Isla Holbox, Mexico, Travel Guide

"A 38-suite, Marriott-affiliated resort that pairs the island's laid-back vibe with familiar resort comforts: a spacious beachfront with cabanas, tents and numerous beach chairs, waterfront dining at the Fresco Bar & Grill, and the ability to use rewards points to upgrade to swim-out suites or oceanfront rooms with balconies." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. This was an amazing hotel to stay at. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Food is 10/10 at the restaurant- delicious breakfast, yummy fish tacos and burgers, fresh flavourful salads. Cocktails were just ok. We found everything very clean and the beach has a super chill vibe without some of the seaweed seen elsewhere. Special shout out to Laura and Marianne for being so kind!

We had a not-so-great experience with this hotel, I stayed in 3 rooms in 3 days! At our arrival, we found out there was a big construction next to the hotel and the noise was TERRIBLE! They must let guests in advance to expect extremely loud days while staying here. Then the reception lady "assumed" that we were 2 women and we were friends, so she instantly changed the room we had paid for and gave us a double room which we didn't accept. We are married! So, the manager very kindly gave us another room, that had NO privacy at all, so they changed us again, and surprise the AC didn't work properly. The staff was very nice to us all the time, but it was a pain the whole experience. In summary, the location is good, beach is wonderful, pool just ok, and rooms are not what they advertised. If you are staying here between june 2025 and maybe a year from nowbe prepared to a very noisy stay!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a massage at the Mystic Hotel Spa in Holbox, and it was truly exceptional. My therapist, Yessi, was incredibly professional and delivered a deep muscle massage that was both therapeutic and deeply relaxing. She is clearly a true expert at her craft and made a real difference in how I felt. The spa itself is clean, beautiful, and offers a serene atmosphere that enhances the entire experience. The team at Mystic Hotel is warm and welcoming, and the venue is truly unique — a perfect setting to unwind and recharge. I highly encourage anyone visiting Holbox to treat themselves to a session with Yessi. You won’t be disappointed!

Small hotel that has a boutique feel. The area reminds me what Isla Mujeres and Tulum were 20 years ago. I was there with my 2 kids. Their favorite part was in downtown when a group of kids asked them to join their volleyball game. They love meeting people and exchanging contact info to remain in touch. I loved their piña colada made from real ingredients. The rooms looked new, fresh, bright, and minimal. My style.

The pictures online of Mystique make this hotel look way more high end than it does in person. Before my trip I had gotten a spray tan and some of it transferred onto the sheets during my stay. I was told upon checking out that I would not be getting my security deposit of $135 back due to “ruined” sheets (anyone who’s ever had a spray tan knows that it EASILY washes out of fabrics with a mild detergent). This felt very scammy and left a bad taste in my mouth honestly. Although the staff was friendly, I would not stay at this hotel again.

Do not stay here. The property is not 5 star. The rooms are dirty and need a lot of work. The sheets were awful and thin. The restaurant is very small and the service is not good. They ran out of a lot of things. Do not expect much at all in the restaurant. The ocean view room (which you pay more for) is a joke. Tiny balcony looking mostly at a vacant lot. Small view of the water. The other rooms face a dirty street and vacant lot. There were full trash cans on the street. My daughter in law said “Our view is rubbish bins” My husband and I were put in between 2 families with 5 small children. They ran back and forth and slammed doors at all hours starting at 6a. No way to sleep in no chance for a nap. We asked multiple times to move and were told it wasn’t possible due to check ins. My son had an accident and we had to check out a day early for emergency surgery in America. He broke his nose and a sinus after tripping on a cement block. The medical care is very limited. He was able to get stitches and an antibiotic but that was all that was available. Upon checking out a day early the GM assured me we would get our points back by calling Marriott. I know think he was just telling me that so that after I left I would have no recourse. I called Marriott Bonvoy at least 6 times and they reached out to the hotel and the GM. Apparently it’s fairly simple to just release the points. I finally emailed the GM directly and the Blue Diamond resorts. They both refused. We stayed at Casa las Tortugas last year and it was amazing. The rooms were clean and the service was impeccable. This property is not typical Marriott standards.

Not even close to a 5 star resort. My wife had gotten a spray tan before coming to the island. Some of it transferred to the sheets while staying there. We were charged $135 for new sheets, maybe worth $40 at most as they were terrible sheets. Spray tan will always wash right out of sheets with mild detergent. Pool view room was laughable. If playing to stay here there are so many better options on the island. I have stayed at many places on this island and this is one of the worst.

My family and I stayed here for three days and did not have a good experience with the cleanliness of the rooms. The room we requested was to be in king bed, upon check in she stated she had us in double beds. We asked her she can put us in a room with a king bed. The first room we checked in too, there was moldy residue left on our pillows, red stains on the towels and hair on the cups the provided in the bathroom. I went downstairs and kindly requested a room change and advised her of my concerns and she stated the reason the room is in that condition. is because that was not the original room for us. The rooms should be clean regardless. The second room we checked in to while my 1 yr old and I were sleeping, my husband noticed a big yellow stain on the comforter. Once we pulled them back, we noticed soiled sheets. We requested to talk to the manager at this point but he was unavailable. The next day while out on the island, we come back to red spots all over the sink and floor. Another visit to the hostess and we were told the manager is going to provide free breakfast along with a refund for the breakfast we had that morning at the hotel. Although they were completely apologetic and we did receive a complimentary breakfast for 1 day, they never fulfilled their promise on a refund.
