Namib Dune Star Camp, Gondwana Collection Namibia

The overall experience was nice. However we got under the impression that this place would be straightforward and not mass-tourism oriented. If you want a retreat where you do things on your own in the dunes, this is NOT the place. From check-in, we were told that dinner was NOT included in the package, which is written absolutely nowhere on their website. We said we would bring some food up there and they were confused because it's expected to have dinner and follow the group for activities. I wish this was written somewhere, as this is truly false advertising. When we got transported to the camp, personnel and rooms were very nice and professional. But when we asked again about dinner, they said both dinner and sun downer would be included in the price we paid at booking. When we left the camp the next morning, we got a call from the reception saying extras were due. We booked this place to be in peace and take photos of the night sky. We got peace but it was barely possible to take good photos due to people and personnel movement and light pollution from the kitchen/rooms. When we compare the amount of money we paid with the service received, it is so far the worst experience we've had in Namibia out of the seven establishments we visited. This is a mass tourism property and communication is quite poor. Food was on the okay side, which was a plus. Our guide was very nice, which kind of made up for this but we really feel cheated and swindled. I would definitely not recommend the place.

Setting was perfect, people were amazing. The view was incredible. One minor detail, the schedule was too packed making the dinner at a fast pace where we would expect to have more time to enjoy. Kudos to Tony, very good guide! Thank you for this very nice experience.

Amazing views, lovely staff, and an overall unique experience. Food was decent but starters could have been better. You have to wait a bit for the showers to get hot because of the solar power but they’re nice. If you’re the first to shower just don’t shut it off when you’re finished, let your partner/friend jump in immediately after your shower to ensure they get a hot shower with good pressure. If you love sunrise over sunset then ask for cabin 9.

Facilities are a bit rustic, but sleeping under the stars at night is fantastic. We saw many shooting stars. The surrounding landscape is very beautiful.

Beautiful and unique experience - even though we had a cloudy sky. Waking up to a magnificent sunrise, fresh air and 2 majestic Oryx standing 5m away from us is something that not everyone has the privilege to experience - great Full! Big shout out to Tony - our guide who added a bubbly and positive atmosphere to our short stay there - thank you! Also, for couples that want some privacy and for the best sunrise view, ROOM 9 is the one to choose, it’s a bit of a walk, but totally worth it! Unfortunately we weren’t able to shower in the morning, as the water pressure was almost none existent and my steak for dinner was a bit tough, minor details that are easily changed ;)

Dune Star camp is really unique and a wonderful experience. It is amazing to be able to walk and sleep up on a dune in the desert. It is great being looked after by a friendly guide/host. Gondwana have made accessing the Namib convenient and pleasant. GO2, the shuttle service, is convenient and effective. Staff are friendly and helpful. Namib Desert Lodge has all you need and the website helps you understand the offerings and book. The Accommodation is perfect...simple, comfortable, thoughtfully comprehensive. The drives and walks add a lot. Research carefully and phone to put things together, because the time of your shuttle and desired day outing may not easily align. Food is great. Service is good, relaxed, at desert pace. Guides are pleasant and know enough to add to the experience., but not nature experts. Vehicles are all very comfortable and reliable. Plenty of snacks on excursions. Fair value for all aspects.

I highly recommend a stay at Gondwana Dune Star Camp. Apart from the 5 star service, food & accommodation it is the rempoteness & elevation of the camp itself which gives the special namib desert magic. Our guide was extremely knowledgable, enthusiastic & added that extra touch!

We recently stayed here for one night. Beautiful lodge with very cozy interior in the rooms and at main building. Familiar atmosphere and nice and attentive stuff as well. Breakfast and dinner are incredibly good. The atmosphere at the lodge at the possibility of "Sleeping under the stars" is incredibly beautiful. Special thanks to our guide Viva.
