I am surprised reading all of the positive reviews for this hotel. It is not a nice hotel. The room was very outdated. The TV was rigged up so that you cannot turn the tv volume very high. I assume this is because the walls are paper thin. You can hear everything on either side (you just can't hear the TV). Hotel management must have been tired of the complaints, so they did this. Either way, there were two DirecTV remotes. One turned the tv on, the other did everything else. We couldn't get the TV to turn off though, so we unplugged it. We were never able to get it to work again. It was a smart TV, but you could not use the Smart aspect of the TV because of the DirecTV rigging to control volume. For such an outdated property, you would think they would take advantage of having cheapo ROKU smart tv's. That would be a plus, but no.
I chose this location because there is a bar and restaurant onsite, and its proximity to the park. But, when we checked in, we were told that they were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays - which were the days we were staying there. So, that was lame. I wanted to stay somewhere that had quick access to food options onsite. Instead, we had to drive miles away from Yosemite to get food and then drive all the way back towards the park.
The room was very outdated and held a hodgepodge of mismatched old cheap furniture. And when I say old, I mean decades and decades old. But NOT antiques. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
The place has no heart. Maybe they once did. But, it is clear that no one in management cares enough to make the furniture match, update the carpeting and fixtures. And generally make the room environment inviting in any way. You have to spend money to make money, ya'll. There were some old brass light fixtures that were cool. Carpet was older than Elvis' in Graceland. Don't think there are as many stains on the carpet at Graceland though.
Back balconies on the rooms are cool with nice view.
No one wears masks there. Although, mostly everyone in town at all shops do not wear masks either. But, when it comes to customer service, now is the time to wear a mask when sitting at the front desk in an enclosed area interacting with guests that come in from all over the country. There is no way to know who is vaccinated or not. I have no way of knowing whether the guy at the front desk was vaccinated. I just know he wasnt wearing a mask. BUT, our rooms could not be cleaned during our stay because of their new COVID policy. Umm. ok, then, if you are following safety protocol, why no mask, sir? The way the place is maintained, I can only assume that management enjoys saving money by not having someone clean every day.
Overall, it is just kind of a janky place. I don't know how else to describe it. They are riding on the fumes of yesterday and have no care or skill (at minimum) to bring the place into today, much less make it a great place to stay in the future.
Oh, water in shower was lukewarm at best. I felt like a chump staying there. I did not feel good about spending money there, or sleeping there on vacation. When asked by friends how our hotel was on vacation I responded that we made a mistake on that part of the trip. I felt embarrassed to stay there it was so cheaply maintained. I'm glad I didn't invite friends to come with us this time. I would have felt badly about bringing them to this property.
None of this means that the place ain't cute. It is. Only the outside though.
I hear the food is good. Too bad I will never know.
