authentic local breakfast experience. Transport and meals were well taken care of by our local host, Sikiat and his team who were hospitable and took good care of us. We did many sketches in a day, mostly outdoor and in multiple locations, but it didn't felt hurried or tired. There were small breaks to savour local fresh coconut and Chendol, immersed in cultural experiences and to connect with one another. Chankerk gave regular group instructions and individual guidance at each location, and encouraged all to focus on the process not the products. We had the privilege of travelling with two artists who see the world through their lens (camera) and captured the scene, people and action judiciously and tirelessly. Thank you Chankerk for your contribution to the art community and keeping the creative and curios spirit alive both here and abroad!

Thank you Chankerk Teh for an enriching session today! Looking forward to joining one of your travel sketching sessions and engaging in actual outdoor travel sketching soon! I realise that when one has a great teacher - we come away not only learning about art and the techniques but we also come away with learning about the philosophy of life too! Today I got reminded to learn to truly “see” and notice that what logic helps us assume is a straight line is in fact slanted. I also learnt to pick out “patterns” that help me pick out the main essence of what I see… I also learnt about “B-M-S” that when the framework is established we then work on the details … So many advice on how to go about the sketch but also applicable to business and to life in general too… Today was only the first step … and I look forward to continuing this journey of truly “seeing” the world and capturing it through my own unique perspective!

It has been a truly warm, fun and inspiring art excursion at Kelantan led by Chankerk from My Art Space and Uncle SeeKiat. The itineraries were exciting, creative and energizing leaving me feel more connected to art and culture in Kelantan. I would not be able to discover these rich and unique culture and places of Malaysia by myself. Special thanks also to Uncle SeeKiat and Ben who also took further steps to help me when I was not well during the trip. Highly recommended excursion.

Very glad to have attended the travel sketching class conducted by artist Chan Kerk. Location of this class was conveniently situated at their premise at the Istana Park (Dhoby Ghaut). Classroom was comfortable and well appointed. The artist instructor was adept at showing the class the various ways to go about constructing a picture sketch with all the necessary art supplies provided. The class size was kept manageable and allowed for close interaction with and feedback from the instructor. Satisfaction was seeing my own sketching taking form (albeit with many flaws) and serving as a momento in my living room of this experience. Highly recommend this art class. Will be looking out for more opportunities to attend future events.

I started sketching two years ago and this pastime has greatly enriched my life. It has taught me to appreciate my surroundings in a profound way, whether urban or countryside, and I find valuable therapy in the process. I have my teacher Mr. Teh ChanKerk very much to thank, for his instruction, leadership and care, especially during the numerous art excursions I have attended with him. Above all, I am grateful to have found a friend in him, as he is so affable and down to earth. I highly recommend ChanKerk and MyArtSpace to students of all levels interested in taking their art of sketching to a higher level of proficiency.

Joined the Kelantan Art Excursion and it was such a rich experience with culture immersion of local places and food, offering memorable sketching opportunities. The hospitality is wonderful. Chankerk provided good sketching guidance and encouragement to make sketchers of all levels feel comfortable. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful time in Gelang Patah/ Pontian with great company led by artist Chankerk on Sept 29. It was an interesting day out to do travel sketching live pictures on scenic spots with personal coaching from artist Chankerk. Besides sketching/painting, we get to visit some local places of interest, and enjoy the local delights together with a group of jovial and like-minded members wanting to learn travel sketching art. I have benefited so much from this trip where I get to learn something new, giving me more confidence in sketching on the spot. What an exciting experience!
