My best friend wanted to come here for his birthday, so we did! Came on a Friday around 7 pm and it was already super crowded — we got seated upstairs (level 2). The place had that old-school zi char vibe, quite nostalgic actually if you were to ask me.
We ordered the Grouper Fish Head Steamboat ($39), Homemade Beancurd, Omelette, Sambal Kang Kong, Prawn Paste Chicken and rice — total came up to $98.70 for 3 pax. We were definitely full, but honestly… the steamboat was great yet nothing mind-blowing. A little overhyped and underwhelming in my opinion — just felt like any other decent fish head steamboat.
My favourite dishes were actually the Homemade Beancurd and (weirdly) the Omelette 🤭 Both simple but done well. The Prawn Paste Chicken though — I remember it being really good the first time I came, but this round it tasted a little bland… maybe we just got unlucky that day 😅
Service was a little slow too, maybe because it was a busy Friday night. My friend and I were busy gossiping so we didn’t notice at first, but when we checked the time — the Fish Head Steamboat actually took close to 25 minutes to be served 😬
Do note that it’s almost always full house, so do reserve in advance if you can (though I’m not sure why it’s always packed — I don’t quite think it is worth the hype 😅).
Overall, I’d say it’s a spot you can visit if you’re already in the area and craving some fish head steamboat — but to travel down specially for it? Nah, probably not. Good meal, but price-wise and taste-wise, it didn’t quite wow me.
