I came across this place over the summer by accident when driving around during the shutdown when nothing was open. I had it on my short list of places to try since it looked like a really cool place to dine out at.
Cool and fun is definitely the word to best describe Naked Burger! Walking in, it's not terribly big, but well decorated and very hip. There isn't much of a waiting area so I didn't know where to go. I noticed a sign a few feet ahead of me and what appeared to be a hostess station. I walked up and it said to please wait to be seated. I stood in the middle of the restaurant, awkwardly waiting for someone to approach me.
Here's where stuff got awkward. I will explain it the best I can to try and be fair. First, I don't remember if the host was wearing a face mask or not, but I was. Several patrons were looking at me funny, and I think it was because I was "masked up." The host was a bit short with me, and asked if I had a reservation through their website. I said no, as I wasn't familiar with their policy and it was my first time here. He went through a list while I waited. I don't know if he was stressed out or maybe he didn't like me all that much. I couldn't tell. I thought he was going to turn me away for a minute. Why? I don't know. Really weird right off the bat.
Eventually, A seat at the bar opened up a few seconds later and a bartender was wiping it down. They had up plastic dividers at the bar, so I had two empty spaces on either side of me. Cool, a place to put my purse, some extra elbow room and all for Covid 19 restrictions!
There were two bartenders working at the bar, and I had to get their attention to ask a few questions and place my order. Again, I don't know what the deal is here, but I think they were ignoring me. I know they were busy but both didn't want to make eye contact until I flagged them down, despite both of them literally working right in front of my face. Yet another odd interaction with the staff. Weird.
I ordered the Naked Burger and it came with fries and I stuck it out with water since I wasn't in the mood for drinks. Let me tell you, the burger rocked it and was fabulous. I was extremely happy with how it came out, and I was impressed since their prices are a bit on the higher end. ($13 to $15 average for a burger with fries, not including drinks or extras like specialty items.)
In regards to food and décor, definitely exceeded my expectations and they do it right here. Prices I felt were on point and the quality of the food was excellent for me. But, here's where they lost points for me. I wouldn't say the service was bad, but I sense there's an attitude with working here. I've noticed some reviewers had poor service like I did, for no apparent reason. It seems to draw a certain crowd here, maybe more on the uppity, scenster side of things, I can't tell, but even some of the patrons here had an attitude about them. I'm not sure why. It's hard to explain.
Eventually, the barenders' did warm up to me and took care of me, but the initial contacts with the host and getting my order placed was kind of frustrating and not very positive. It also took a while for my food to come out, which I expected because it was busy. Or maybe it was part of the "ignore this customer" mantage that seems to be going on randomly at this establishment.
I really did enjoy my experience here and the food is top notch. I haven't had a burger this good in some time, so that was refreshing and worth the time. But, if the staff losses the attitude, I would bump it up to 5 stars.
