Was just there last night. The ambience was nice, I enjoyed the roomy booth for the 4 of us, the warm lighting set the tone & of high importance to my old ears, was that it wasn't too loud or crazy in there on a Sunday around 4ish.
I was boardering hangry so that didn't help my attitude and impatience. But after sitting what seemed like too long, we flagged down a not-so-doting server & asked him if he can take our order. He did. Turned out he wasn't our server and I'm glad because I liked the 2nd guy who waited on us a lot better.
I didn't know if I wanted the salmon skin salad, my go-to, or the avocado salad. The server recommended the avocado one. So glad I opted for that one because not only was it good, sweet and healthy, it was prettily presented with a purple orchid on the side.
I wanted a low carb option, Hubbs wants sashimi all the time, kiddo wanted a roll, so we compromised & decided on a sushi boat that costs around $72. It came with a bunch of sashimi, nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and the Fresno roll.
The spicy tuna was okay, I wouldn't get it again, but it was okay. The Fresno roll I definitely wouldn't get again because I like raw fish. It was big, but just not my cup of tea. The sashimi I didn't really eat but Japanese Hubby kept commenting on the off putting color. For instance, why was the maguro on the nigiri and sashimi 2 different shades of red one dark as blood, one light as pale skin in the snow ? Why was the hamachi a weird color? Suddenly, I was concerned with stomach issue on our 2.5 hour drive home. Would I be pulled over on the side of the road on anxiously rushing to get to the nearest stinky gas station bathroom?
The side salad was good tasting, but the iceberg lettuce was literally swimming in dressing. It had more dressing than lettuce, not even exaggerating.
Granddad had the teriyaki chicken bento. He shared the chicken & California roll. I tried the tempura onion and my carb loving kiddo said it was too much batter. I agree. The tempura sauce needed an oomph of flavor.
All in all, it was average sushi. Good service, acceptable ambience, but I don't think I'd be back. That's too bad because the teppanyaki option on the other side looked like a nice option, the restaurant big & roomy for parties, looks like it has lots of potential.
