We stayed at the Mystery Hotel in Budapest for our one year anniversary as a staycation and it was absolutely magnificent. The environment is beautiful and spotless. The rooms are huge, spacious, and incredibly clean. The water pressure in the shower was perfect and easy to adjust from hot to cool, which was exactly what we needed.
It is surprisingly affordable for the level of luxury you get, especially around the Budapest area. I booked through Expedia and breakfast buffet plus Secret Garden Spa access was included. The spa was definitely the highlight — with a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, and comfortable lounge chairs, it was one of the most relaxing things we’ve done. Guests were respectful and the atmosphere was peaceful.
One of the most amusing and memorable parts of the hotel is the art scattered throughout the property. It feels like stepping into a historical timepiece with a modern, quirky twist. If you’re an artsy person or someone who enjoys Hungarian humor, you’ll love the clever details — like the “Lemon Lisa” cocktail served with a Mona Lisa coaster showing her sipping the same drink, or famous paintings reimagined with iPhones, headphones, and modern touches. Every corner reveals a little nugget of creativity, from gold accents to playful art pieces that make you smile.
The staff was professional, friendly, and quick to help with anything we needed. The breakfast was delicious and the perfect start before heading out to explore the city. Five stars and highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing, affordable luxury stay in Budapest with a dash of artistic fun.
