Google
Great view from the upper floor, excellent food!! Service was wonderful and for an October day, they said the sun will come out, and it did!!! Can't wait to go back.

Google
This restaurant has been here for a while. Bar area was very busy at 5:30 dining room half full the Chowder should have been better being that we're on an island clams were a little tough happy chicken Taco the chicken was boiled had no flavor. Sat inside bar and was not given silverware after giving food It's seems like certain places in the restaurant and staff for overwhelmed and others were very slow standing around. Great atmosphere.

James R.

Google
Loved the seafood. Fried Scallops were the sweetest, tastiest ever. The clam chowdah ( Boston accent) was really good. Creamy and full of clams, potatoes and great flavor. The crab cake sandwich on Brioche was awesome great flavor. The fries were crisp and the coleslaw was tangy and fresh. The drinks were very cold and refreshing after a day exploring on the island.

Google
Great bar restaurant on Nantucket - Outstanding service and the food too! - I had the Turkey Club Sandwich with Cranberry and avocado which was first rate. We sat on the 2nd story outside deck which had cool winds blowing from the bay- Highly recommend

Google
You are definitely paying for the view here. The food was mediocre, if that. The coleslaw was horrible and when I tried to make it better with salt and pepper, the salt grinder I was given was empty. No mayo or mustard was provided with a burger. At a minimum one would expect to be asked if the plate didn't come with either condiment. The server I had seemed like he would prefer to be any place but at his job. He did the bare minimum but never smiled once. Another server who I asked for help from I could tell was annoyed because I wasn't in her section. She was at least willing to find my server who brought me what I needed. In general the staff here seems quite apathetic to working here as evidenced by the empty salt grinder. It's a shame because this place could be great with the view of the harbor.

Google
Good selection of local beers and nice view overlooking the water. Seems like it’s always packed as it’s right in the downtown area. Nice place to have a drink but as others have mentioned the food is just mediocre. Needed better seasoning/higher quality ingredients but overall not bad for bar food. Nice place to grab a drink and enjoy the view. Also the staff is friendly.

Google
Our server, Kelly, was wonderful. Very attentive, friendly, helpful and not pushy at all. We were seated outside by the host immediately who knew a two top was free the second we approached the podium. The food was decent. Nothing to write home about, but it came out really quickly. It's clear that this establishment knows how to turn a table fast, and they keep everything well organized. The outdoor seating is certainly nice on a beautiful day like today, so the atmosphere is excellent in that respect. On to the food. The calamari was delicious, the chowder was good, but the mozzarella sticks were a let down. They had very little flavor, the sauce wasn't great and the sticks themselves needed to be in the frier for longer. When you bit into them the cheese pulled right out in one whole piece. It wasn't very appealing, but we ate it anyway. We try not to waste food unless it's really horrible. It's not a spot that we'll keep on our regular list of go-tos, but we won't actively avoid it either. Worth a visit if you're just looking for a quick bite, because they will have you in and out.

Google
Great location for lunch. I was lucky enough to get a table on the balcony overlooking the marina. Loved the Thai style chicken sandwich on a fresh soft ciabatta. The hoisin aioli is genius. I chose the coleslaw side which was the best I have had in the US, fresh, crisp and creamy.

Yelp
I don't get why the rating is so low, great for your typical seafood resto if you're not trying to break the bank in Nantucket. Ordered an app and 4 entrees for about $160. Everything was delicious and service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped for lunch and was seated on the balcony, which afforded a nice view of the harbor. The service was attentive and the drinks good (including their featured Mudslide). The plates of Turkey Club, Tavern Burger, and Fried Scallop Roll were tasty and right-sized for lunch.

Nba N.

Yelp
We enjoyed the atmosphere, staff was friendly and attentive. Everyone enjoyed their lobster rolls and clam chowder!

Yelp
Came here for a family dinner at 730 on a Wednesday night and immediately got a table. Definitely not as fancy as many of the other restaurants on the island but nice enough to dress up for. Ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, which were large rounds and not super greasy/drenched in fry. The salmon burger was decent- the patty was huge and not greasy/oily at all. There was a bit too much aioli but no big deal, the side of broccoli was surprisingly delicious and a huge portion! However, the fish on the fish and chips was very heavily fried, on all three that were brought out. The fish on the fish wich was not as fried- it was an average fish burger. Otherwise, the staff was very attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Would come again.

Yelp
Overall experience was a solid 3.5, but I'm bumping it up to 4 since my Aperol Spritz was one of the better ones I've had. Plus service was pretty good! My sister and I wanted a casual dinner after treating ourselves during our recent trip, so we ended up dining at The Tavern. There were several seating options, but we went with upstairs (vs outside) since it was a little breezy out. My Spritz ($16) was well balanced and quite refreshing. They tend to be too syrupy sometimes, which is no bueno. But this one was tasty! I appreciate that they have veg-friendly menu options, although I needed something more substantial since I was going out that night. Sooo I went with the Fish and Chips ($24). The serving size was decent and the exterior was crispy, plus the food was hot. Now, I have had better fish and chips, but it was satisfying. As I mentioned before, service was good, and the prices are pretty "affordable" compared to most other options on the island.

Yelp
Came here on before we headed back to the Cape! Steph was great with recommending the Philly cheesesteak! Everything came out hot and fresh. Was flavorful and delicious! And of course had to get a glass of Prosecco and enjoy the view!
google avatar

Bianca D.

Yelp
Great Service, easy environment, delicious food. The bar staff are amazing, shoutout to Spencer!

Yelp
Sat upstairs on the balcony on the 4th of July for lunch-walked right in. Not a lot of people there which scared me. We both ordered the wharf burger and mozzarella sticks which came out way too fast. Service was good but the food was mediocre at best.

Jack S.

Yelp
while this restaurant may look inviting from the outside, I would suggest avoiding it. We went in search of a beer for me and a tea for my wife. Unusual, perhaps, but not exactly an offensive request. We asked the waitress if this was possible, she said no, so we happily made our way elsewhere. However, a member of staff decided to tell the nice waitress "I hope you told them to beat it". For what? The crime of waiting a hot drink on a windy day? Inside, the restaurant was overpriced and frankly looked a bit dirty. I'm pleased we didn't have to eat there - and hope no one does in future!

Yelp
Ordered Fish and chips, burger, lobster roll and steak and cheese. Food was great. Lobster roll was a bit expensive at $42.00! Whole family enjoyed their food. Personally, I preferred cod but the restaurant used halibut for their fish and chips. Excellent table outside the balcony and great for people watching.

Jay M.

Yelp
I picked this place tonight because it was very busy with outdoor seating by the water and the menu seemed good with fair prices for Nantucket. Came to find out this place is only busy because it's right next to ferry. Ordered mozz sticks and clam chowder to start and they came out alarming quick which was the first red flag. Mozzy sticks were cold and tasted freezer burned and the clam chowder was underwhelming. Not the worst I've ever had but lacking any flavor and on the watery side. My girlfriend ordered the clam cake which she said was good and I ordered the steak and cheese sandwich and couldn't get through more than two bites. Sandwich was not fresh and meat had the strangest taste. Stomach still turns when I think about it. Avoid this place at all costs. Spend the money and go somewhere nice.
google avatar

Natalia M.

Yelp
I had my first New England clam chowder here and it was delicious! The rest of the food was ok but I feel like it was overpriced for the amount of food served.

Fancy A.

Yelp
Pork sliders, delicious and fish sandwich really good too! Outdoor and indoor seating is nice.

Alec L.

Yelp
Ordered the Fried Calamari- and after eating a few bites I realized at least 40% of the portion was fried BANANA PEPPERS. Pretty underhanded method to slide in banana peppers disguised as squid... never seen this before in my life. The other food was mediocre at best... but The Tavern gets a fat 1-star rating from me due to sketchy management practices/ethics.

Thetruth D.

Yelp
Nantucket local here.... used to love it, but absolutely bogus management. Refused us seats at the bar because of my fiance's service animal we have papers for and told us to go to the tavern. Went to the tavern and they said they wouldn't seat us which are both in direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Alright location, but not worth going if you live with a disability.

Ann L.

Yelp
We were so pleased with the service food and drinks. The staff was wonderful . The manager was wonderful too. We were sitting in the corner close to closing time and very rude Karens..aka Maureen pulled chairs and dragged them around and making so much noise. There were lots of tables and chairs, but they sat very close to us. They left , the manager came over to ask us about not vaping. People were walking by raping also. The manager and waitress handled it with respect for us and them. So my review is a 10++. The food was excellent. When we stopped earlier in the day , it was very crowded, I don't think their not coming back is no loss for The Tavern!! Keep up the good work we had amazing food and drinks. Thank you for being kind and professional.

Maureen H.

Yelp
We won't be back. They allow vaping on the patio. Manager was extremely rude and said it was our job to ask them to stop. Very unappetizing to have smoke blown from next table. Second time we've had someone vape near us at this place. Food is very average anyway, so no loss.

Yelp
It is a very popular, touristy spot. It is in a central part of town for the boats and car traffic. The wait is never too long. The staff is attentive and friendly. There is inside and outside eating. They are famous for their Mudslide drinks. The food is just OK. I would definitly recommend other restaurants in town if you have the time. But its a good place if you just want to grab something before catching the ferry. Casual attire. Parking is street or in the grocery store parking lot if you can find any.
google avatar

Jess R.

Yelp
The food here was good and service was friendly! We ordered the lobster roll and clam chowder. Didn't take any pics because we were super hungry when we got there. The Gazebo looked fun!
google avatar

Meg K.

Yelp
They're currently only having outdoor seating with a maximum table size of 6 people. It was nice to sit down at a restaurant, nonetheless. We came with a party of 11 so they split us up but did their best to put us next to one another. In terms of COVID protocols, all staff are wearing masks and drinks came in disposable cups. They also didn't hand out physical menus. Can't complain about the food - it came quickly (maybe a little *too* quickly, I don't know how fresh the food was, hence the 4 stars) but I enjoyed my crab cake burger on brioche bread. They also only have their menus online so you can look while you're waiting for a seat and have an even more streamlined experience. Super close to the ferry and not as much as a sticker shock as many of the restaurants on the island. Nothing mind-blowing enough to give it a 5-star experience, though.
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
Definitely average. The lobster roll had shell pieces still in it. The service was basic. I gave 3 stars for view and chill atmosphere. Way to go Nantucket, come to VA and I'll show you way better lobster rolls for half the price.
google avatar

Bibi B.

Yelp
Family really enjoyed our meals here! I really liked their burger - great quality. Good mixed drinks and good food. Also conveniently located right by the ferry. I would give it 5 stars but the waiter spilled two drinks on my family and wasn't apologetic. Accidents happen and we got a replacement right away, but were all a little shocked she didn't try to resolve the situation in a friendly way. Nonetheless, convenient location and good food!

Joan G.

Yelp
We wanted a good place to sit outside and watch the tourists and locals go by. The Tavern was recommended to us. It is a little bit down from where the ferry lands. Erin was our waitress and brought us our drinks. We had looked at the menu before going in. The lobster roll caught both of our eyes. It comes with chips but for a little more money you can get French fries and for a little bit more, some greens to go with it. We both stuck with the chips. I thought the lobster roll was a little pricey at $22.00. After all, we are in Nantucket. Aren't the lobsters just right in the ocean? The sandwich came and it was beautiful. The only way I can describe it is it was on kind of a hotdog bun. The best thing - the lobster just wasn't sitting on the top. It went all the way through the bun. Absolutely outstanding. Would I come back again? Yes, if I'm ever in Nantucket.

Todd T.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice great place to people watch. Fish and chips, calamari and chowder was good. Fish sandwich and steak and cheese sandwich not so great.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
We came here after lunch fell through at another spot. Glad we stopped in! Beautiful outdoor seating on an upper deck. Perfect for people watching and taking in the views! I got the fish and chips. It was good, but not the best I've ever had. Service was excellent and the beers were good. Would certainly stop in again for another lunch sometime!

J L.

Yelp
watch your card! waitress said it did not go through ;but after she was paid, an additional card bill from the restaurant came through as did a fraudulent amazon order. Both fake bills were not paid and caught ;but who needs the hassle ? food is ok and fast
google avatar

Yelp
Pleasant lunch with friends. Good food, great service and wonderful outdoor seat. Although the overall food rating was a simple good, it's the outdoor seating on a perfect day and great service which make me give it a 4 star rating. My fried clams were good...not great. My son's cheeseburger looked amazing but as he said was just ok. My wife's salad was tasty and my friends enjoyed their veggie wrap. Their daughters chicken sandwich with fresh mozzarella again looked amazing but was just ok. Jenny our wonderful waitress was great. Constantly stopping by to make sure we were good. Now, for price the bill was $180 for 6 people. Which was a wow in itself but I'm in Nantucket so I can't complain. My wife's margarita was $15... Ouch! Overall a great experience.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
I would give it a 0 because I tried to come in to the patio and guy was rude and said no dogs. Been to several Nantucket restaurants inside w a dog. Outside patio here and not Fido friendly
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Used to be a good place. Dinner for 2 with tip was $148. Screw 'em. Never again. Charged $14 for a side of damned asparagus and left off the potato's because no substitutes allowed.
google avatar

Belle R.

Yelp
Literally the worst service. The man at the host stand looked us up and down like we were trash. The waitress was nice but didn't check on us once or refill our drinks. Food was not good/ nothing special. We then went to the bar in the "gazebo" where the "bouncer" asked for only One person in our groups ID - the only person of color in our group as well. People there were heard talking trash about the tourist but yet this dump of a restaurant wouldn't be open without tourist. Will not be back
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
Good for what it is -- continually open, wharfside bar and drill that offers expected fare done reasonably well with laid-back service. The clams casino were great as were the mozzarella sticks. The chowder was good but not great (a bit salty). The Cape Cod-wich was pretty good. The fish and chips were very good, though more breaded than baterred, the fried clams were very good. The service was warm and friendly.
google avatar

Josep B.

Yelp
Average place with non surprisingly good food. Service is nice and professional and the location is great. I ordered the Lobster Salad. It comes with a champagne vinaigrette (and cheese, even if I ordered it with no cheese). The salad itself was good. It was fresh and the vinaigrette was enjoyable. The lobster was not that good... It was not fresh and sort of hard. I think the selling point is the location since it's quite convenient. But if what you are looking for is for a restaurant with proper food, I think you can find better places.
google avatar

Kate R.

Yelp
The tavern is truly a Nantucket staple. You must stop by for a mudslide - they really do have the best on island. We came back several times and everyone from the door staff to the bartenders (shoutout to simon) treated us with great service each time. We can't wait for our next visit bACK
google avatar

Madison C.

Yelp
Great bloody Mary's and very fast, polite service. My complaint here is that the "house salad" was literally plain lettuce lightly dressed in oil. I suppose I wouldn't have minded this as much, had it been a side, but for a $30+ entree salad, I would have really appreciated more than just greens and lobster meat. Had I known, I would have ordered something different or asked for the salad to be dressed up with some additional veggies.

Joshua P.

Yelp
Had lunch at the tavern with family (5 in all). Nice atmosphere, waitress was attentive and friendly. I had 6 littlenecks for an app which were excellent. The burger, ordered medium rare, was medium but quite good. Others were fish and chicken sandwiches which were very good. Lobster Mac and cheese also very good. The Caesar salad had too much parmesan cheese but also good. Surprisingly the greens that accompanied the burger and Mac and cheese were really good. Overall a very good experience and lunch.
google avatar

Mollie M.

Yelp
Great food, great service! I had the kale and quinoa salad, my friend got the cape cod sandwich, they were both amazing! We also split a bowl of clam chowder but it was so good, we finished it before we could take a picture. Despite the rating, this place is a gem.
google avatar

Alyson K.

Yelp
[3/5] The tavern is a good place to get basic bar food/ seafood in Nantucket with a great location right downtown, but there are definitely better food options on the island! I went with a large group and the service was good. Our waitress was attentive and brought food and drinks out quickly, considering our large group size. I ordered a Bloody Mary and some chowder which were both great! For my meal, I got the Pan Fried Crab Cake sandwich. This was just OK compared to other crab cakes I've had on the island. The portions were large, but I think there are better seafood options. The atmosphere was casual and kid friendly (lots of kids!). For young adults, the Gazebo is definitely the preferred place to drink at a bar and get a mudslide, but the food here is good if you're hungry for some bar food. The food was good in a pinch and great location, but this is not a 4 or 5 star restaurant, especially compared to the other fine dining options on the island.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
8/12/16 Lunch After a short tour of the island we stopped for a quick bite before leaving the island. The food is average, not exceptional except for the clam chowder which was tasty. Eating outside on a beautiful sunny day was pleasant. The men's room was clean but not so for the ladies room.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
The prices are comparable for the location ( but still way to high). The hostess staff was extremely pleasant. The waitress was nice but completely inattentive after taking our order. Another person brought our meals and collected the plates when gone. Otherwise they just stood there waiting for something to do. The waitress was too busy talking to staff to care about customer. Food came out promptly. Refills were non existent and I wanted vinegar but never got it as the waitress never returned. The fries were undercooked. I had the crab cake sandwich which was very good and fresh. The chicken sandwich was good. Loved the patio seating.

Yelp
09/04/22 - The Tavern....a disappointment! - (I now know why this place was mostly empty). In summary.... My coworker and I were in hurry so we sat at the mostly empty bar, restaurant was mostly empty as well. The un-trained bartender acted like she was doing us a favor by providing service.....(mostly non-service, except for the attitude). We ordered a local beer, it came in a can....the first beer was warm and top of can was dirty so we asked for a glass (that too was warm). Round-2 of beer was a repeat of Round-1, except this time the bartender presented with an "I am doing you a favor" attitude when we asked for cold beer and cold glasses. What "tavern" serves warm beer and warm glasses? - (go back to my lack of training comment). Dinner was no better, I'd give it a 2 out of 5 - (my fancy salad, "The Berg", was flavorless and basically an guacamole mess!....the chef should be embarrassed, or consider calling it an appetizer and serving it with chips and salsa). Upon exiting I found no manager, nor did I see anyone who looked like a manager circulating the restaurant or bar during dinner. The Tavern - once and done for us! Never again!

Rich H.

Yelp
Great place for lunch. My family and I enjoyed everything we ordered. My fish and chips we're excellent.

Carol H.

Yelp
Came here to kill an hour before catching the Ferry back. Had 2 glasses of wine and some mozz sticks with friends (FYI, a bit pricey since it's very conveniently located.. think NYC prices). Once I was in Hyannis, I realized that... I LEFT MY PURSE BEHIND. In a frenzy, I called Tavern and they immediately knew what purse I was talking about, took my number down and said they would call me back when it wasn't as busy later that night. I didn't hear from them that night and thought.. well... I'm never getting my things back. The next morning... when I was back in NYC, HUZZAH, I received a call from Nantucket, MA. Scott called back and said he'd "run across the street and go to the post office" - free of charge!! Two days later, I received a priority mail box with my purse - WITH MY CASH STILL THERE. Scott - you are an amazing human being. Management - please make sure Scott gets the props he deserves (and if it comes with bonus or other lovely perks, that would make me [and I'm sure him] a much happier person).

Yelp
This place is a great spot for a quick tasty meal and great drinks! The mud slide is a Nantucket staple and the food is delicious. Can't wait to go back here when I'm on the island!

Doris C.

Yelp
This place deserves more stars! We came here for brunch! Everything was delicious! I got a Bloody Mary and my BF got a cocktail drink and they were both very good. The oysters and the shrimp cocktails were SO FRESH and the clam casino were full of flavors!!! And the lobster rolls and the clam chowder were all full of deliciousness! I would go there again and again if I could!!

Maya M.

Yelp
If I could give it 0 stars I would. When our party of 10 arrived at The Tavern promptly when it opened we were whisked past the outside patio where no one was seated, through the inside, up the stairs, around the corner to the farthest possible table away from any other patron. Needless to say our party of 10 were all people of color on an overwhelmingly white isalnd.

Aimee S.

Yelp
I've been visiting each time I come back to the island. It's a great spot right on the wharf. We are always seated very quickly and the service never disappoints. The staff is always friendly and super fast with taking our order and delivering! The cocktails are always crafted to perfection and the food is delicious! Billy's Fried Pickles are mouth watering and are the best I've ever had! They also have the best cup of chowder on the island! And if you haven't tried their signature cocktail, 30 out, then you're really missing out! The mudslides are the best and make the perfect dessert on a warm summer day! This place definitely deserves all 5 stars!

James B.

Yelp
I ordered salad and clam chowder, both looked great. The problem is I'd only eaten a third of the salad when my kid needed a brief separation from the table (with 10 other people remaining at the table). I came back 10 mins later to find my food had been cleared and tossed by the waiter. Waiter didn't stop to ask anyone at the table; happened before anyone could see and respond. Waiter claimed they comped us the food which later turned out to be incorrect. So no, I'm not going back here.

Jack G.

Yelp
Flat beer Frozen cod pre breaded fish chips shrimp from china no clue were any fish other then oysters didn't eat frozen fish and and chips poor quality french fries even pre breaded can be good quality if they spend a little more what a disappointing experience don't bother wasting money better food take out at stop &shop!
