The hotel is modern, inexpensive and located in a terrific area of the city; convenient to the pedestrian-only areas, the river, the Market, dozens of restaurants, the trolley, the train to Cascais, you name it.
The staff were wonderful. We were upgraded to a larger room upon request, for our entire week's stay at no extra charge. The front desk staff were so very nice and thoughtful and helpful in so many different ways. Their restaurant recommendations were great. They really made our stay wonderful.
The buffet breakfast (which we indulged in but once) was one of the best we've ever had in Europe, especially for the price, and again, the restaurant staff were very nice as well.
The room we were upgraded to was larger than the first, but had an "L" shape layout, with one of the "legs" containing the bed (giant King-sized) and bath area and the other a pullout sofa, desk and fridge. The "bedroom" area was tight and the bath very much so. That said, we made it work by using the sofa as a place to hold luggage and the window areas as temporary storage areas as well. The bath was very small, but modern and the shower was fantastic!
Also, the space between the foot of the bed and the wall was so narrow that my shoulders were constantly brushing against the wall-mounted TV, each time I passed along that "walkway".
The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and as it was really only used to sleep, etc., it was fine.
The staff and the location and general vibe of the lobby and restaurant more than compensated. Very, very good value and terrific location to use as a base to really explore the city
