10 Ethical Animal Places to Visit in 2019

"Founded in 1964, the Nairobi Animal Orphanage houses and treats over 20 animal and bird species in need of rehabilitation after injury or abandonment. Lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas, ostriches, parrots, and more inhabit the orphanage, which welcomes over 200,000 visitors each year. The Nairobi Animal Orphanage is both a conservation facility for animals in need and an educational resource for the public—mainly school children who wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to see these animals in the wild. While it’s far from the majesty of seeing these creatures healthy in their natural habitats, each of the animals in the Nairobi Animal Orphanage has been taken in by park rangers to receive medical treatment before being placed in an individualized rehabilitation program for a second chance at life. The goal of the orphanage is to strengthen the animals so they may eventually be released back into the wild. The Nairobi Animal Orphanage is located just inside Nairobi National Park just 20 minutes from the center of Nairobi—billed by African Spice Safaris as the world’s only city which doubles as a safari capital for unbridled wildlife sightings. Day tours of the orphanage are available for booking." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

If you’re looking for a unique wildlife experience in Nairobi, the Nairobi Animal Orphanage is a great place to visit. Located inside Nairobi National Park, it’s home to rescued animals like lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, monkeys, and rare birds. I loved how close you can get to the animals. It’s perfect for photography and learning about Kenya’s wildlife. Each animal has a story, and the staff are friendly and informative. The orphanage is affordable for both locals and tourists, and it’s ideal for a short day trip in Nairobi. I recommend going in the morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler and the animals are more active. If you’re a content creator or wildlife enthusiast, this is a must-see spot in Nairobi! 📍 Great for: • Nature lovers • Solo travelers • Families with kids • Local and international tourists • Content creators and photographers 💡 Travel tip: Combine your visit with the nearby Safari Walk or a Nairobi National Park tour for the full experience. ⭐ Overall rating: 4/5 📸 Don’t forget your camera! Bring one or a phone with good zoom for better animal shots 💵Entrance fees indicated in one of the photos.

Rescued animals being taken care of here. Amazing place. Please note that around 2.30 Mr Gerald will be feeding the animals. Gerald is a nice guy whose taken care of most of the big cats since they were cubs from about 20 years ago. Get to know him and watch him feed, it's the best part. Thank me later. Cheers

Opted for the animal orphanage as the safari walk was about 2 km and is geared more for adults. The orphanage was perfect for 3 and 4 year olds. Cost for non resident - Adult 3000Ksh, children 1700. Animals - Lions, Leopard, Cheetah, Several cat, monkey, baboon, tortoise, Buffalo, peacock, crown crane, hyenas, warthog. One hour is more than sufficient. Only worth if not doing a safari in Kenya.

Probably the only place on Kenya where you can see the animals inside a cage. In all other places like Amboseli, Naivasha and Masai Mara you only get to see them out in the wild. The peak experience is feeding the leopard 🐆 and letting it lick your arms to feel the sandpaper texture in its tongue 👅.
