Narbo Via museum

Very interesting and contemporary museum. It is not big but not expensive and a must see if you are in Narbonne. There is a cloakroom which is handy, and a small shop for goodies. You can ask for a wheelchair at réception if needed. Very welcoming personnel.

As a Canadian I had never seen anything like this. My jaw hung open for a good half hour, until I realized I was gaping. The wall of collected Roman limestone carvings was nothing short of spectacular. And then I realized they were being moved from one side to the other so that you would have a different experience each time you came was incredible. I deeply appreciated the translations in English, and Spanish, it is incredibly thoughtful. I think we read everything there was to read, or I hope we did because the history was remarkable. Considering Canada just celebrated 150 years as a country, seeing things from the first century, and how beautiful they are is a thrill. Very grateful that the various levels of government have invested in preserving this history. This is one of the best museums I have ever been to.

The quality of this museum in a relatively small village is stunning. The number of artifacts from the 1st-4th century is large. The museum itself is on one floor and its easy to get from each exhibit to the next. The videos in the small rooms do a very nice job of making sense of the locations of the artifacts and how they relate to each other. They also sell food here but I did not visit the restaurant.

Really cool museum displaying Roman artworks in a airy and well designed minimalistic building. There are a ton of artifacts and so much to learn since it's in English too and fully worth a visit if you are interested in Roman history of the region.

Amazing. With the musee de la Romanite in Nimes, this is the best museum I know in France about Roman times.

Excellent brand new museum (2020) made from combining two major Roman museum collections originally in Narbonne's old city. They have a collection of beautiful rare frescoes from a villa found nearby, as well as a great set of interactive exhibits on Narbonne's role as the prosperous Roman trade capitol of Gaul--based on artifacts from nearby shipwrecks. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely fascinating, both for content and presentation. Parking is difficult. How do you plan a new museum without a parking lot? But that’s a quibble. This is a Must See if you are into the history of the region or if you are interested in how far new museum design has come.
