The Best Road Trip in Italy You’ve Never Heard Of - AFAR

"A regional museum whose collection stretches from the Bronze Age through late antiquity, it illuminates the deep, layered history of the area — including pre-Greek Indigenous Lucanian culture — and offers archaeological context that complements nearby ruins and excavations." - Erica Firpo

Excellent. The VR experience was really good, our children loved it too. Great artefacts and displays. Friendly staff who spoke English - apologies for my poor Italian! Much larger space than anticipated from the outside. Impressive all round. One comment - perhaps the museum should have a gift shop where visitors can buy souvenirs etc.

The National Archaeological Museum of Siritide at Policoro is fantastic and full of artifacts. The Staff were helpful and extremely kind. I suggest visiting but you should allow at least 4 hours. I look forward to returning in November or early 2024 with my wife. Bob from New York.

One of the must-sees in Basilicata for anyone interested in history and archaeology. The exhibition offers an exceptionally rich overview of southern Basilicata through prehistory and antiquity, focusing on the Greek cities of Siris and Heraclea. The museum also has extensive sections on the non-Greek populations of southern Basilicata and displays some of the region’s extraordinary Early Iron Age burials. You may need to visit the museum twice to take in all it has to offer.

I was there in May of 2018 and spent a wonderful time examining the pieces that remain of Magna Grecia. We were the only people in this large, well organized, and clean museum. The curator found us and helped as much as he could as my Italian is poor and his English not much better. I would recommend this museum to anyone near the area. Professional displays that brought another era to life. Thank you to the organization that maintains it.

For 2 Americans in sud dell'Italia this museo was a jewel. Had we known how much stuff and information was present and how helpful the staff would be, we would have reserved more time on our trip for it.

You definitely have to come and visit it. Very interesting. Rich in archaeological finds from Magna Graecia, It's a nice stop between the sea and the hills. Must visit, very low price

The museum has numerous material such as pottery, jewellery and materials from graveyards but it's not very well explained and the rooms are dusty. The archaeological site is really interesting but now you can see that the area is abandoned.
