12 Historic European Spas and Bathhouses for a Wellness Getaway | Condé Nast Traveler

"Providing all-day amusement and relaxation in the form of a capacious milky—and mineral-rich— blue lagoon (about 100 degrees Fahrenheit), steam baths, and a swim-up bar serving both hard and soft drinks, this bathhouse is popular among visitors and locals alike. Located less than 300 miles from Reykjavík , Mývatn is a worthy stop and stayover on the Iceland trail, and the geothermal baths of Mývatn, a designated nature reserve, provides a deeply edifying respite from some of the country’s more active pursuits. Although you’re unlikely to be surprised by the stunning Northern Icelandic scenery at this point, the peaceful, pleasant surroundings with views for days doesn’t hurt." - Stacey Lastoe

Iceland Itineraries: From 1 Weekend to 1 Month (Updated 2025)

"I soaked at the Mývatn Nature Baths where the silica‑rich water (37–39°C / 98–102°F) creates a quiet, milky blue pool that felt much more relaxed and budget‑friendly compared with the Blue Lagoon (admission listed as 6,490 ISK)." - Matthew Kepnes

18 Ways To Save Money in Iceland (Updated 2025)

"I warn that facilities like the Mývatn Nature Baths can charge steep extras (towel fees are commonly around 500 ISK), so I always bring my own towel to avoid those costs." - Matthew Kepnes

Great thermal experience. Great location. Very picturesque surroundings. Has restaurant on site. Was one of last client before renovation starts to extend the thermal baths.

A wonderful geothermal experience at the Mývatn Nature Baths, also known as the Earth Lagoon. Advance booking is highly recommended due to limited slot availability. The artificially heated mineralized water pools are soothing and help rejuvenate the body after a long day of travel. Entry costs 7,500 ISK per person for a 3-hour session, which feels reasonable for the relaxing atmosphere. The poolside bar adds a touch of luxury, while the dining area offers tasty and affordable food (not included in the entry price). The pools are quite shallow, so be prepared to squat or sit low in the water. Don’t miss leaning along the pool edges to take in the stunning surrounding views — a perfect blend of comfort and Icelandic beauty.

Enjoyed our visit here. Not overly crowded. Quick walk from the parking area to get inside. Short walk from the changing rooms to get into the baths. We spent almost all of our time in the back right corner of the bath on the right. It was a nice warm area.

Very nice experience, friendly and helpful staff. Got there when they opened, and it filled up during the first hour, but would not say it was overcrowded at all. One can buy drinks at the pool, something we didn’t do. Three different pools with different temperatures. They are renovation and expanding at the moment, but we did not notice anything of it and it did not affect the experience. The restaurant was very busy when we left.

What a beautiful hot springs. Definitely worth the stop. Excellent facilities and courteous staff. Amazing blue water that will soothe your body and soul. What makes this even better you dont have to deal with massive crowds. The water on the left side is definitely hotter but felt great.

I would probably have rated this higher if I hadn't experienced how great the spa named Vök was. Because the contrast between the changing rooms between the two was impossible to ignore. Mud on the floor, no dry spaces, no private changing booths, and people everywhere. The smell of sulfur was tolerable and worth it for the color and experiance of the nature bath, and once in the water the place was spacious enough for relaxation. The surroundings are also very pretty. We were not bothered by the renovations at all and I do hope the new building will offer better changing rooms.

It was inconvenient how you have to pay extra money 1,100 ISK just to use a towel and almost 2k for a gown. Also, as soon as you get off the car you will smell sulfur. It felt really uncomfortable for me at first but I adapted to it after 20 minutes. They were still performing construction nearby so it was a little bit distracting and noisy but the experience at the baths was nice. The place consists of three different lagoons, two steam rooms, and a cafe. They also sold a couple of 66North products by the reception. The showers had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Some lagoons didn’t have body wash which was inconvenient. The staff was friendly and spoke English and Spanish friendly. They have a bar which sold drinks but you needed to pay by card or by an nfc token that they give you at the reception. If you don’t ask for it at the reception then it is inconvenient as you have to go out to get it and they explain it to you but didn’t really seem to offer it to you. The waters weren’t warm enough for me. The bottom of the lagoons were sand. The place is not too big so I feel like it is a bit over priced. It is also unfortunate that they do not sell food at the cafe. They also had a small area where they sold ice cream, water and a bunch of energy drinks. They also have an area where they provide water for you by the lagoon. They also have sun beds. To give you a conclusion: if you’re interested in taking pictures for your social media this place has good lighting and the color of the water is nice but if you’re here just to try it out then I think it’s best that you don’t raise your expectations especially if you’ve been to other lagoons near Reykjavik.

Not the worst, not the best. Pools are nice and blue, however, only 1 out of 3 was open due to renovation and still had to pay full price. The pool bar would only accept card, so you had to bring your valuables to the pool side. 50 euros for everything open would be worth it probably, 50 euros for one pool with heavy machinery around was not.
