Rice Cake Master 南大門

Just tried the new Peach Oolong Milk Tea and it's absolutely delicious! 🥤✨ What I loved most is that it wasn't too sweet! You could taste the oolong tea and the peach flavor perfectly. So refreshing and just spot on! Will definitely be ordering this again. Highly recommend!

Walked in to buy a rice cake, and found out they are offering milk tea this summer. Tastes great and definitely a solid option when I don’t want to go all the way to Metrotown. Will try their ice tea next time.

Very underwhelming. Got the osmanthus rice cake and it’s very bland except for the syrup on top. The texture is not fluffy nor soft. Maybe I have to resteam it? But there’s really no osmanthus flavour beside the syrup. Very pricey for 10$… just some bland stiff rice cake… I know they’re not supposed to sticky like mochi, but I was expecting a lighter texture, between a 松糕and 糯米糕。but it was weird and stiff. It’s IG worthy tho, nice decor and nice staff. But overpriced and underwhelming. UPDATE: finally figured out why the texture is weird. After resteaming and forcing down three more pieces. The bottom 30% was not properly risen. So it had the texture of a gummy muffin… the top 70% part is how it’s supposed to be though - dryer, slightly fluffy. Hope they improve their technique soon!

I had the chance to try both the red bean cake and the osmanthus rice cake. While the red bean cake was decent, I found the rice cake a bit disappointing — it was on the dry side and didn’t come with enough sauce, which made the overall texture less enjoyable. In terms of taste, it was quite ordinary, and the pricing wasn’t particularly impressive either. Overall, it was a rather average experience.

We love Mochi/Dango and have been all over Japan trying it, we were excited to try this. The mochi was soft and the filling was nice, was it worth 5 bucks maybe. The service was great, but it scored low on the amount of over packaging for this product not environmentally friendly at all.

With my friends been there for almost 5 times??? They constantly come out new desserts!! I really love their desserts with sticky rice and red beans etc, most of them tastes not too sweet but purely enjoyable!!kinda both nutrient and tasty, comfort desserts tho!

Love the Soybean glutinous rice cake and redbean glutinous rice cake the most. They're soft and chewy. Very nice to see the package with reusable insulation bag that keep the products cool or warm.

A spot with mochis filled with creative flavours. There's something for everybody. The fried dough is unfortunately only at the Richmond location. I tried the persimmon lava mochi which I thought would be like a custard steamed bun but it was really a ripe persimmon inside. All the other flavours I tried were good too (mango and durian).

Korean cake place by Royal Oak and Imperial. Space is shared with Lurou Fan Tasty. Parking is available (metered) along Royal Oak. There are also some free spots on Imperial in the evening. Inside is nice and modern. Feels like a bubble tea shop. Staff (1 guy) was friendly and helpful. The rice cakes are actually quite tasty. Served in "loafs" of 4 pieces. Keep in mind that these desserts are Asian style, and therefore much less sweet than western style desserts. The cake was served warm/hot. Everything tasted pretty fresh.

Tried their Szechuan style spicy cold noodles. It is super small. Just a couple bites for $9. It tastes really good but it is expensive for cheaper ingredients. It would be nice for them to put more noodle and veggies. It only filled half the container.

Its been a while since I've visited this location and while the interior is the same, they seem to not have a lot of products available! 3/4 of the items I was looking for were not available during my visit so I left and came again another day. Unfortunately, they were still out of the items even though I went earlier on in the day and it was a week day which was disappointing. With that said the food is tasty and I would recommend if you love rice cakes

A few of us tried a few mochis for the first time at the Burnaby location. The review is only based on the mochis. The ratings are from 1(worse) to 5 (best) star. All the mochis had a nice smooth texture and were a decent size. Mango mochi - 4 star - filled with fresh mango and light whipped cream. The mango was just ripe. Not overly sweet. Slightly mushy. Durian mochi - 5 star - if you LOVE Durian, you won't be disappointed. It's filled with fresh durian (I am not a durian fan but I could smell it even before it was opened) and lightly whipped cream. A bit on the pricey side, over $10 with taxes. Purple Sweet Potato & Sweet Red Bean mochi - 3 star - the four of us all agreed it looked prettier than the taste. Blah tasting. The place is located off Imperial and Royal Oak in Burnaby. There are 2 locations on the west coast and one on the east coast of Canada. When you walk in, not all the choices are visible. I am not sure if they sold out early or it because they only offer a limited quantity per day. Note the menu on their website isn't the same as the one posted at the store. I would have tried the matcha mochi. There are a couple of interesting combinations (salted egg yolk) if you love trying different things. Over the top on the packaging.

Second store of Nam Dae Moon just opened in Burnaby. We visited today and get some freshly made rice cakes home. I've got Soybean glutinous rice cake, Redbean glutinous rice cake, and lava persimmon mochi. I personally like the Soybean and redbean the most. They're soft and great texture. The soybean rice cake reminds me a flavor that I had try in childhood. Persimmon mochi also not bad as the filling is real ripped persimmon. But the mochi skin is a bit too much. They are very nice and packed our order with the insulation bag which will be useful for future use.

Nice place. Very organized. I bought two rice cake. Not expected the taste but I tried. I prefer "puto," that this .... Sorry. I have to be honest.

I love the decorations inside the store. They have a beautiful flower wall. Perfect for photos I tried their & . It was overload with ingredients. It's perfect for summer time. All the desserts are ! Follow me on ig for more. ( @kiki.foodie.604 )

I came here once and ordered their bento box and thought their rice was good. That time I had a young lady helping me and she was very nice. The strawberry mochi I had wasn't very good though. So I decided I wanted the rice again and it came in a bowl for only $6.99. It wasn't fried rice but it was steamed with cabbage and bits of Chinese sausage and preserved shrimp. I called and asked the lady on the phone and she seemed annoyed. I told her I wanted to put in an order now so I can come pick it up in 2 mins I don't live far. She told me to just come into the store and she will do it then. That should've been the red flag for me. I came in and she was this overweight angry looking lady with a scowl. After I paid someone else came in I saw her scooping the rice out of the rice cooker. So I stood in the corner waiting. After 5 mins of I noticed she was serving the other customer so I asked her if my order was ready. Instead she glared at me and just pointed to a bag on top of the counter never once did she tell me my food was ready. I will never step foot in that establishment again with attitude and lack of customer service like that. The rice wasn't as tasty this time and it was just greasy and bland. If it was as good as last time, I'd be honest about it. I also would rather not have to deal with rude mean people who hate their job.
