Came in near closing on a Wednesday night. The place is slightly off the main road. Cash only! The curry was a delight, amongst the top Japanese curries that I’ve had. The service was quick and helpful, just ring the bell at your table when ready to order. My only regret is that I didn’t go with the larger size curry, if you have an average or above average appetite I highly recommend getting the extra portion. Ambience was excellent with a vinyl playing classics quietly in the background. No AC though.

Curry tasted special, however as not a curry fanatic, couldn't taste too big of a difference with the other cheaper currys. For the price, the contents were a bit light.

Simple place, light music & lips smacking food! We ordered Chicken Curry & Special Curry. Both curries were tasty, rightly spiced & just blended smoothly with the rice, also perfect portion size! Coming from India, we have a high standards for all sorts of curries. Nasu Oyaji is simply a remarkable curry place. Loved it!

Interesting curry shop. The ambience is very nice. Their curry are only several options which are good. I ordered chicken curry with hard boiled egg. Only accept cash. The place is quite small.

Review on May 2023. I picked this place after looking at Google map randomly and saw that it's a small quaint retro looking place, so I got interested. The interior brings us back to old times where they have vinyl spinning on the turntable. They have nice retro song selections, as the staff will change vinyl every 10-15 minutes. Nasu Oyaji Curry serves only beef, chicken, vege or mushroom curry rice here, no pork. We ordered their special curry rice and mushroom curry rice. Both are good with sweet, deep and dark Japanese curry, slightly spicier than regular Japanese curry... pretty much like Java style. The curry and rice may be a lot but their meat or veggies are really on the skimpy side... so may seem expensive in that regard. They have English menu (shown in pic) and the staff can speak some English. Overall, I like the atmosphere and the music they played that time is really great to listen to while waiting for our food. We were there at around 1pm on a Friday, so waited for 2 people in front of us, maybe just 5-10 minutes. There are about 13 seats I think... table and counter seats. Ideal for 1-4 pax.

What a quaint and lovely curry shop nestled in the midst of residential houses in Shimokitazawa. The interior brings a retro, vintage, and chillax vibe with handrawn pics adding a personal touch. The music from vinyls played filled the air with a relaxing tone, blending in beautifully with the interior and enhancing the dining experience. The owners are friendly and welcoming of guests, and the curry was amazing. We had the special curry and beef curry and both were deliciously spiced with the right balance of spices, sweetness and savoury tastes. It's not overly sweet like the typical Japanese curry we tend to think of and the flavors blended well with the meat, vegetables and egg in the curry. The honey yogurt was a lovely way to end the meal. Definitely a must visit if you are in the area!

Sooo good, highly recommend for curry in the shimokitazawa area. Vibes were amazing, very cozy homey feeling and nice music from a vinyl player. Staff was very friendly. I recommend the special curry, the veggies and especially the eggplant were a great addition!

If you like great music and tasty curry, then you’ll love this small restaurant. During the weekends, this place is always full of people in a long line waiting to get in. But in the weekday, it’s pretty easy to get in especially if you come around 13:00 or so. You can really taste many of the spices quite distinctly and it makes you feel warm inside. I usually get the chicken curry, but today i decided to order the curry with beef, chicken, and vegetables mixed together. Basically the curry is all the same, the only difference is the toppings, either chicken, beef, vegetables, or all-in. The music here is great and is full of nice records with a variety of genres.

Yelp
I don't like curry, it's usually to spicy. However, Japanese curry seems a little more forgiving. I also like the taste better. This place has segoi japanese curry. Also, they play vinyl records as the dinner soundtrack. Real good vibe and food. Oishiii desu!

Yelp
This was everything I wanted and more. I had been craving Japanese curry for dayssss, so when we got to Shimokitazawa and the smell was strong in the air, I couldn't resist. There are so many options in this neighborhood! Nasu Oyaji stood out to us so we hurried over right after checking into our airbnb. We were greeted by the most friendly dude ever who brought out a sheet of English phrases to point at and let us know there was a wait. No worries. We sat on a bench outside and no more than a minute later he returned with a cold glass of water for each of us. Total wait was quick and we were soon seated at the counter. Wife and I tried a beef curry and a chicken curry, two small beers, and ahhh I savored every single bite. And sip. Curry sauce had familiar homemade vibes with the slightest bit of heat, meat was super tender, and rice the perfect vessel to scoop and sop it all up. Man I really wish we woulda eaten here multiple times.

Yelp
If you know Japanese curry, chances are it holds a cozy place in your heart. We were hungry, had just arrived in Shimokitazawa and knew we wanted to experience some Japanese curry when we stumbled on Nasu Oyaji. My husband and I each tried a beef and a chicken curry-- both were fantastic. The curry sauce they make in house is delicious, not too spicy, but nice hint of heat also. The meal was filling and not too expensive about 900-1100 Yen per person and highly recommend if you're looking for a quick lunch or dinner that hits the spot.

Yelp
Low-key hipster curry shop in kitazawa. We were on quest to find good curry in Tokyo that was not a chain restaurant and boy did we find one wonderful spot. Food: Menu is roughly 1000 yen to 1500 yen range so it's quite bargain in my opinion for fantastic curry. Opted to get the beef curry which came with absolutely tender short rib. Curry was amazing with all blended spices applied with a spice level that was just perfect for those who are spice adverse. Service: Great service as with the culture of Japan. Atmosphere: Trendy vibe that catered to a nostalgic atmosphere. Fantastic use of wood and random assortment of furniture and artwork that catered to family life of the 1990s. Recommendation: if you are in Tokyo definitely come check it out. They also have a back seating that just produces enough light to take a meaningful hipster photography for you to share on your page.

Yelp
Quaint little joint that serves delicious home cooked curry! It's not on the main road so you'll have to walk into an alley of Shimo-Kitazawa but it's so worth it. We got there 15 minutes after opening and the place was already almost full! Mostly locals. The restaurant itself is really cool, cozy, and stocked with a record collection. I got the everything curry (beef, chicken, egg, and vegetables), while my partner had the mushroom curry (only available during weekdays!). One of the best meals I've had in Tokyo! They also have a regular vegetarian curry in addition to the mushroom. (And don't worry, they had an English menu.) Definite recommend this place on your next visit to Shimo-Kitazawa. Tons of vintage shopping to do in the neighbourhood after you're done eating!

Yelp
Great little curry shop on a side street away from the main drag in Shimokita. Other than CoCo Curry, this may be the only curry shop open during the odd couple of hours in between lunch and dinner. This restaurant is definitely laidback, with a 60s vintage-esque interior that perfectly complemented the Beatles playing on the stereo. The server gave us an English menu that stated no vegeterian options. Not a problem for us, but a previous review says there are veggie choices. My travel companion and I had beef curries and we both ended up scraping our plates clean. I don't have too much experience with Japanese style curry, but the sauce had a nice consistency and good seasoning. I would eat here again!

Yelp
Epic Japanese curry in a laid back, hipster-meets-surfer vibe restaurant in Shimokitazawa. After hours of walking around and working up a hunger on a mild winter day, a stick-to-your-bones meal of curry over rice was just what the doctor ordered. Like most restaurants in Tokyo, there isn't much in the way of seating, and if you're above the normal BMI of average humans, you'll be pretty uncomfortable while you eat. If I were an inch taller and 15 pounds heavier, it would have been an issue. Luckily I don't fit that description, so I was left with no other option but to simply enjoy this tasty comfort food staple. There are options for both meat eaters and vegetarians alike, so no mater your dietary preferences, you'll find plenty to nosh on. Washed down with a cold Japanese beer, and it's as satisfying a meal as you'll have while in the neighborhood.

Yelp
We were starving after drinking at the (very highly recommended!) Mother bar down the street, so after a few Yelp searches we found Nasu Oyaji. Though I was not in such a hurry to eat curry in Japan (it's a form of homecooking that I can manage fairly well myself, unlike, say, hand-cut udon), I was wowed by the depth of the roux here, the richness of the meat stock. It almost reminded me of ramen stock + gumbo. Moreover, the vibe of this shop is superb and (dare I say it) very "Shimokita." It was a very charming peek into what modern trendy Japanese shopowners and diners would consider cozy and inviting, playing bluegrass music and decorated with Pixiv-ready tableaus of vintage records and lights.

Yelp
This place was wonderful. We are vegetarians and it can be difficult to find the right places to go. We were so happy to stop in. Great curry, great music and cool setting. Lovely spot!

Yelp
Shimokitazawa gets a lot of hype, and one of the few places I visited in the hood that lived up to it was Nasu Oyaji. The thing about visiting Tokyo is that you walk A LOT. Like, 10 plus miles on your iPhone steps counter kind of a lot, which is good because there's so much to eat. Nasu Oyaji makes one thing, and they make it so so well. That one thing is curry. It's a cute little place with that clean, bright California meets Japan aesthetic that's so popular in Tokyo. There aren't many tables, but when we went in the early afternoon on a weekday we had no trouble grabbing a two top in the back. I've heard sitting at the counter is the way to go, which might require a little waiting, but let me tell you, once you smell the deliciousness that's about to be in your belly you're not going to want to wait. There are veggie friendly options, which is somewhat rare in Tokyo, and the meat curries are also awesome. I don't think I've ever left a plate so clean in my life.
