These British Columbia Mountains Have a 530-mile Natural Hot Springs Trail — How to Plan Your Trip

"A secluded, community-owned thermal oasis tucked into the Kuskanax Valley about eight miles off the main highway, where two mineral-rich forest-fed pools (107 F and 100 F) sit amid foggy, densely timbered foothills. The site includes an RV park, campground and cozy A-frame chalets with kitchens and lofted bedrooms, and a short walk through old-growth Western Red Cedar leads to a dramatic covered Douglas-fir footbridge spanning the Kusunax River." - Leilani Marie Labong Leilani Marie Labong Leilani Marie Labong is a San Francisco-based journalist who focuses on food, design, and travel. We have been going to nakusp for many years. Always in September to avoid the summer business. We had the best 5 nights, beautiful weather, awesome hikes and many May soaks. The staff is great. They try hard to make everyone happy. A shout out to Michelle, John , Lizabeth and any one else whose path I may have crossed. 🩷 We always leave well rested and planning our next trip there. ❤️ Highly recommend the farmers market and the Mediterranean restaurant down town. The local winery is also 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Always an enjoyable and relaxing spot. Nestled in the middle of a forest next to the creek for a nice soak in one of two natural hotsprings pools. In the summer the hot pool is cooled down to a nice 85° instead of 104 in the cooler seasons. Very scenic in all seasons. There are nice hiking trails to a remote lake or to the old hot springs, the source of the hot water in the thermal pools. A rough trail exists on the other side of the creek for hiking back to town. I used to hike that trail as a teen. There is a bit of camping and a few chalet cabins available. Though I have never stayed over. And there is even decent cell phone reception. Snacks and local goods are also available. The caribou nursery is right next to it as well. Always friendly and helpful staff too!

My original plan was to do the hike to the lake and take a dip and hit the road again but honestly fell in love with everything about this hidden gem. Friendly staff, clean and well managed amenities so I decided to come back the next day hiking from town (didn’t stay at their resort due to relatively higher fees for the tent sites lol). This trail was longer than the lake hike but absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended for people who are into hiking and want to relax after. Not recommended on weekend though as Sunday was really busy.

Went there with my husband for a day soak. Nice older facility. One main pool and a smaller kitty sized pool. No frills or thrills which is fine with us. Seems to be family friendly. The locker rooms are nice and clean. My only complaint would be the locker rental should be included in admission but not a deal breaker .

My husband and I spent an amazing two days at the resort. We stayed in one of the small chalets it was clean and well maintained. Staff were wonderful taking as much time as we needed to ask question about the resort. A lovely piece of Kootenay history.

Spent a lovely evening at the Nakusp hot springs with my family. It was a beautiful view and the hot springs were perfect. My only criticism is that there is no one policing the patrons who are otherwise not there to relax and enjoy the peace and serenity of the hot springs (i.e. kids screaming and splashing while they play Marco-polo)

Gorgeous building and lovely staff. We didn’t stay at the lodging facilities and instead deoooed in so I really can’t comment on that. It was clean and bright and well cared for at the pool. The pool itself could use some re-tiling, but all in all in was a nice stop!

Meh, Saturday, crowded and smaller than I remembered. The 'lobster pot' was gone. The main pool was 101F/38.5c, but the smaller pool has been 'converted' from a hot pool into a 'play pool' w/ temps around 80F/26.5c, so only one mild 'hot pool' left. Nakusp Hot Springs needs an upgrade; a second hotter hot pool, a cold plunge, and better lighting. There are other 'hot springs' options for this local area. The scenic Nakusp trail system w/ the bridge is still there.

Yelp
Went for a two night stay in rv site D I recommend all long Rvs over 36 feet to book up at sight A through D but only offers 120 volt 15 amp Close walk to hot springs pool This is a very large pool and hot tub facility I went in twice over the day For 1 hour and I must say I get amazed And fresh with a revived spirit The fresh water to drink come from the mountain stream which is real good for you as well

Yelp
Review Visit: July 17th, 2015 I have quite warmed up to the fact that Hot Springs are the best thing ever. Banff Upper Hot Springs is where I got my first taste. A few days later, we finally decided to do something besides explore Nakusp. We got everyone on the same page and headed towards Nakusp Hot Springs. Anticipations were high as everyone was ready for more relaxation and soothing scorching hot water. As we rolled up and got out of the van, the first thing I noticed is how quiet it was. Banff National Park is a really tourist-heavy area. Firstly, we had trouble parking due to the volume of people. Then, the pool was decently filled with people. But not here. The lot was nearly empty and there wasn't anybody in sight. The girls beat us in as they were more excited about it than us adults. Inside, it was apparent that it was a slow day for them. There was no line and before we knew it, we paid, changed clothes and were dipping our toes in the hot water. The water here was about the same temperate as the other hot spring. Its just hot enough to make you wonder if this is a good idea or not. After awhile, you body adjusts to it and you kind of just melt. Not literally, of course. As I expected, there were only a handful of people in the hot spring. This was great as the pool here was a bit smaller than the other. There was also a hotter spring next to the main pool that held the hotter water. Of course, we jumped in there after awhile. But again, we could only be in the hotter one for a short while as it will make you feel dehydrated and light-headed. It wouldn't be a trip to the hot springs if I didn't get out and do the cold shower during our time at this one. It was cold. It was intense. It was worth it. I convinced my cousin to do it as well and he was none-too-pleased after the fact. Everyone got a good laugh out of it. Overall, it was a good and relaxing experience before we all got geared up for the wedding that was a few days after this. I got my first taste of a hot spring in Banff. I fell in love with them in Nakusp.

Yelp
Beautiful .. just a great natural gem...also felt great afterwards.. can't say if it was a placebo effect but all those minerals can't hurt

Yelp
Stayed the weekend in a chalet here, amazing accommodation! The chalets are clean and very cozy. Everything you need in the kitchen, pots, pans, plates, cups, wine glasses, toaster, coffee maker, kettle.... Everything! Also cable TV in the room, unnecessary but appreciated by the kid! The chalets are reasonably priced for what you're getting. Right next to the hot spring so you can pop over for a soak whenever you like. The hot spring admission price is super reasonable too. $11 for a day pass come and go as you want! Highly recommend a get away here!
