Yelp
We had a fantastic ride - the pilot was great. He was obviously very experienced, calm, and highly skilled. I think his name was Jim.
The ground crew were friendly and very good at their jobs- they knew what they were doing and I never felt worried about anything to do with safety. They all communicated together and worked as a team. So impressive! Super professional.
The scenery was incredible- we saw rabbits running around in the vineyards, and also sheep, horses, and geese. It was so quiet we could hear the sheep from like 1200 feet in the air! So peaceful. Our pilot pointed out our reflection as we floated over a pond. It was warm up in the balloon with the burner right above our heads.
The pre and post, however, for the price we paid to have the "Premier Experience," I'm sorry to say I found to be somewhat lacking. The description had promised, for the premium experience, (for both choices, in fact) baked goods from Bouchon Bakery at checkin. What we were presented with was more on the order of grocery store croissants - cold and spongy. Not even as good as Safeway. No way was that from Bouchon, (which I have had and which is unforgettable.) I don't mean to sound like a snob- it would have been okay if the experience had not been pitched as including a special location and premium amenities. There was hot coffee which was nice, since it was about 45 degrees, and we were outside of the hotel meeting point. It was awfully cold, and I wondered why the company couldn't arrange with the hotel to let us be inside their lobby (we were not allowed to go inside), nor were any outdoor heat lamps lit. (Several were on the premises.)
Now I went back to the website and checked this: the address we were directed to and where we were greeted and checked in was different from the meeting point advertised on the website. Indeed, the website mentioned we would be "out of the cool morning air" in someplace called V Marketplace. That is not where we were or what we experienced. Oh well. At least there was a very nice cat sauntering about and greeting folks.
Anyway, after the ride, (which was, as I said, fantastic), we were asked to be seen by the hostess to check on our credit card transaction. We were told "the system is acting up" and asked to go into our credit card account to see if the charge had gone through. When my husband looked at our account, we had been charged. FOUR TIMES. We are a family of four. Our 1200 total was, let me say it again, charged four times. (So that's 4800 y'all.) The customer next to us was charged twice. She was a party of two. See a pattern? Now of course we were assured the error would be fixed. Apologies were made and they were very polite. But still. Pretty outrageous. So I just feel that the crew of hostesses needs a little training in their equipment and provision of amenities. For now, I would recommend potential customers not opt for the "premium" amenities until a better job is being done on that aspect. Such as letting guests go indoors somewhere when it is 6:15 in the cold dark morning. I feel like a sucker for choosing that package.
Again- I really do try and look for the positives in life- there were many! Do I recommend Aloft? Sure. Overall a wonderful ride! But don't opt for extras. ;)
