You know... I'm not really big into motor sports, especially NASCAR. I used to follow it a bit more as a kid, especially stuff like Formula 1. Those cars were so cool to me back then. But, yeah, not really my thing anymore.
We found ourselves in Charlotte on a Saturday with not much to do and nothing we really wanted to see. So, we thought we'd check out the HOF anyway. For a casual observer, $25 wasn't too bad honestly.
At first, we thought it was just the 'ring of honor' or whatever it's called, the two semi-circles of cars you can kind of see from the outside. We were like, "uh... that's it?" But, that was BEFORE we saw all the other exhibits that were kind of hidden behind all that. :) Yeah, we're sharp... LOL!
Anyway, once we figured that out, there are actually several floors of exhibit space with a LOT of artifacts and history to look over. We ended up making a solid day of it there, even though no one in our party was a real big fan. It was still pretty cool, and there was a lot to do with the initial admission price.
For instance, there was a basic simulator, a few minutes of a kind of video game race track experience. There was also the pit crew simulator, which was hands-on, and really fast-paced. These were included in the admission price, so, not too shabby!
There are a LOT of cars there on display, including some really old and really new ones. They cover basically the entire run of the sport. There's a 12-minute video that plays every 30 minutes about the history of NASCAR, which was interesting and well made.
It's all very impressive, and that's from someone who's not deep into the sport. If you're a fan, I'm sure you'll dig it even more than we did. If you're not a fan, it's still worth checking out. Just don't give up after walking into the initial space. It keeps going, trust me. ;)
