The 7 Best Hostels in NYC (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated Nap York's focus on sleep and quiet: located in Midtown near many museums and a few blocks from Central Park, it offers pod-style rooms and bunk beds with individual charging stations, en-suite bathrooms (sharing with a maximum of six people), noise machines, light-blocking dividers, starlit ceilings, and a 24/7 quiet policy in sleeping areas. With shared kitchen facilities, female-only dorms available, and beds from $101 USD, it's a stylish, restful option in the center of Manhattan." - Matthew Kepnes

This was a great place to stay for the night! I loved the atmosphere, the beds and the little amenities. Not sure how long I could stay, as I only stayed for one night, but it was exactly what I needed. Considering the price (versus other hostels), it definitely lived up to the standards. My wife called it a “boujee hostel), given the fans, lights and plugs in each bunk. I would definitely stay here again. Would be incredibly fun to stay here with 3 other friends, too! Easy check-in, codes work well, elevator worked, kitchen and fridge was nice and clean, bed was comfy, room was warm but the fan helped cool down, the bathroom was clean, and the lockers were also roomy and clean.

Location is amazing, service was great and rooms were pretty decent but felt a bit too small even for a hostel. The people who stayed in my room were mostly quiet and clean. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would consider this place again in the future.

Stayed here about a month ago- and it was overall a positive experience. The women's floor was very quiet and cleaned frequently. I had no issues with staff or anyone else that stayed in my room. One item of note is that the black panels on the economy pods (which appear on the online pictures) were not in place due to an issue with fire code. Understandable, but it makes the pods less private. The good news is that you can sacrifice a sheet from your bed (see my photos) to cover up the exposed space. That said, it's a bit inconvenient, and hopefully Nap York will consider providing guests with an extra sheet in the future if the panels won't go back up. Other tips to would be nap yorkers: you will need earplugs and a sleep mask for sure. Nap York provides cheap/disposable ones the lobby, but consider bringing your own. Also consider bringing a washcloth if you need one as only a towel is provided. The check in system still does not provide the front door code (this has been mentioned in other reviews) so you'll need to get buzzed in when you arrive and note it down for later use. Overall, with the prices of NYC hotels being so outrageous, I highly recommend. The location could not be better for tourists.

Booked Nap York business pod for a two week stay as a female solo traveller. Was a bit nervous as I have not booked accomodation like this before but the location was ideal. Price was good too. The business pod is a mixed pod so I had a number of different 'buddies' in the two week period. Unfortunately not all were considerate noise wise but I suppose that comes with the territory. Staff were great. Amenities in the room were great. Good sizes lockers (bring a lock) and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. Room number and outer door number changed a few times but no real issue with that. For my first visit to New York this was great. Location is absolutely perfect.

My stay at Nap York was excellent! The atmosphere was cozy, clean, and welcoming. perfect for relaxing after a long day of travel. The staff really made the experience ,especially Cy, who provided amazing customer service and was very nice to speak to during the night. I definitely recommend Nap York to anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable well run hostel with great people and a positive vibe. I’ll absolutely be coming back!

I've never stayed in a hostel before, because I didn't like the idea of a bunch of bed bunks filled with strangers. Nap York was perfect though. I got a female business pod, which had tall walls, not like a bunk bed. I could easily get ready for the morning in there. I shared a bathroom with one other woman, which worked out well. Some reviews mentioned having to rig up sheets for privacy, but mine came with a black out curtain attached. I was able to buy a padlock for $5.45 and then go to the bathroom and leave my luggage there while I explored the city. I would definitely stay here again! This was a steal at like $180 for 12 hours.

6-bed mixed economy room. Got check-in information card saved to Apple Wallet (maybe) a day before check-in date. I recommend taking a screenshot of the check-in information containing door codes because mine disappeared from my Apple Wallet, and I had to call customer service. Customer service is 24/7 and was quick to help resolve my problem. Walked in with front door code, checked in with employee, scanned a check-in QR, and got a rundown of rules. Had second floor room, 203. Used door code to enter. Lights automatically turn on by motion. There’s a light at the door, shower/toilet, sinks, and bedroom. You can turn off the light by pressing the switch, but it will continue turning on when it detects motion. My bunk was on the bottom closest to the entrance of the bedroom, and it came with a thick blanket, thin blanket, towel, and pillow. I recommend using the thin blanket to make a privacy curtain in addition to the curtain that’s already installed on the bunk. 4/5 for the room because the motion trigger for the bedroom kept getting activated by me when I was inside of my bunk and trying to sleep. Every time I tossed and turned, the motion detector detected that and turned on the bedroom light, making me feel bad for the other nappers. Didn’t think to use the thin blanket to cover that open section of my bunk until it was too late. Coincidentally caught the staff member exchanging linens and asked for a replacement towel because mine had a moldy smell to it after only one shower. Lockers are in the back of the room. Bed has a lamp, electric outlet, two USB-A ports, a small shelf, hook for keys/clothes/hats, and a curtain that only covers half the length of the bed. There is a vending machine selling oral kit ($3.81), shaving kit ($3.81), body kit ($7.07), feminine hygiene products ($5.98), drinks, snacks, and combination locks ($4.35) for your lockers. (Prices current as of 16 NOV 2025.) Great location close to Central Park and Terminal 5 for concerts. Respectful employees.

Many guests say the place is clean and the staff is friendly. The location is excellent — Central Park and Times Square are within walking distance, which makes traveling and visiting famous places easy. Facilities like a shared kitchen/lounge, 24/7 front desk, and free Wi-Fi are available — good value for the price. If you are a solo traveler or staying for only one night, this hostel-style accommodation can be a practical and affordable option.
