"Lake Myvatn Geothermal Site During summer the northern parts of Iceland get almost continuous daylight. The area around Lake Myvatn is ridiculously scenic - and not a little surreal - with geothermal areas (pictured), volcanic lakes and more. This image was taken at 11pm!"

Mývatn is the premier area in Iceland to see a wonderful variety of birds. From waterfowl, to phalaropes, to gulls & terns, to the occasional Gyrfalcon - Mývatn has it all. Any passionate bird watcher must take the trek to Mývatn at least once in their birding journeys. You can spend 3-4 days birding the lake and the surrounding area. Mývatn lives up to all the rave reviews. You will not be disappointed!

This beauty is a view from lake . We were lucky to see a rainbow there. The lake was semi frozen but we could see the volcanic mountains very clearly. You just want to keep roaming around this place , it is so so beautiful. The cold breeze makes it a little difficult though but you will love things around here.

Myvatn is a very specific place and our stay in this area was unforgettable due to the amazing atmosphere of the place and the time of day (after 10 p.m.) we didn't see anyone in the area apart from one campervan. Amazing landscapes, roaring wind and a truly mysterious aura that is difficult to describe. However, before we got here, we covered the section from Husavik along a road full of amazing landscapes which, although they are practically everywhere in Iceland, were an amazing setting for the magical place called Myvatn! Husavik - Myvatn route 87

Beautiful lake, lots of old volcanos and craters, worth a visit! Best spot to look at northern lights, even in snow-covered April!

Beautiful place to visit with tons to do. We went in early summer. Everyone in the area is super sweet and there are comfortable and unique accommodations all around. The mineral bath here is sublime.

This place is surrounded by lots of things to see and hundreds of hiking trails. Came for one day but decided to stay a little longer there. At the end of the day spent three nights there at Vogar campsite. Fully enjoyed the camping there and hiking trails. The only disappointment there was tons of little gnats. They were all over the area. Along my 12 days trip around Iceland I had not seen these little gnats elsewhere nearly at the same quantity as at Miva.

Great area to watch birds and hike with your family. The views are stunning. We decided to stay 4 nights on the lakeside to explore the hidden secrets.
